  • This researcher describes her incubation experiment to determine if mixotrophic responses are beneficial to phytoplankton when the availability of Iron is limited in their environment. A chemical (DFB) is added to reduce the iron in the seawater sample which is stored in the cubitainers (square plastic containers stored inside the large box with the light-filtering black screen covering). The screen covering simulates the light penetration for the depth at which these samples were taken using the CTD rosette. (Learn more about Mixotrophs Research and the CTD rosette found in the Research Vessel Playlist.)
