I found out recently that I have macular degeneration. I’m told I need to wear sun glasses whenever I’m in the sun. I had said to my Dr. I don’t like wearing them and I’m in the garden 6-8 hrs in the garden all summer. His response was “Well that’s probably why you have this”. I have been wearing a hat and usually looking down, planting and pulling weeds. Guess that wasn’t enough. I am 70 yrs. old. I wish somebody had told me this sooner. Females with blue eyes are more at risk. I have been watching your RUclips’s for several years and enjoy every minute…. And still learning. It’s my blood from generations of women that loved to grow flowers and fed their families with huge garden. Thank you and you husband for adding to this joy.
Thanks for sharing, I have blue eyes and almost always wear sunglasses when I am outside. I didn’t know about macular degeneration being caused by too much sun exposure. This is really important information!
No matter how much you dislike them, please wear sunglasses and a wide-brim hat, preserve your sight for as long as possible. Losing your sight is possibly the worst sense to loose
71 with brown eyes but macular degeneration, glaucoma and small cataracts (almost everyone gets cataracts if they live long enough). I never wore sunglasses and still don’t working in the yard but can’t drive after dark now. And during any other time outside, wear sunglasses. But when working outside I always wear a hat with a brim that’s been getting wider over the years!

Cheddar is a wonderful cat. When cats start to spray where they live is mostly because they feel threatened by other cats who that think is coming into their territory. It’s a aggravating protest. Two specific things I loved about this video. 1 that when you are asked a direct question about if you like a product you give your honest feedback and don’t just say it’s great to sell it and make money off the sale. 2 that you guys are considerate enough to do a whole separate channel about the items you sell so that we are not flooded with ads but have a place to get more info and questions answered. Everything that Laura and Aaron do create a better world. I trust them. When I buy felcos will buy from them. Always protect your eyes and skin Laura. It's ok to wear sunglasses to protect your beautiful eyes. Have always wondered why you don't wear them.❤
Glad Cheddar is with Bethany. Spraying is not ok even tho some can work to get to the issues it is great that Bethany took him. He may not be so threatened there. I understand from personal experience...
I look ridiculous while in the garden, but for me (not in front of a camera for the world to watch) it’s function over form. I wear a headband for sweat under a hat with a shade panel to cover the back of my neck and it also has bug mesh that can be pulled over my face if necessary. I’m a real looker! 😂
Sounds awesome! I may have watered plants in the backyard in straight-up pajamas because I am not a morning person. My neighbors can **easily** see into my backyard, but I think if they’re looking that’s on them. I will throw on a real shirt for the front yard tasks, so the front neighbors probably think I just wear the same shirt all the time, lol. At least the yard looks nice!
I know what you mean. I developed.sun sensitivity, and now wear long pants, long sleeves, and a big sunhat. I say, I am that cartoon grandma in her garden. Bandana in my pocket for wiping my face.
Same here, had melanoma 20+ years ago, caught very early, very lucky, yearly check ups since then. Now I wear, big hat, long sleeves, and or protective sleeves, gloves, jeans and muck boots. I’m quite the sight. 😂
I agree with Aaron--Dump down the hill--But shred to a mulch first. It doesn't have to look like a dump site. You can create a safer hillside by filling it in with your free mulch and soon to be horse manure. Love Rick's Golden Container Award--what fun!
I recently started wearing long sleeves from Farmers’ Defence. The best way to describe them is they look like the old long opera gloves without the fingers. They cover your arm from near the shoulder down over the back of your hands. They are spf 50 fabric and so far seem breathable. They protect against the sun and scratches from things like roses and branches. They come in plain or printed fabric. If you’re wearing something with a short sleeve (t-shirt, polo shirt etc) your entire arm is protected. 😊
My sister gifted me a pair! Wear then in prickly or sticky weed situations. Much more protection. Today filled 2 garbage cans full of galium or sticky weed. Irritating to skin! Hate that stuff, right up there with bindweed!
Hope your forest pansy redbud flourishes! We had to relocate a redbud tree when we built our deck. Half of the tree died. Like one whole side of it. But I loved that tree. I worked with it and now 3 years later you would never know that it was a one-sided mess not that long ago. It is a perfectly shaped thriving tree! So happy we kept it in our garden. Aaron cracked me up when he was teasing you, saying "but that tree needs me"!
At the 28:45 mark, I'd like to mention that when I had a pond on Vancouver Island, BC, Canada, the iris were vigorous - so much so that it was very difficult to keep them in check once they established. Some of the roots were as big around as my wrist and were rooted into the rocks that covered the pond liner. I had to use a tree saw in some cases to remove them. I'm happy to see that you've left yours in the pots and hope that alleviates any issues with their roots spreading uncontrollably! Love your videos and even though I am no longer living in a space where I can garden, and my body no longer allows me to do it, I still watch you faithfully and pass along your wisdom to family and friends who still garden. Please know your expertise is valued and your videos are wonderful!

I know you don’t like the brown cut grass in the background of the flower pot competition, but to me, that’s home. I grew up in the middle of 15 acres of a grass field, and every year it turns that color, so it just screams home to me. Perks of living in a small farming town I guess..
I love the Garden Answer Gold Container Award!!! What a fabulous gift! Rick you are soooooooo talented! We’ll all be talking about it long into the future. I hope Bethany enjoys Cheddar and maybe without two other male cats to compete with he will stop spraying ❤ I enjoy your videos and have learned so much over the years ❤❤❤
So glad you removed the Sumacs. They are very invasive here in NW Georgia, found as roadside weed trees. Very few birds in this area are attracted to them. You made the right decision to remove them.
I had to laugh to my self when Aaron said those artichokes looked prehistoric . I had always thought that when I first saw them. I'm glad someone else thought that too. Lol
Good morning! Another great recap! Thank you for answering the Cheddar question. I never thought you helped Cheddar over the Rainbow Bridge, I was thinking that he just passed away! I’m glad he is doing well and living with Bethany!!
I love grilling artichokes. I recommend pre-cooking them in an insta-pot. When you're ready to grill, cut them in half, brush with oil, grill the bowl side down first, then when you turn them over you can pours some butter and garlic into the bowl and down in between the leaves. I hope you like and try this. 🙂
RE : Adopting Cheddar A Shout Out To ... Bethany ... For Responding Beyond The Expectations Of Laura And Aaron. The Garden Answer Store channel is a great idea. Through the years you have made so many "how to" videos of products/tools that you use as well as reviews/comparisons of other products (i.e. "best hose wands") that to have one generalized place to search for information on something you're curious about, would be really helpful. I understand that this would mainly be for products you offer in-store, but I hope that you would also include all videos pertaining to products/tools that you've dealt with and/or use whether you sell them or not. Just a suggestion.
I just had a quick wonderful delivery of some products from your store. You mentioned something about store products so I went to see what was there. Glad you mentioned it. I buy locally what I can but these products I just couldn’t find here! Thank you!! Have really grown to enjoy the recap video!!
Just harvested my garlic. This was my first time growing it. I got three heads, which is perfect for two of us. You inspired me to try this, so thank you for the inspiration to expand my garden. I’ve hung them to dry, and look forward to using it.
If you grew more, you could peel it and whiz it up in the food processor and freeze it in little blobs to use all year. I grew some for the first time this year too. It is drying and curing right now and I will freeze mine this way.
Good morning - thank you for telling us about Cheddar, I know your garden life and personal life overlap a bit too much from time to time. I think it is important for people to understand sometimes moving a pet to a better place is really hard too. I am sure he is getting plenty of love and attention with Bethany.
Good morning 🌞 I think the question about storing the fertilizer where it gets hot may have been referencing spontaneous combustion and fire hazard if near flammable material like the barn.
That recap went fast! Thank you for the Cheddar update; so glad you all came to such a perfect solution that benefitted everyone. You all make up such a good team, and I so appreciate Paul and Bethany being part of the GA family. Just a note about the sumac situation. I subscribe to Robbie and Gary’s channel, and if sumac is anything like mint you may not want to even put it in a container. Her mint has reseeded out of her containers to all over her yard! Have a wonderful week and thank you for such quality content!
I so want to thank you for the update on Cheddar, I was heartbroken when I didn't see him. You know the only reason why he spray is because of other cats. I told my son that I would hop on a plane to come and get him. And yes, I know this is a garden channel. But he like family. And I love seeing him. I learn so much from you. So thank you. PS that hand saw that Aaron was using. can I get one.
When Laura gave the explanation about where Chedddar is - & said she was a bit offended that some folks speculated that he was put to sleep -she was being gracious -I was offended on Laura's behalf -I literally said out loud "They wouldn't do that!!" I know I don't know them personally but I think I've watched long enough to get a general idea of their outlook on some matters -and I thought it was most likely he was re-homed & its nice to know he is with someone close to you- making the change to a new home easier for him ❤I did think maybe there was a possiblity he had some sort of physical condition & then perhaps depending on the outlook it may have been necessary to let him pass - but I figured regardless, they would let everyone know when they were ready.
I have had my Tiger Eye Sumac for about 10 years. When we put in the waterfall going into the pool we continued with the armour stone around the pool area. We have had very little, almost no suckering with that tree behind the stone. If you got some of those big stones you could plant it raised and that would work great and look amazing. I also have a regular Sumac beside the water fall and no problems with it because of the armour stone.
I am so glad you told us about the tiger eye sumac. I got one last fall, after your video i saw the new sprouts. I dug it up and put it in a pot. Lo. Hope it does not escape . Lol
I'm so happy you addressed the Cheddar issue, it really bothered me too that people were assuming, and doubting your motives. I'm sure Cheddar is very happy at Bethany's. Your reaction to Aaron's comment,"if you're happy, then I'm happy", was precious!! Can just see and feel the love you two have for each other. The container award is beautiful and so clever. Such a sweet gift!
Have you thought about trying the Shibumi shade cover over your pond? They are extremely popular on the beaches because of how they are made to handle the wind.
you guys work so well together it’s awesome to watch. OK I’m gonna pack myself in the back here. I was in Lowe’s yesterday and there was this lady who came up to me because I was looking at plants that were on sale and she’s like “well. I think I’m addicted. This has been happening past two weeks. I’ve been buying plants.”I said to her well do you check out Garden Answer? She’s like what is that? I said oh my God you gotta go on RUclips and you gotta check out. Garden answer once you watch one video you’re gonna be hooked , it also has an online store for stuff to buy this is a great family and they show you how to do everything.!! she wrote it down and she went right on it right there in the shop!!! so pat myself on the back. Talk to you guys later.
Orange male cats spray more than females. I love orange cats but hate that they spray. Maybe Bethany will take a pic or video of Cheddar so we can see him. He had such a cool personality.
Hi Laura and Aaron! I think it’s so funny you don’t like the look of the area behind the pots in the Pot Competition video. To me it looks very rustic and reminds me of home in No Cal. I can imagine an old, deteriorating barn with maybe some old farming equipment laying around, perhaps some livestock still roaming! I love that look. Can’t wait to see how the property evolves in the future.
Rick award is fantastic. I too like when are the pots are the same, BUT I really appreciate being able to see how different combinations look and grow too. I'm glad you found a good solution for Cheddar, but I will miss seeing him in your videos. What about Blacklace Elderberry's on that hillside? After you really clean out the soil can you put Espoma soil and or compost in and pant the arbs in the new soil - perhaps the original soil just reverts to that hardpan and the roots struggle too much??
Thank you for letting us know that Cheddar went to live with Bethany. I am so happy he is living his best life.

Yes, love our neighbors to the north !!!!
Ontario is representing today.
Eh.
The Golden Container Award is awesome! You have very clever followers, and they're very thoughtful! Loved the weeks videos. 🤗💕
I love the Golden Container Award from my Canadian neighbour! What a sweet gesture!
RE : Adopting Cheddar
A Shout Out To ... Bethany ... For Responding Beyond The Expectations Of Laura And Aaron.
" Rendering service with a good will as to the Lord and not to man, knowing that whatever good anyone does, this he will receive back from the Lord, whether he is a bondservant or is free. " ~ EPHESIANS 6: 7-8
“If you’re happy I am happy!” Perfect!!!
Good morning Laura and Aaron! Have a wonderful Sunday!I would never assume you got ride of your cat that way. You love animals too much.
Love the recap. Perfect start to my Sunday morning. Have a blessed day everyone.
The Golden Container Award is so clever. Love it!
Another fun GA Highlights Sunday….thank you !
Good morning - thank you for telling us about Cheddar, I know your garden life and personal life overlap a bit too much from time to time. I think it is important for people to understand sometimes moving a pet to a better place is really hard too. I am sure he is getting plenty of love and attention with Bethany.
Glad Cheddar got a new home!
That award is so wonderful. Thank you Rick
Your videos make me happy! You’re a wonderful duo!
Good morning 🌞 I think the question about storing the fertilizer where it gets hot may have been referencing spontaneous combustion and fire hazard if near flammable material like the barn.
We just asked that question so much, and it was never answered. That's why we kept asking that question about cheddar.
I thought Cheddar ran off because Douglas was so dominate ... thanks for the update.
When our orange tabby started spraying everything we took him to the vet and he had a bladder infection. With medication he stopped spraying
Good morning all have a safe and blessed day ❤️
I so want to thank you for the update on Cheddar, I was heartbroken when I didn't see him. You know the only reason why he spray is because of other cats. I told my son that I would hop on a plane to come and get him. And yes, I know this is a garden channel. But he like family. And I love seeing him. I learn so much from you. So thank you. PS that hand saw that Aaron was using. can I get one.
When Laura gave the explanation about where Chedddar is - & said she was a bit offended that some folks speculated that he was put to sleep -she was being gracious -I was offended on Laura's behalf -I literally said out loud "They wouldn't do that!!"
I know I don't know them personally but I think I've watched long enough to get a general idea of their outlook on some matters -and I thought it was most likely he was re-homed & its nice to know he is with someone close to you- making the change to a new home easier for him ❤I did think maybe there was a possiblity he had some sort of physical condition & then perhaps depending on the outlook it may have been necessary to let him pass - but I figured regardless, they would let everyone know when they were ready.
Love the award cutting board. Great gift there!
Thanks for the Recap :)
Great recap. Love the award its a great idea. Such clever ideas coming from listeners.
Looking forward to buying my new auger collection!
Love The Ward Plaque. Looking forward to the videos on how to use your products.
Thank you for all you teach.
❤❤❤❤
I look forward to these recaps every Sunday.
Lol
The award is awesome! I love the creativity and design!
Good morning from Delaware Garden Answer friends.
Goodmorning everyone:) Make it a good day.
I would love a garden tour of Bethany’s garden some day.
Great re-cap and great job on the award Rick!!👏👏👏
Love the award; so clever❣️ and pot #4 is my favorite as well.
I bought a Giraffe brand hose reel that is 100 feet long and I love it!🎉
I'm so happy you addressed the Cheddar issue, it really bothered me too that people were assuming, and doubting your motives. I'm sure Cheddar is very happy at Bethany's. Your reaction to Aaron's comment,"if you're happy, then I'm happy", was precious!! Can just see and feel the love you two have for each other. The container award is beautiful and so clever. Such a sweet gift!
Good morning everyone!
Have you thought about trying the Shibumi shade cover over your pond? They are extremely popular on the beaches because of how they are made to handle the wind.
Thanks for addressing where Cheddars is. I was wondering because Russell was always around.
A Dremel with a pointed stone end works very well to sharpen hedge trimmers. Good Winter work.
you guys work so well together it’s awesome to watch.
Sumacs burn crazy, they definitely have some sort of flammable sap in them! Even fresh cut they go up great. So satisfying :)
Good morning all happy Sunday morning to all of you guys and I enjoy your channel and you all amazing supporter
I thought the dried field in the background with the colorful pots in front was absolutely beautiful!
