    Excellent video! I'm an electrical engineer from Brazil and I work at a supplier of HVDC substations. We have a HVDC line here that is 2300 km long! In contrast we also have back to back systems that convert to HVDC and transmit at a distance of probably around 10 meters or less haha, just to convert it back on a different frequency. This only shows the several uses we have for HVDC and how amazing this technology is.

      I understand the basics of the HVDC transmission system. But I am unable to understand one problem of the transmission line being built by the Chinese government in Pakistan that the towers are getting black with conductors on the vertical and horizontal side and when asked about this from the Chinese they said that Due to the deposition of charge, the dust particles accumulate on the tower. While I am not satisfied with this answer of the Chinese engineers, because according to my knowledge, apart from the Chinese technology, the transmission lines of other countries (Canada and America, etc.) are not black from this location. Please help me in this matter.

    @Gaurav,I have one question: as you mentioned, a direct connection between two AC systems with the same frequency may be impossible. How does the power plant team perform power synchronization?

    • @GauravJ

    It is possible to connect a 50 Hz system to a 60 Hz system indirectly. Use a motor-generator pair.

    In your video, you said high voltage transmission lines cannot be interconnected, but in Singapore, we have three generation stations with step-up to 400kV, which are interlinked at the main 400kV transmission line. How it possible!

    Let consider , if L-G fault occurred in HVDC line then how does distance (21) protection is enabled because in AC systems Impedance based protection is present.

    Why do i always hear that DC travels less well than AC ?

  • @GeraltOfRivia69

    In the inversion stage of HVDC, it just inverts the DC, and doesn't convert it to proper sinwave, or doea it?

    • @martf1061
      @martf1061 5 месяцев назад

      When AC is turned into DC, it's never "real " DC.
      It's more like chopped pieces of sin wave.
      It's the same principle that telecommunication systems use in wireless transmission, but the other way around.
      The digital signal is transformed into analog then retransformed into digital..

  • @Gazr965
    @Gazr965 5 месяцев назад +1

    The rectifiers to turn ac to dc and inverters to turn dc back to ac must be huge/ robust.
    Gaz UK

  • @martf1061
    @martf1061 5 месяцев назад

    Back in the beginning of electricity, nothing used DC power .. Now, everything runs on DC.
    Even motors are now powered with DC.. ( AC rectified/chopped into pieces/pulsated ) ..
    REAL/NATURAL DC power, is only possible with chemical reaction bateries.

    Its not a good comparison..
    There is not 4 wires more on AC, than on the DC.
    There is only one wire more.
