I have the aluminum version with veff serrations sheathed on my vest whenever I do armed work. It would be extremely effective for the emergency uses it is intended for. I don't open boxes with it. If I wanted one for edc and fidgeting, I wouldn't mind the orange one, but I agree that the price doesn't go with the materials. I didn't mind 199 for the original with D2. I thought the innovation justified the price. I would not recommend pocket carry. If you do, don't carry anything else in that pocket. Thjs is coming from a guy who was cut twice reaching past the knife for my keys. Not sure I would "wave" it from my pocket because, unlike a regular knife, the blade is still in your pocket if you deploy it that way. You might cut your pocket...or something worse.
I just got the Desert Sand version in D2 and love it for defense. I don't recommend pocket carrying because it will deploy in your pocket if you don't pull it out perfectly vertical. The kydex sheath and belt clip is around $35 online.
Totally agree with you on price. I drooled over this knife when I first got into knives, the d2 model but now that I'm more educated I totally don't think it's worth it. Which sucks, the mechanics is cool.

i love my Provoke compact. Is basically everything great about the provoke but in deceptively smaller form factor and I love it! plus stone wash blade is just perfect!
plus is just fun to play with, the fidget factor is definitely there. i drive my wife crazy with the clanking sound it makes trying to open it and releasing it just before the snap 🤣

I got a knock off from the swap meet for $25. But it is identical down to the cut-outs and lock. Aluminum body, 7cr17 steel, chisel ground. Apparently the workers broke in at night and did a run on their own and then sold it.
Just got this knife today...I don't regret my purchase, however I do agree that both models could be cheaper...the price point on these knives does not reflect the materials used! Cool factor is 10 out of 10 though haha.

This isn’t an auto knife or a switch blade. It’s just got a joint that takes over the opening, just like almost any other folding knife. Once it gets passed a certain point, the knife opens on its own, but until that point you are manually opening it.
Got the orange one to check out for $99. Debated returning but had a lot of fun deploying and scaring non-knife folk so I kept it and loaned to a reviewer for evisceration. Paid for with GECs so no big deal.

Eh, no. The thing is all about the ability to be opened from reverse grip. If you prefer Triad on your karambit just buy the cold steel Tiger claw, it's made from much better materials and the blade is way more utilitarian.

Crkt really made a d2 knife for $200. I'm not happy with that price for the material, they should have a higher grade steel for that price. At least something that doesn't make you feel cheated. I love everything about the knife except for the steel at its price point, huge turn off beyond words
All the versions are way over priced. For the same price as the aluminum and D2 version you could get a Spyderco manix 2 in maxamet steel. And in terms of the one you reviewed there are so many knives with much better materials at the same price point. The only reason CRKT sells them for the prices they do is the "cool factor" of how it opens. And frankly if you want a self defence knife and are dead set on a karambit just buy a fox. Again they're materials are better, they have the wave or bramp, the standard models are way cheaper and they come with by far the best factory edge I have ever seen. I'm talking an N690co blade with a close to mirror polished edge that can cut a held hair. And you can get that for anywhere from like $120ish to $180ish. I thought about getting one of those but the price points are a huge turnoff.

Luckily i haven’t cut myself and this one to me seems more practical in terms of accidental deployments. I didn’t know you could deploy it straight from the pocket. Me personally, i would enjoy letting an adversary watch me take it out and deploy it just like you did so i don’t have to actually use it on someone 🤣
You should not get the clown version get the all black version put your index finger through the whole pull it out of its holster you can hit somebody in the chest with it or use the glass break it break a persons hand if they got you by the throat or you can deploy the blade with your thumb

Karambits aren't meant to slice, they are meant to rip and tear. They are intended to grab into flesh and control the limb said flesh is attached to. The design is the result of trying to emulate the claw of a tiger. And in that regard, it does the job exceptionally well. As someone who has both encountered and used a karambit in its intended role, I can vouch that with proper training, there isn't a better compact bladed weapon for hurting human beings in a way they will forever remember. The huge scar across my left arm is proof of that. And wow, huge overuse of the word tactical.... it's basically an industry buzzword that doesn't actually mean anything. Most folks in the Military/LEO community don't actually use that word, except for ironically. IDK if that's your intention (doesn't sound like it is) but yeah... you're not doing yourself any favors throwing that word around so much.

These reviews are usually good but you can't compare something you know nothing about to something you have expertise in. This is one of the best folding karambits on the market. I wouldn't necessarily spend the 100 for the grivery so I happily spent the 200 on the aluminum because I couldn't get a hold of the custom.

Not at all true, have you even seen literally any of their other knives? Theres a reason their such a popular brand, sure the provoke in particular is a little bit less practical, but alot of their other knives have excellent material and design for affordable price

i think people is just really wrong believing Karambits are for EDC. Huge no. The only use and intention of a karambit is for self defense. Karambits aren’t really for slicing, they are meant to rip and tear. Yeah, you can use a Karambit as an EDC, but it’s not their purpose and you can’t really make a review focusing on that. If you want an EDC, there are many good knives out there. But this Karambit is just for self defense and for that purpose, this one right here is an amazing knive and fulfills it’s purpose exceptionally well.

Yeah, it's much safer to open it from the hand with your thumb, or simply flick it open by spinning it forward with the ring.

My Provoke has the VEFF serrations and is chisel ground, I carry in the Kydex Belt Sheath with a TEK Lok. I love it, We are all different I guess.

I got the yellow “Zap” version and dyed the handle a dark greenish blue.

End of the day is fighting scenario it’s a grapplers knife. It is also a good blue collar work knife. That is what they have been for eons.

Karambits aren’t really for slicing, they are meant to rip and tear. Yeah, you can use a Karambit as an EDC, but it’s not their purpose and you can’t really make a review focusing on that. If you want an EDC, there are many good knives out there. But this Karambit is just for self defense and for that purpose, this one right here is an amazing knive and fulfills it’s purpose exceptionally well.
