Great video! What certifications would you recommend when getting into cloud security?
It depends if you have experience with one of the 3 top cloud service providers. Suppose you're just starting and want to break into cloud and security in general. In that case, I recommend going for the Certificate of Cloud Security Knowledge (CCSK) from the Cloud Security Alliance. With security, you want to have a foundation of security knowledge, so I recommend CompTIA's Security+ and Network+. Once you have the basic knowledge, go for (ISC)2's Certified Cloud Security Professional training/certification. Only go for vendor-specific certifications like AWS Certified Security Specialty if the company you are interested in applying to uses AWS as their CSP or you are already employed at a company that uses AWS. You will want to expand that knowledge of AWS Security. I did a video on AWS Security (ruclips.net/video/eaTnRAy3KlQ/видео.html), so check that out in the video section of the channel. Cheers!
Awesome Video!!!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Good Video Does cloud security engineer need kubernetes and terraform
Thanks for watching the video. Nowadays as k8s and automation is becoming mainstream, I recommend learning k8s and terraform to stay competitive in the job market.
Thanx For the video
My pleasure
Well done
Thank you!
Is a computer science degree nice to have or required? I’ve heard AppSec or DevSecOps require a CompSci background.
Having a computer science degree can be helpful for a career in AppSec or DevSecOps, but it is not necessarily required. While a computer science degree can provide a strong foundation in programming and computer systems, there are many other ways to gain the skills and knowledge needed for these roles. For example, you could gain experience through internships, self-study, or by working on personal projects. It's ultimately up to you to decide if obtaining a computer science degree is the right choice for you based on your goals and interests. Check out my other video on this topic 4 Simple Steps to Launch Your Cybersecurity Engineer Career in 2023
( ruclips.net/video/7HUQ9iWM1Lg/видео.html ) and the other one on the Top 5 Programming Languages ( ruclips.net/video/6QRelpv5nhk/видео.html ). One thing to note, having a degree in CompSci or other related fields can bump your salary as compared to someone without a degree. If you want to pursue a degree and don't have the time or lots of money to invest, you can look into Western Governors University ( www.wgu.edu/ ). You can work through their degree program at your own pace and it won't break the bank. I'm in no way affiliated with them, but I have seen a growing acceptance within the Cybersecurity industry.
Hi secq, I want to get into the path of cloud security, I have knowledge of
cybersecurity, hacking and programming with python, I have never worked
in IT, my plan is to start with aws partitioner, and then continue with
solution arch and then sec, do you think I could get into some work? My
doubt, is if I have to do some SOC path (blue team) or directly I go for
cloud, and the last doubt is if I need to do comptia sec+ (I have the
knowledge from other courses, but I can't afford the price of the
certification for the moment) or with aws partitioner is it ok? Thank
you very much for your time.
Here's my advice to help you transition into cloud security:
1. Start with AWS Certified Solutions Architect - Associate: This certification will give you a solid foundation in AWS services, which is essential for cloud security roles.
2. Next, pursue AWS Certified Security - Specialty: This will build on your knowledge and focus specifically on securing AWS environments.
3. Consider SOC Experience (Blue Team): While not required, working in a Security Operations Center (SOC) can provide valuable hands-on experience in threat detection and incident response.
4. CompTIA Security+: Since you already have knowledge from other courses, you can skip this certification for now and focus on AWS certifications.
To save money, look for free online resources and study guides. Joining study groups or forums can also help you find support and study materials.
Hey quê, are you Vietnamese by any chance? I’m in cybersecurity and cloud engineer Bootcamp right now and thanks for all this tips
I'm not. Feel free to connect with me on LinkedIn for more cybersecurity tips and news. I hope to continue to post new videos soon! Thanks for watching my videos :) www.linkedin.com/in/cloudsecque/
