    The new summaries will remain, but I also find that because they hold so much within them, I do skim over some stories that really should be looked at in more depth. So I'm going to be introducing more 'in-depth' news videos that will hopefully also act as discussion points, they'll be unscripted and it's just an opportunity to give my thoughts based on some of the bigger JRPG news stories of the month. Hope you enjoy this different take on JRPG news!

      @Llortnerof 11 месяцев назад +1

      Frankly, i don't think there is any way of fixing this that doesn't involve changing copyright and IP laws. Just consider how many of those games were created by companies that simply no longer exist, with rights not being traceable in any meaningful manner. In some cases emulation may well be the only way to actually do it. There's also a study commissioned by the EU that showed that software piracy has negligible or even negative losses for companies (i.e. they actually make more money).
      Personally i don't think copyright is even a good idea in the first place. It mainly protects publishers and does far more harm than good.

    • @LeoSiegfried
      @LeoSiegfried 11 месяцев назад

      @@Llortnerof My idea would be when Subjecting the games to A ratings board they need to also supply a copy of the game to the rating board to archive for preservation and if ip isnt used for so long it becomes opensource

    • @Llortnerof
      @Llortnerof 11 месяцев назад +1

      @@LeoSiegfried I don't think the ratings boards are the right place for that, and the latter is technically already the case... the problem is usually that the code is just straight up not available anymore.

    Bamco in general is really, really bad at making older titles available outside of 80s arcade games, but that finally seems like it's starting to change. We got Vesperia Definitive Edition, Symphonia moved over to modern platforms, Last Recode and the upcoming Baten Kaitos remasters. I think part of this is that we need to keep supporting their remastered games on modern platforms, and keep pushing for Dot Hack on social media. I don't think it's a lost cause at all.
    And as for SAO, I don't think it needs to be competition! Both are published by the same company, have Kite and Black Rose or Haseo appear as cameos in an SAO game or a mobile title! It can be "Hey, if you like *this* series about a fictional MMO, try *that* one, too!

    With the 20th anniversary of Infection being almost two years ago now, I think we're way past due! I still remember borrowing Infection and Mutation from my older brother's friend way back in 2003 and I became absolutely obsessed. It was an escape for me as a teen when escape was nothing short of life-saving for me. Unfortunately I couldn't get Outbreak when it came out and over time I grew distant from the series, but I never forgot about it! Currently replaying it actually.

    .hack reminds me of Digimon. It's pretty niche, but the fans are really devoted. I know my friend who otherwise spend his days off work reading manga and playing Kenshi or Football Manager then suddenly playing the new Digimon game because he just love the series so much. He was similarly happy when I sent him the .hack game on Steam. I'm not really familiar with the games outside of Kite and Haseo being cool, and I think I watched half of the prequel anime on Animax, but people really liked this series.
    We really need better game archival, availability, and title accessibility. It's insane that pirates are the only real access point for these old games.

    The remaster for IMOQ would be one I'd very exciting for but totally unexpected, nobody really talks about dot hack. I was a massive fan for dot hack, got all of the novel books and the games, including the IMOQ on PS2, all four of them. It took me my entire childhood to find and buy all 4 parts of Dot Hack IMOQ in gameshops (Because I didn't have internet and online shopping wasn't really a thing back then, also living in the UK doesn't help.) Still, best treasure hunt ever.
    Also I agree with your point on SAO, awful that it is, it presented an interesting idea but they were simply weren't the first ones to do it, and it was dogshit.

    .hack back around the time of Mutation's release is what drew me into anime and videogames and computers. It is the most influential piece of media to me. I remember seeing the opening theme to Liminality part 2 on file sharing networks and loving it and wanting to look more into it and since then it's been games like .hack, Xeno, Trails, Ys, and Atelier that are the bulk of my games I play.
    I think though that for the original quadrology the best been at the moment would be a ps2 classics release on ps4/5 since that is emulation but I do think they should update gameplay as a remake eventually though if that is done I would say the original should be kept with it to show where it came from.
    It won't happen though, so it's all a dream.

    I absolutely love the .hack series. I have all 4 of the IMOQ games still at my place, purchased them in my teens as they released. These are certainly not the best games especially from gameplay perspective. But the whole cross-media story is quite good but you need to invest a lot of time into it to enjoy the complete story.
    I think one of the main reasons they remastered the G.U. trilogy first was because it was never released in Europe, only Asia and NA and it is not as easy to play american PS2 games on an european console and TV. So the Remaster was the first real chance for players in europe to enjoy the G.U. games.
    And while I also really like SAO, unfortunately the SAO video games are just plain bad games imo. I rly enoyed Hollow Fragment and spend hundreds of hours in there, but all games following just did not get me hooked.

    I only ever heard of .hack through the Crossover title ProjectXZone. I thought the characters were pretty cool from that game and they even brought in Haseo in the sequel. That I still haven't finished. I'm on it, but it may take a while. I am pretty sure my friend would love it if they remade the OG games. Or just brought them back in some capacity. It just sucks that so many great games from the olden days kind of have to be played through other means, because you can not buy them legally from the creator anymore. It sucks and I wish companies would do more to preserve older titles. If they don't want people to turn to emulation, then they need to let us buy the games from them instead. But hey, some of the stuff is getting done these days and we only need to show them it will print money. Maybe then we can get what we want from bamco. Like older Tales of titles. I so want to play Destiny, Eternia and Rebirth but Bamco never really gave us these games even though many of us want to play them. I will pay them cash money if they port the older 2D Tales of titles to modern platforms. Even if it's just the PC, take my money Bamco, just take it!

    If we want a remake/remaster of .hack IMOQ we need to prove to Bandai Namco it's worth the investment. Buy the Baten Kaitos Remasters so they see their niche RPG remasters can sell well. and Buy CC2's new original IP Fuga Melodies of Steel to show that CC2's original games can sell well. The problem with CC2's games in general is that their licensed games sell millions while their original IP games sell barely over 100,000. .hack is in between these two being a pretty well known original IP so the G.U. remaster sold about 500,000 last I heard which is pretty good for a remaster from a series that lots it's popularity.
    CC2 usually says they're pretty happy with the sales of their original games, but I think after the poor sales of Solatorobo and Asura's Wrath over a decade ago they basically were unable to pitch their original IP to publishers anymore. I'm glad they are self publishing their original games now, but I definitely would like to see them do better. Fuga is an amazing game so check it out.

    At this point, the way things are standing, .Hack// has not received any new games, anime, manga or anything besides merchandise for their 20th anniversary. This almost feels like this poor game series is getting benched at all possible angles just for something like SAO to get all the spotlight. The problem is that the last mainline series game from .Hack// was Link, on the psp and after that was Last Recode which is a remaster of the 3 G.U. games with a bonus 4th volume. I love Last Recode and even consider it to be my top 3 RPGs I've ever played. But ever since then, IMOQ has been requested immensely from fans and when the 20th anniversary would’ve came along, I would’ve assumed that there would be some news regarding a series revivial or a new game to continue the .Hack// lore. The only thing that I can really hope for is that enough fan demand can come for Bandai to shift their attention towards this series in hopes for a remaster or remake of the original IMOQ games, another .Hack// game to remaster or a whole new .Hack// game. In this day and age, most popular games are being either remastered or remade, it just feels like a matter of time and demand for IMOQ to eventually come to modern consoles as the game has aged in gameplay as well as how to find a legitimate way to get all 4 without having to spend an arm and leg to play them which in themselves can be improved upon greatly. I would feel really bad if this is where the game series ended as the lore and story is unique to everything that was out back then and even now. I'm willing to give time because I don’t want people to give up on the potential of this series.

    I would like to see a remaster/remake of .hack, I watch my dad playing it when i was a kid, I love the world design and character. I did try the recode remaster but didn't complete it as i got bored playing it. My 2 main problem of it is the game are just too easy, even on the hard difficult and I can get OP and OL so quickly. The other is the arena, i feel like they just copy and paste in first 3 game (I stop on 3rd game). They are nothing exciting.

    I've got the compete quadrilogy, but my ps2 is dying sadly (it's been with me for nearly 2 decades I can't fault it's hard work), so I'll either need to get a new console or rely on running it via an emulator. It's doable, but it's outside the amount of work people who aren't invested would consider worth it. I recommend playing .hack to a lot of people, but I always tell them to emulate as a rule.

XD also been playing .Hack//Infection before I play .Hack//Roots. :) Bros been letting my borrow his PS2 Slim and he got me a mem card so I'm happy I never got to finish the games as a kid. "32" now. So hoping to get to finish all 4-5 games. :) ^^ Loving the first one so far. Trying to remember how everything works. It's all dejavu because I'm used to games with auto save lmao. So trying to get used to the old consoles again. :) Currently don't have a PC otherwise I'd play this game on PCsx2. Lol. :P Btw sorry if I didn't read the game title my vision is bad. XD

    Is the relationship between SAO and .hack really that antagonistic? I would've thought that an anime series with that premise would naturally end up bringing more attention and interest to video games featuring a similar setting. People watching the anime and then looking for more similar experiences. I would've guessed they'd be more mutually beneficial for each other.

    • @maryford3676
      @maryford3676 Год назад +1

      Not really. It's just hard not to be salty because Bandai is known for being tightfisted on remasters. Just look at Tales.
      The issue here is that .hack and SAO are a kind of a generation apart. Most old folks like me know .hack from fansubs of the anime, and SAO from its official anime release in the West. SAO has benefitted from the exposure it legally recieves on Sony's platforms from the getgo.
      SAO is getting resources because it's still an ongoing multimedia franchise with a currently paying audience. The spinoffs still sell, and those blurays still sell in the west despite the prices rivalling JP releases. It only makes sense to fund a tie-in if the games do decent runs.
      In order to get a remaster for .hack, you would most likely need strong momentum leading into a franchise revival or Bandai funding a cheap port just to have it and call it a day. The first one is difficult considering the pains Digimon had to go through while the second one is undesirable.

    • @TheKisekiNut
      @TheKisekiNut  Год назад +1

      It's more that Bandai Namco have inherent trust in SAO that they don't have in .Hack. If they had limited resources and had to choose between a new SAO game or .Hack game, they're pretty much always going with SAO since it's proven itself for many years.

    When speaking of the multimedia set of the original games, he forgot one: the evil corporation behind the games IN the Games Storyline is CCcorp... the company that made the games IRL is CyberConnect2... C, FRICKIN, C... they're the villains of their own games, and i loved that.
    But with all these ps2 era games being remade lately, i sincerly hope we get either a Full Remake, Final Fantasy Zodiac Age style, or a completely new game... sadly, its in the Hands BandaiNamco, so... still, it would definitely sell...
    Honestly though, the best option would be a New Anime(or manga) series... if THAT takes off, which it likely will, That would be proof of Popularity.
    Honestly. S.A.O. Sucks, they keep making money off of what is essentially a knockoff OF .hack, But less interesting, because instead of Kite/Kaito and Tsukasa, interesting characters, you have Captain Emo and his merry Men Kirito... which is sad, because a NON-ANIME TIE-IN S.A.O. Rpg WOULD be interesting... but that wont happen either...

  • @pite9

    I have similar views on pirating. If the games aren't made available new, then I don't feel bad about it. Frankly it's their fault for not making the product available. The console industry is plagued by a lack of backwards compatibility, which makes remastering a necessity, but hopefully this is changing.
    I played these games on my hacked PS2 a few years ago, which is the best way to play PS2 games. They weren't particularly good games, but they had a very unique vibe and interesting enough story. Very short games, around 20 hours each. I recommend the main anime series .hack//sign over the games though. It takes place before the games chronologically and covers the perspective of several characters, so it's a better intro to the world. Just be prepared for a lot of talking and not much fighting, which is actually a very realistic portrayal of MMORPG addicts.

    I hate to put it like this, but I actually want a new game that wraps everything up. Obviously I want more .hack but if it's fate is to get something every decade or longer, I'd rather them go all out with one final game, make it as good as they can, so I can experience the end of the franchise I love so dearly in my lifetime.

      they sort of did with //link literally going thru all the history of the franchise but it got locked on the PSP and only recently has a 100% full english fantranslation. Still suffers from a lot of the same problems of previous games

    • @kabang35
      @kabang35 2 месяца назад +1

      @@WillTheGreatest I understand it was advertised as that but they even had a teaser for the movie and adjacently to that Versus since they were bundled. If Link was it and bundled it up in a neat bow then that would've been fine. But they kept releasing things teasing more and more. What I would like is a definitive end. With no teasing and the majority, doesn't need to be all, questions solved.
      As much as it would sort of be in bad taste, doing another .hack//Link style story telling but with a create a character we can make and choose a class for the msq would personally be my ideal send off scenario. We, the player, get to save "The World" in it's send off.

    To be honest, I'm against the idea of at least remastering the infection, mutation...etc. games. I can't imagine just polishing them up will satisfy anyone, except when it comes to the pricetag. Just thinking about the "3 screens for one skill" mentality makes me curl up again. But I love to see a remake at some point combining the 4, although first...hell has to freeze up for that to happen.

    I think we'll get it eventually but maybe not right away. However, if they did do this I'd be insanely happy as I always wanted to experience these games as one of my best friends has talked the games up so much and he actually owns the PS2 originals. however, I'm leaning very hard into going through the emulation route just to play them.
