- This year's winter steam gala at the GCR would only see the one visiting engine, in the form of Southern Railways 'Q class' 30541, courtesy of the Bluebell Railway. Regardless of the lack of visiting engines, the GCR homefleet was all in attendance, making it nine locos in steam across the gala weekend. As usual the video features all workings including, freights, minerals, double headers and the famous TPO postal trains ! Once again the GCR have put on another excellent show. This video features eight of the nine locos on show ! I
I hope you enjoy the video.

I have been to the Cinema , and been charged pounds to watch entertainment not up to this standard ! This is so professional that I'm speechless . Brilliant . Thankyou.
Love the way smoke is under the bridges, totally covers the loco, its like a big dragon emerging from a cave, nice captures
Thanks Colin, a great description.
What a wonderful video. It plucked from the depths of my memory so many sights and sounds long forgotten. Sights and sounds which were much part and parcel of my youth - I spent 6 years commuting to school on just such trains. Nostalgia in extremis. Thank you very much.

Nice quality video. Thanks for posting. Cheers, Bruno
Wonderful stuff. The night time shots is the icing on the cake
Thanks very much.
Incredible sharp pictures and such good colour rendition given the time of the year Liam ... very good. I thought the closing night shots of sparks from the chimney, firebox glow accompanied with the whistle doplar were a real bonus. Reminded me of the old movie ... "Night of the Demon". (showing my age now, lol ) Treat to watch.
Thanks for the detailed comment Rog, The doplar whistle at the end topped off a good two days.
A wonderful event in the depth of Winter Liam...very enjoyable....Bob
Glad you enjoyed it Bob, all the best.
Once this lockdown is over and the GCR announced they’ll be doing galas again, I’m going to one..
Superb as ever and the night shots rounded it off so well. Thanks
Cheers Ray, the nights shots turned out well.
Beautifully shot and composed, as always.
Thanks Bob, all the best.
20JUN23 Absolutely top class videoing and film making, superb coverage of an excellent GCR Gala, I have really enjoyed this, first time I have seen better than me and my brother used to do, sorry about the lack of modesty, thank you so much from an old man who is too sick to get out and about any more , Pete
Peter, that's very kind of you to say so. I'm glad you enjoyed the video. We could do with some weather like this right now as its currently too dry to run steam in some parts of the country.
So there WAS a loco under all that smoke ❗❗ ( second shot) wonderful images as ever Liam 🚂🚂
There was indeed Sue, thanks as always.
Cracking mail train and night shots. Thanks for sharing the video.
Stunning video, really enjoyed it all, but esp the night footage :-) Many thanks
Thanks Derek, you're most welcome.
Great video. I've been looking forward to seeing this ever since your video of last year's event. The night-time shots especially were great. I was standing in the yard watching 78018's departure, and at first we couldn't see anything for the steam, but as it cleared the carriage windows shining through looked super atmospheric. The Hall put on a good show for the TPO too, particularly that extended whistle blast as it approached the signal box!
Excellently produced video encapsulating the great era of Steam Locomotion. Thank you.
Thank you very much Roger.
Great video mate, some nice locos running there
Superb video - highly evocative...
a truly atmospheric video, thank you for your artistry, this one's a keeper!
As ever Liam, a fine selection of well filmed shots. Really enjoyed the gala despite the cold but the conditions on Friday morning were superb for decent exhausts and the sunshine on both days was a welcome bonus. Enjoyed your position for the TPO with wonderful Ollie, good view of the bag pick up
Thanks Austin, Yes, Friday mornings conditions were nice and thankfully the sun did save the day.
great video a pleasure to watch.
Absolutely awesome! The Royal Mail 'bag and get bagged' from 24:20 on was fantastic! I would love to be able to view it in slow motion. The filming in darkness completed a truly terrific work of art. I fully appreciate your success.
Absolutely outstanding! Everything!

fab video mate!🚅
Them people who live next to that railway I'm so jealous
What an ending.......!
Just like any summer Saturday on the old G.C back in the 1960s
Winter? Southern & GW locos?
Good point. However, some Southern locos worked the line as far as Nottingham Victoria during BR days, and Witherslack Hall is appropriate to the line.
It certainly didn't feel like summer, but I get your drift !
WHEN WAS THIS GALA, I CAN NOT KEEP UP AS I HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO GO OUT FOR QUITE A WHILE AND STILL CAN OT GO OUT TO EVENTS FOR AT LEAST A YEAR TILL I CAN WALK AGAIN, AFTER LOSING MY LEFT FOOT LOWER LEG DUE TO POLIO AND RHEUMATIC FEVER AT AGE 8. IS THERE A COMPLETE LIST OF ALL PAST UK STEAM GALAS WITH HOME AND VISITING LOCOS IN USE PLUS WORKING TIMETABLE LOCO ROSTERS PLEASE DOES ANYONE KNOW AND WHERE TO ACCESS IT PLEASE ?? .
This event was on the 27 - 29 of January !

would it be ok if i used some of this for a music video?
Hi Brandon, unfortunately I don't give out my footage for free. Thanks for asking.
wait one bit said msv 2016 & all the rest says msv 2017
That was an error in the editing process. I was still adjusting the change of year. No doubt i will have the same issue in the new year again ! Thanks for your comments.
Ah technical difficulties. I see Liam
How cold was it?
Pretty cold on Friday, especially the morning. Saturday was a touch windy.
Were you there throughout the weekend?
