Mottled Seahare Mating Season

I stumbled across some #mottledseahares mating in the marsh. These gastropods do not have shells. They are also hermaphrodites (both male and female) and often form mating chains. I observed three (3) pairs; 2 pairs together and a third pair a few feet away. Ain't nature grand!!!😎

Holey Sock Drifter Buoy (2)

The researchers are launching a Holey Sock Drifter Buoy off the stern of the R/V Sally Ride. Once deployed, the ship will follow the drifter buoy's GPS signal as it drifts along in the upwelling current. Tracking the buoy allows the scientists to continue collecting seawater samples throughout the duration of the upwelling cycle. (See additional Holey Sock Drifter Buoy videos in this sequence.)...
