- Tara talks about one of the great challenges in completing a PhD: procrastination. What are its causes, how can it be managed and what can you - YES YOU - do to clean up your context today to ensure that procrastination is minimized?
Take away points for myself
Set a clear working time- with a start and end
Dont think about finishing the chapter- say I am writing 1 page. Live in the NOW
Reward yourself when you are done
Clean up your space
Create a routine
Shut off notifications so you choose when you want to log onto social media, it shouldn't have the power to call you
Don't place your phone near you when you work
Differentiate between leisure and work
Take one step at a time - you should aim for momentum
Even if you have fears, do the thing anyways
Worrying is a waste of time
"Feel the fear... and do it anyway!" Just wow! Thanks Tara! You're magical.
I experienced every sensation during this vlog, Prof. Tara. I cracked laughing watching you impersonating people who make excuses. I pondered upon the many life distractions the you'd mentioned, and I also had misty eyes from your last words. THANK YOU!
Thanks so much Theblue Sword. I can't manage without you! Txxx
Thanks Prof. Tara. I always find your advice and guidance useful and beneficial for my PhD journey. You're awesome. Your vlog saves many PhD students and early career researchers. Thank you.
I'm not even doing a PhD, but this channel has some very good general life advice. Thanks.

Love from India :)
I've just discovered your Vlogs and after watching a few now need to pause to get on with my Master's readings for tonight. What a wonderful resource. I dare say I'll watch them all eventually, thank you.
I've just listened to the first 6 minutes and I know I need to watch this video every single day. My new commandments are here. Thanks a lot for this!
Words can hardly describe my utter relief on having found this channel. I am set to start a teaching assistantship alongside a PHD in the UK within the next couple of months, and i foresee myself returning to this video frequently. Thank you ever so much for taking the time to disseminate your wisdom.

Same here! I'm just soaking it all up..
"Feel the fear and do it anyway." Oh my! What a statement! I am only now starting to watch Prof Tara's vlogs and have been so challenged by her straightforward approach that carries so much life and academic wisdom with it. Thank you for these vlogs. As a student starting her PhD work in fall 2020, I will make it a point of listening to her to stay grounded and focused. Thank you, Professor Tara.
Dr. you are just brilliant, thank you so much
You indeed inspire me to pursue my PhD at Flinders University! BTW, thank you David for requesting this topic.
Tara, you're a wonderful human being.
I wish my Uni had someone like her
Prof Tara, I think you are also a motivational speaker.
I giggled so hard at your impersonation of Brooke, I choked on my cup of tea! Love you Tara. Sally x
This helped me get over my procrastination. Thank you Tara.
I could relate to every single word. Thank you so much for making these vlogs!
Me too. I can apply every single word of this to doing my Master's. It's applicable to so many areas outside of the Ph.D.
@@thomasburns5195 Agreed. Thinking about sending this Vlog to a friend of mine who is stalling on writing job applications.
Magnificent! Thank you Prof. Tara!

Awesome guidance!
I did not realise that Ian Banks' novel had been made into a miniseries! Am now downloading the series for a reward on my next study break. Great advice. Great delivery. Thank you.
Jacob - Flinders postgraduate medical student
+Jacob Ross Mate - thank you so much for the message! I am the biggest fan of Iain Banks. I have all the audio books and they accompany me at the gym most mornings! But Crow Road - really great. The entire cast is amazing. But PCap is mythic. Grabs the audience. Wow. Let me know how it goes mate and what you think. If I'm wrong - you tell me!!!! Keep in touch :) Txxx
+Office of Graduate Research Flinders University - Crow Road. Awesome. Just finished the 5 part tv series. Not dated at all. Great story and great TV adaptation. And Peter Capaldi is the man! Thanks for the recommendation.
+Jacob Ross Mate I was going to post today and ask if you found it and what you thought! I was absolutely gripped to be honest with you. The first time I saw it - I did the full binge 101 and saw the lot. Spoiler alert. Bike coming out of the water final episode. Absolutely destroyed me. And yep, you certainly see some of that affective space that PCap brings to Dr Who in Crow Road. Whenever he is in the scene - viewers are not really looking anywhere else ... So glad you enjoyed it! We'll keep talking Iain Banks. So glad I've found an Iain Banks mate!!!!
am I procrastinating right now?
Thank you so much 💞
Feel the fear, and do it anyway!
ouch...thanks so much for this :)
yes I am
I love you a lot. :) thanks.
I'm the victim!!!
You are the best :) ;) Txxx
