One thing not widely known about seahorses. Their shape enables them to swim close to prey without disturbing the water, this makes then stealthy hunters.
Had no idea they could fit anything up their straw mouths and had no idea how they ate...now I know, and what's more, apparently they have a 99% hunting success rate
Omg!!!!!! Someone has seahorses in the hobby!!!!!!! Their my favorite it’s my dream to own a pair but I don’t have The knowledge and experience and I would be too devastated if I made a mistake.... omg these sea ponies are incredible I would seriously cry if I got to see one in person there so majestic and beautiful animals
One thing cool about sea horses, is that since they're very slow swimmers, they have to make sure that their prey don't escape. Therefore they sucked their prey in so fast that they didn't even realise that their eaten till its too late. I think I watched that in a documentary here in youtube somewhere.
I keep seeing stuff like this and can’t help but wonder if Pygmy seahorses can’t eat guppy fry. That would be such an epic setup and eliminate the constant need for baby brines
It's suction. Their mouths seal tightly and become a vacuum. When they unhinge their mouths, the water surrounding the mouth is instantly sucked into the snout, pulling the target prey into it in an instant. The clicking sound is made by the sudden inflow of water. But it's more than just a byproduct of eating. Seahorses make both "clicking" and "growling" sounds and both sounds appear to be used to communicate with one another like a dog's bark, a bird's tweeting or human speech. Seahorses click more and more loudly during courtship, like birds singing more during their breeding seasons. Seahorses are such wonders of the natural world.
They are literally one of the most savage animals underwater, once i have watched a video of a turtle literally pulling the head out of fish with its mouth... they dont play 😂😂
@@bonesawarm6987 ok no its not cruel. The guppies are cute but I'm not upset because of the adorable sea horses. Wow did not know seahorses eat fish i always thought they eat small things like brine shrimp because i always thought they had small mouth apparently not.
having no experience with seahorses, do you have a mic on or in the tank? Did you add the sounds when they attack or can you hear that outside of the tank?
Feeding fresh water fish to salt water fish - one that needs.... basically none fresh water fish to thrive... yeah, THAT's gonna keep them healthy. Are you guys even being remotely serious????
TheOpelkoenjas obviously not for every meal the best thing for any animal is a variety of food. An occasional guppy is way healthier than just frozen brine shrimp. Fresh vs saltwater fish doesn't matter I feed my freshwater rays saltwater silversides all the time.
seahorses are very hard to feed, guppyies can live in salt water and are small and cheap. They fill a very hard to find role which is feeding seahorses in a home aquarium. They probably have a whole tank just for guppies that is brackish water for seahorse food since they breed so well.
no they aren't. guppies come from river mouths where the water constantly switches between fresh and salt. ghost shrimp are brackish and won't live their full life span or be able to breed in fresh water.
Sturmtiger230 historian I cracked up at this. I really did. But someone might actually go buy a seahorse and shove it in freshwater because of this comment. They’d have to be incredibly stupid but stillZ
alealejo78 Yeah feeding something live to your fish is cruelty. What do you think would happen in the wild? A bass would instantly suck and munch a fish when it catches it. You call that cruelty?
One thing not widely known about seahorses. Their shape enables them to swim close to prey without disturbing the water, this makes then stealthy hunters.
so they creep on you and unalive you so fast you shadow is left behind
I think the most surprising part is the fact that it makes audible enough noise to hear outside the tank when they suck the fish up. Amazing
Wow! Had no idea Seahorses are such awesome hunters.
Katherine Venes ...they shouldn't BE hunting fw fish esp. a beautiful guppy & platy!
@@sherrieteller4779 aren't those guppies freshwater? And the platies too

I love the little SNICK seahorses make when they eat
When I was a kid in the late 60s, my father bred seahorses. It was an incredible experience that I'll never forget!
what kind of sea horse?
Omg that's so crazy! They're like magicians lmao

Seahorses, while not as typical in most home aquaria, are actually quite common in the home aquarium trade, in general.
I ♥️ them too‼️
Poor shrimp got ganged on lol
But what I find about seahorses amazing as they are more effecient than what I think.

That snapping noise you hear...
Is that sound their mouths coming
Together and making that snapping sound or are you guys adding the SFx after?
Richie Weir /AuroraNorthImagery all natural sound from their mouths.

Turtle or seahorse? This video is about seahorses. Wondering how turtles are relevant...
Mystery you ate my guppy!
Idk why, but I have fallen in love with this channel!!! +1 sub!
Such beautiful magical animals
Does his predation method suck in the prey?

Yep the speed makes powerful suction that the prey can't escape.
@@CowTurtle I heard that they are fast enough to create a vacuum environment and then suck in it.

Thought sea-horses were like whales only eating plankton etc what a surprising find
what kind of seahorse are they?
Damn they are quick!
them sea horses are gorgeous
They eat guppies? I thought they only eat amphipods and copepods
Would be nice to see a lot more live planting in that tank mimicking their natural habitat

apparently sea horses stuck their food into their mouths when they eat.
How are those guppies surviving in the salt water
Jason Nester if you acclimate them slowly they will survive normally. We just threw these ones in even still they survive for a while.
Cow Turtle ahh cool man
I would love a sea horse they r so cute
how did the guppy not die instantly
Killer Kenny Any fish will survive a few minutes in saltwater. Most livebeares like guppies can survive for life in saltwater.
How are fresh water fish in a salt water tank?
Fresh water fish can adapt to salt water for a while before they die
Anthony atilano damn, thanks man
Also guppies are technically a brackish species anyway.
Is this a salt water tank???
How are the guppies alive in this one???
@Ashton Lovell To be more precise, they can live in brackish water. They can maybe tolerate salt for a few hours (never tried)
What species of seahorses are they?
Atlantic seahorse, Hippocampus erectus
is this a fresh water sea horse?
Nice job. Noobaquarist here
Fastest eater I've ever seen woaahh
wtf i tink this seahorse is most fast hunter in this world dammmmm
A lot of auronplays eating... Amazing...
Why do I feel like sea horses have a big pouch all the time because they can't digest even though they're actually having babies
Probably because they have no stomach and have to feed constantly to stay alive.
what is that? are you pro in editing? good video hehe
yeah, but it looked decent, like it wasnt suffocating. That is really interesting
Guppies can survive just fine in saltwater if acclimated right.
they dont need to be acclimated.Guppies, and other livebearers, can survive in fresh, brakish and in the sea
Fascinating creatures. They have no 'stomach' so must eat almost constantly in order to stay alive.
Wow very cool really

Anything that can be eaten by a seahorse will be eaten. By a seahorse.

Kevin Beas That's the sound my phone picked up it was loud enough to hear through the glass.

huh didnt know they could eat things that big

how the fuck did u get guppies with salt water fish
simple guppies have evolved to live in a variety of saltines cause they live in river mouths where the water constantly changes from fresh to salt.
