+Cameron McPhee I was actually hoping for something more...all he did was use a preset (with no effects or anything added to it) I would like to see the settings on the compressions and eqing on the master track
I know that this is late, but these comments are equivalent to watching a master painter and deciding that all you need to do is to get a specific brush or a specific brand of paint. When an artist is getting the most out of a tool, s/he makes it look easy as if it's the tool doing the work. It's the same whether the tool is digital or physical, but people seem to have more of a gee-wiz response to digital because it's less clear as to how the tool is an extension of the person.
It's Synthwave for gods sake, it's supposed to sound accurately like it was made in the 1980's, what is the point in crafting a sound when you have the synths they used in the 80's readily available? no one complains about guitarists using a set sound, it's about the music you make
In response to the comments about presets...as someone who lived and worked during this awesome time in the 80s, I can tell you that the majority of work that went out the door was based on using presets. The industry wanted stuff done at speed and presets were the answer to that problem. It was why they were designed in the first place. We wanted them. Remember, this was back when it took a week to make a track that I can now produce in a half an hour on an iPad. Presets were literally the industry standard.
I feel you on the preset stance. I will scour for great presets and am totally satisfied with making minor tweaks and some people are in love with sounddesign. I feel like there is no right or wrong way as long as the finished product is great. I'm learning a little about sound design but 99% of the sounds on my songs are presets.
Agree 100%. I'm new to SoftSynths and I have no shame in admitting that I rely on presets. Sound design isn't my forte. I'd rather let better qualified people do that and I can invest more time into composition 😅👌 Have you heard of Roboticrealm? His channel has been invaluable to me. Loads of free sound banks for freeware Synths
This is beautiful, brotha. Thank you so much!!! I couldn't figure out how TimeCop made this magic happen. And you're such an easy-to-follow teacher. Thank you again! :)
PRESETS?! TIMECOP EXPOSED! I BUILT EVERY CHIP IN MY COMPUTER AND CODED MY OWN DAW BECAUSE I'M A SERIOUS PRODUCER. I GROW MY OWN WHEAT TO MAKE FLOUR. I LAY MY OWN EGGS
Well he's going for sounds that have been done before. Some producers like to make their own signature sounds (like Skrillex). It is very hard to make good sounds that are original, lots of tweaking for hours at a time.
Pretty good, but I generate my own electricity. Gotta have the purest power source to power my own Tesla coil powered analog synth. How else can I sound authentic and vintage? My computer is a relay supercomputer, no emulation shit only true out of the box sound engineering. I also don’t use a metronome, my body is like a clock. Only amateurs use lock to grid and metronomes. For reverb I live in a aeroplane hangar.
love this tutorial guys! lekkere sounds ;D.. first with the reverb on the main synth lead im like wtf that's so much too much, but it sounds dope in the melody :D cool! also love this dudes honesty in what he is doing, clear about why he's doing what and how, and not pretending to know things he doesn't :) keeping it simple and making good sounds, thats what's important!
The whole 80's pop era was based on presets. So if you want it to sound generic, you're gonna use either the actual synths (hardware) or emulators. You could for the sake of it buy a Roland SH-101 and make something unique, but if it looses its 80's touch then what's the point in even using it in the first place?
The reason the DX7 lived on in infamy is literally this. No one could be bothered to program FM synths at the time that's why songs like Take My Breath Away have a straight DX7 preset for the bass line.
***** true. But still it can make the low end particularly messy. I'd recommend abbey Road style reverb cutting the highs and lows from the reverb and using a noise gate on reverb so the busier parts don't get messy. (not sure he didn't do them on this one can't remember, just general advice)
but reverb tastes so good.. one of my non-efficient ways that makes me happy is to isolate the reverb sound on its own track, listen to it solo'd, do some major EQ cuts based on that, then put it back in the mix and do final touches of EQ. Rinse and repeat, then rinse and repeat some more. That's how I do it sometimes lol
I mean I don't disagree but on real instruments, you don't necessarily have just the one preset. The input sound might be dictated by the specific instrument you're using, but there are always at least a few ways that you can personalize a sound or tweaking it to make it new and/or right for the track
@@JayJay-ki4mi Well it's pretty limiting to have to rely on all different synths just because you can't make the sounds on your own. Anyone could search through a plugin to find something that sounds like synthwave, you don't need a tutorial for that.
it would be much much more interesting to hear how you come up with the MUSIC, not the production. finding out what presets someone uses is really, not very helpful.
@@xisotopex for sure, thats true. i always appreciate videos like this cause you can see at least what notes he plays over the bassline, and get a pretty good analysis of whats going on generally

@Brent: Scale highlighter, Flam, Claw Machine, snap to event. note grouping, riff machine... loads of stuff. You're the person that said a DAW was crappy. I own both and won't bad-mouth either of them.
Keeps apologising for what he's not got at... the irony is that it was his music that got me into synthwave
Of all the tutorials I have watched about basslines for synthwave, this guys nails it.
He is the master off the synth wave bass line !

absolutely i was there....the dx7 which was used on dozens of hit records was almost always used for its presets as it was horrific to program
Opened up my ears to a new Genre of music, loving the calmer styles so thank you so much! Definitely try this Genre in FL

I can only find 2 videos of him teaching. Where are all the other videos

look up at his website u got to pay i think for full tutorial
There are no previous Parts on RUclips!
Because you have to purchase them on their website. Still would be a great buy though.
I bought your TAL-U-NO LX presets, Do the presets work in the V3.2.4 version?
They work for me
This is sick!!!!
This was a great watch. Thanks for posting.
Smart way of producing!
Where did you get the "Brash" preset from?
+
Nice keys. How could I make the same sound with a Jupiter 80???
love it
WHERE I CAN FOUND THE "BRASH" PRESETS ???????
How do you get the boxy notes in the piano roll?
awesome.
wait, you're timecop 1983?
Why doesn't it get muddy with all those notes playing with so much reverb????
Мля, охрененно!
very cool stuff on fl now under ableton live9
+DJ PB what do you mean?
did anyone ever find the brash preset?
he sounds like videogamedunkey, also i am dutch too :)
Where is pt 2?
On the torrent.)
Or for a fee.😄
*Comes to learn how to create a specific sound as title would lead me to believe*

Thanks anyway. Hope it helps someone

A Polysix preset and a Portastudio.

Might wanna turn lower the decay on the reverb...
Put the pussy on the chainwax!!
Its just to fill everything in
NOICE!!!!!!
I don't have the Brash preset. Where do you get it?
Neither do I
Yea, I can't find it either.

found something hope this helps www.audiobombs.com/items/700/korg-polysix-presets
but we need the preset brash from LUsh- 101
I'm an 80's baby 😁😁😁😁
TIMECOPPPP :D

Anyone think he sounds like Martin Garrix?
Thank you for this.
I bet FL Studio in 2018 looks all the same
have to buy all the presets he used, it becomes close to 800 bucks :(
fun fact> synthwave is now EDM
Creating the bass? hahahahahaha

More like the base
it's spelled bass. dumbass.

shitload of reverb... must be nightmarish to do the final mix

Really, long reverbs make the mix easily messy.

softsynth-wave

I don't think a synthwave producer who doesn't know his way around a synth should be making paid courses.
He knows his way around making good music, though.
Steenkolen Engels cringe...
I don't know why anyone uses FL Studio , It just seem's so crappy. Try out Ableton and you will never go back.
FL Studio's midi editing is so much deeper. Use Ableton Live for Live work. The clues are in the names.
