Hi Nigel!! 👋👩🦳️👋 I'm so glad to see the ficus recovering! I like the idea of you letting the canopy grow back in, I think it will look better with a curved top rather than the flat top that it looks like it has now. I love the root growth, and Neytiri looks perfect standing there!!
That ficus is gorgeous with that thick branch rising out of the center. I'm glad you chose to keep it and let the sides catch up. That will be exciting to see!
You reminded me of an old English saying: "The best fertilizer is the footprint of the master." I always took it to mean that the gardener or farmer that spends a lot of time just checking on his field usually gets the best crop. Neglect is the number one killer of houseplants. That would include just walking through on a schedule and dumping water on every plant without checking to see whether they actually need it. Each plant is a separate and different individual, even two cuttings from the same mother plant, and each one needs to be examined separately to see what it needs today. Many days, what it needs most is to be left alone.
History lesson for those like me who used to not know what is the fusion ficus. This monster is actually, from what I understand a tree that seemingly broke in two and then was rooted on top of its own trunk. In a sense, its a ficus on another ficus and stands the greatest chance of becoming a strangling fig with a living host!
Twist and pull bonsai? Good idea for those small dead balsa type branches. Sometimes a tree looks crazy after a good pruning, but, in the end it fills out just fine and you never know the difference. Nice areal roots on the Ficus.
I always really loved this one Nigel! I left my big ginseng ficus with my parents and I think they just about killed it so i might need to start again if I don't get anything coming in soon
Nigel I want to send you some seeds man as you are my actual bonsai teacher. I would love to have some contact of yours. Thanks for your services anyways. Good luck with everything

Mad scientist level hair lets you know youll learn all you need from this man.
Best part about that ficus is the root base, very radial and flowing, really gives you a sense of scale!
