- (Aradhane - 2025 - Mulbagal)Indian Music owes everything to Purandara Dasa.
Over 4,75,000 compositions in his lifetime. Over 5000 Ragas ? Or maybe more
Leave alone exploration of multiple compositions and Ragas, we might not even touch the stats set my Purandara Dasa in our lifetime😎☀️
Above all, the musical and lyrical treasure he has given to the world is something you should have never missed .
If you have, I highly recommend you all to listen and understand some of his gems.
They can be understood by any layman. On the contrary, some of his compositions challenge the intellect of the greatest minds of the world. If you have not heard of his compositions, you have missed something for sure.
Drupad which is believed to be the origin of Hindustani music also takes root from Purandara.
Carnatic music is not Carnatic music without Purandara. Pillari Geetegalu - 'Lambodara Lakumikara' to start with , every household in South India would have heard Purandara . Every Carnatic musician starts with Purandara.Use of 'Mayamalavagowla' was popularised by Purandara for easy learning of beginners.
Usually the first notes sung or played by a Carnatic musician is in this Raga. It's seen by researchers now that singing Mayamalavagowla is far less energy consuming than Sama Gana (Kharaharapriya).
The credit goes to Purandara for the whole syllabus formation for a beginner Carnatic musician.Purandara also talks about how an artist should perform through his composition - 'Tala Beku Takka Mela Beku' , about having a cultured voice, a good artistic face too :)
The Carnatic music trinity have paid tribute to Purandara.Purandara Dasara Aradhane(Tribute to Purandara Dasa) is devotional followed by us musicians for such a reason.
With the blessings of our Guru @vid_rkp Vid RK Padmanabha sir, feeling really grateful to have paid tribute to Purandara Dasaru🙏C
Composition sung here - Innu Daya Barade - Kalyana Vasanta - Khanda ChapuChapu tala and Suladi Sapta Tala are also contributions of Purandara 🙏
