Hi mate, cheers for the informative videos! I just got Wildpeaks in 275/70r17 on D wheels like yours but with -19 offset. They scrub hard on the front, both the front and back of the tyre, so they're sitting in the tyre shop until I resolve the clearance issue. I'm chucking a 2" lift on it shortly, and will do some tapping with a hammer. I still have the stock front bumper too. Wish me luck!
Hey mate-19 is way too much offset for these things. +10 even +20 is ideal for larger diameter tyres. There’s not a lot of room clearance wise under them
@@HappyGoTravel I'm actually only guessing they're -19. They might be a 0, that's the only other low offset size they come in. I didn't buy the rims, it came with them on so I'm poking a guess at their offset based on the available offsets for these wheels... But they're mad dished. If I still run into issues then I guess I'll have to drop to a more positive offset. Cheers for the advice man!
@@HappyGoTravel Yo! I ended up buying 0 offset D wheels, and used a heat gun to melt and bend the plastic of the inner guards to create clearance. Tyre shop did an alignment for me to sit the wheels a touch further forward, and now I have mint clearance. Just the tiniest occasional "chirp" of rub from the tyre at absolute full lock, otherwise she's mint! Truck looks rad on the 32s
Hey mate, Love your videos, great information here. Quick question, I have a 2016 GX. I’m recently getting into 4x4 and got the fortuner recently so still new to this. Ive got a 2 inch EFS suspension lift done. I am thinking of upgrading my tyre size. What do you think is the best option without causing scraping etc. Will 32s sit fine or do I need to do some work to get it to fit, such as 1 inch body lift or adjustable upper control arms. Or is there anything else you suggest? Also, with a 2inch suspension lift, am I able to install 1 inch body lift with no issues or is that illegal in NSW. Thanks mate, would love a reply.
What’s the biggest size tyre you could fit without extensive modifications? such as body copping etc. Obviously body lift is usually required but other then that. Appreciate any feedback.. cheers.
Im planning on doing 285/70/17 KO2s mate. Since its undersize you think i can get away with it with minimal scrub? Im running a 17x9 wheel with a -10 offset atm on 265/65/17 hybrid ATs Also was it worth fitting 33s? Or are the run of the mill 265/70/17s still better? Thanks mate great rig! Cheers!
Just go with 265/70r17 with minimal lift. Tough Dog offers coil springs with 40mm of lift. If you want something lower, OME has springs with 30mm of lift. No point in running 285/70r17 because that will just mess up your speedometer hence, slower acceleration and increase in fuel consumption. You can also go with King Springs. Their springs will also give you 40mm of lift and they are progressive unlike the Tough Dog. At this rate, there would also be less spendings. You won't have to change your UCA and your panhard rod. You'll just need transmission spacers if you were to go with a 40mm lift.
I am thinking 2" outback armour lift with Fuel 8.5 wide wheels, 265/70/r17. They are plus 7 offset. How do you think that will go? Alternatively plus 12 offset roh. What do you think best? Thanks in advance
That combination will be fine. at most you’ll need to remove the front mudflaps. If I was doing it again I’d body lift it first before cutting everything for the 33’s
Thank you Caleb, great info on all the mods. Myself and a friend wanted to fit 33's on our Fortuner's as well. Considering our options now. :( What are your thoughts on 17 x 8 with a +14 or +20 offset? Thanks
Richard Milton I would use +14 I would think +20 will work as well though. Another option to consider is 275/70r17 or 275/65/18 you can get away without cutting with the right offset
@@HappyGoTravel Thanks for the reply, just wondering, by wheel offset, are you referring to how forwards or back the wheel sits or the rims offset meaning how far in or out it wheel sits? As I don't want replace the 18" rims I'm using
With 32’s and good wheel alignment you should only need to remove the front mud flaps. Just keep offset in mind, I’d only go +10 max. 0 is just a bit too much
What happens if you start getting rust on the body panels/guards...warranty won't cover it, and most Fortuners will still be under warranty I suspect. That's my main fear with cars under warranty, the dealer/manufacturer will use any excuse to get out of fulfilling their obligations and its well within their rights unless the rust is in the tailgate and you've only "adjusted" around the wheel wells. Is this "fear" overstated? Am I over reacting?
I’d be surprised if Toyota warranted any rust issue at all. Modified or not. With it though If you paint everything you touch and clean your car properly often I’d doubt you’d have any rust issues. I would say you’re worried about nothing but that’s just my thoughts.
Warranty wise most dealers will point the blame on modifications though, so that’s definitely something to keep in mind. In saying that I have had warranty work on things like water pump etc. yeah m sure if I had a driveline issue it would be a different story. Also I’ve had 33’s for 100,000 km without any dramas as well.
