- Installed the Invidia R400 catback exhaust onto my 17wrx. Overall I am very satisfied with the end result as far as sound and looks go. Stay tuned, more to come.

I was just telling my wife I wanted a deeper sound but not too much louder. This seems perfect! Thanks for the video!
It sounds wayyy better on the STI
Didn't your momma ever teach you to use Jack stands lol #SafetyFirstBro, Nice Vid Tho
Earl Somerville I put one on the left side. And moved the jack to the right. But you're right I should have used the second one 👍
Just ordered mine last night! So pumped! I kept flopping between the Q300 and R400, but decided on the R400. My senior neighbours are going to love me😂
How’s the r400 going so far mate? Any drones at all? Recommended?
@shenray337 I love it. Idk what people mean by drone tho cause I have yet to experience it. And I've taken it to Toronto which is a little over 6 hours away and my gf or passengers didn't complain at all. Although there's time I wish I went with the N1. But highly recommend
It’s not too loud
By far, one of the best videos I've seen yet... Simple, to the point, quality sound (except for the bit of wind in the launch clips, but hey...), and nice little cinematic pieces in between. Props, bro! It sounds good!!
Benjamin Chara thank you, it means a lot! 🙌
Not trying to steal any thunder here but I just posted a video of this myself only on an STi instead, I'd love some feedback
And I agree this was very nice especially the night launch :D
First good video I've found for this exhaust.. thanks for the upload, great clips! Sounds nice.
RwYeAsNt thank you!
i just got a 19 wrx and I'm really considering this exhaust tbh. its not loud and it doesn't sound raspy like other exhausts for these cars
Edgar Valenzuela did you get it?
did you get it?
This was the best video I've came across yet 👍🏽
Indeed
Good video man! Clean setup, nice exhaust, nice ride!
This sounds deeper than the nameless axel back. The nameless axel back crackles and pops though. I wonder if you combined both would it be the best of both worlds? 😮
I have a '17 WRX, I am just itching to get that exhaust.
Raquel Moore do it. this one will not disappoint you! can't wait go get a j-pipe
Sergiooh I too have a '17 WRX. Im undecided with either this exhaust or the Nameless catback. The R400 looks great and from the video it sounds pretty nice too but feel the video does no justice. The same goes for the Nameless exhausts videos. Can you tell me if it's much louder in person compared to the videos? I feel that after the cold start it gets as quiet as the stock exhaust.
nowuknow.. I agree with you, the videos on RUclips never do the exhaust sound any justice.. it does quiet down after the idle drop but it isn't as quiet as stock. however when you gun it, it just sounds too good to even describe.. I'll try to get more audio of it up. as soon as I can.
Sergiooh i got r400 and installed it! Sounds great! It is a bit quite after the cold start but when you gun it, the sound comes alive! No complaints.
nowuknow glad you like it. Def. One of the best exhaust I've ever owned!
This sounds amazing, and great video.
Nice exhaust! I was leaning towards the Ark Grip, but after hearing the Invidia, I'm sold. I have a 16 WRX and can't wait to get some stuff going on. Bigger turbo, front mount intercooler, yada-yada-yada... But for now, I'm gonna grab the Invidia and some Swift R lowering springs.
Lorenzo Smith sweet! Check out my latest vid for better audio of it.!
Love the sound I can’t wait to get this for my wrx
Same you get it yet?
Awesome video, thank you. I've been researching these exhaust systems..whether to do the CObb Stage 2 with their Exhaust , or go Stage 1 and pick up the r400. I noticed a lot of these guys that end up with Invidia go with the q300...but feel like they're missing out! This r400 sounds amazing, and am betting is greater in person. Thanks for heping my decision become even easier!
Aaron Albanes not sure about cobb. But this one will not disappoint 🙌
The cobb one sounds almost identical to stock just a little more loud if Catback. Any stage 2 or maybe even 1 with a downpipe will open up much more and be much more throaty. The r400 is a more of a throaty exhaust in just catback and my friend has r400 with invidia catted downpipe and I️t is loud and throaty. I️ have the n1 dual exit with invidia catted dp and Perrin intake and mine is incredibly deep and it’s about as close to an ej sound as I️ can get on the fa. Mine is also louder than my friends r400 and only difference in our cars is intake and n1 vs no intake and r400. Same dp. Same tuner.
racetm street. Cause dual exit. I’m also catted. If it was catless or non resonated it would’ve been much louder
Hat off to you sir! I tried to do it this way but god damn it was so hard to so i ended up taking it out and doing it piece by piece hahaha what a legend!
awesome video dude. I subscribed. hope to see more of those cool videos. BTW nice wrx.!!!
Hey man, sick install! I'm getting this catback here in a few weeks and your video helped out a lot! Quick question for ya, non-related to the catback. Did you do the full 1000 mile break-in period? I noticed the high RPM on the new car and was curious. I picked up my 2018 a few weeks ago and have heard lots of mixed opinions! Let me know, thanks!
Cameron Casperson I played it safe on the 1k break in period so I did stay under 4k rpm.. I did break in the car quick tho cuz of work so by the time I put the exhaust on it was already at like 4kmiles
I thought the whole break in thing was weird too but I played it safe.
i have this exhaust on my 2018 wrx and its very nice and well worth the price. i have purchased the invidia catted j pipe as well and im in the process of getting parts for a pro tune and im very eager to hear this wonderful exhaust with the j pipe.
James Kocks let me know how this sounds when you’ve done this mod you’re talking about!
@@Yamonas unfortunately it wont be til next year. I have to be more adult for a while.
Invidia baby!
I have the remark axle back right now and I love it , but still plan on upgrading to this in the spring.
great exhaust, loving the looks of the burnt tips. cool edit too! subscribed!
Very brave of you to trust that harbor freight jack with no jack stands.
Question man, when you installed this, did you have to get an adapter for the stock downpipe?
you ever figure this out?
Does it sound quiet but the rumble so deep in person? Love that type of sound 💯💯💯
Great vid man keep it up
Sharp looking.
Wow.
Thanks for the video. Hard to compare the sounds in video. Is R400 sounds more deep and loud? . is worth to put it on? Thx
Just ordered mine, fkn buzzin
very inspiring bro!!!
Did you use the donut flange or bought a down pipe to 3” gasket?
2:03
Where did you get the rear window visor? Awesome exhaust one of the best sounding one out there.👍👍👍
I got it on Ebay. I dont have the link on me right now but I beleive one of my other install vids should have it.
I'm do in the install tonight, did you find it difficult installing as one piece? I never even thought to do that.
Jonathan Berardi I did it in one piece on an frs before so I thought I'd do the same with this one. Only thing is, if you don't have help, you'll need to somehow support the tips semi level with the flange (where the stock exhaust mates with the invidia) otherwise it'll be hard to put the bolts on. If you get what I mean. Now that I think of it you might be able hang the tips first using the stock hangers and then mates the flanges.
If you do it in one piece that is.
Hey man! Another question for you, where did you jack the rear of your car? Trying to install mine but can’t find the jack point or mention of it anywhere. Thanks!
Kid Caspy umm I wanna say I lifted it from the inner most part of where the lower control arm bolts. I didn't show it in vid but I put a jack stand support on the left and the jack on the right side of the car. Should have used 2 jack stands though for safety.
Great Video 👌
Do you have to make any modifications to the engine for this exhaust? Thanks
Did yours slide over that dome piece in the center section? Mine won’t slide over it
Yeah man that sounds good.
Did u need any adapter hooking to cat or was it just a bolt on and go???
i just bought this last night, you will need an adapter
Nice vid bro I got a 2018 wrx same color and really considering this exhaust was your car stock at this point?
Yea it was bone stock
Thanks for the reply bro 🤙🤙
Bro when you made this video. Was your car stock??
how does this compare to the OEM + option exhaust AKA SPT?
Does it have that subie rumble??? Can’t really hear it when compared to other catbacks like the tomei expreme
Sounds mint bro. Is there much drone on the freeway in fifth/sixth gear?
Mitchell Duncan very minimal drone. almost none.
Good to hear! Thanks mate
Did you have to buy a adaptor to hook up with the stock downpipe.
Brian Metcalfe nope. Just remove the stock donut gasket and use the one provided with the cat back. It's a flat gasket.
No pops? Which exhaust is best for a 2020 WRX premium to make pops and crackles, loud?
hows it sound with aftermarket j pipe seemes like r400 louder on sti
I wonder how this wound sound on the 370z....
what tools did you use (sizes)
Steve M 14mm socket with ratchet/open wrench, if you have standard you can get by with 9/16 socket or open wrench. don't over torque or you might strip the nut/bolt due to not being the proper size.
Sergiooh thanks bro!
Do you need a tune for this catback exhaust?
Do you need a tune for that ?
not sure which one i should go for this one or turboback is not as simple as i thought it would be to just get it
buzocaperuso what’s turboback? And what’s difference
Sorry bro, it didn’t sound great. Not sure if it was my audio settingsZ . Was able to hear turbo spool.
does anyone know how the r400 compares to the borla s-type? I love the look of the r400 and I've heard some good clips but nothing that wows me like the borla does but it's hard to tell from videos
My baby mama hates my car but one thing she did say was .. whatever I did to make my car sound the way it does, she absolutely loves it. Invidia r400 but then again I have an sti and it just sound super deep and rich on the sti.
Is it really this easy to do? Wow, maybe I can do this myself. How hard would you say it was?
dairo1 honestly I think this is the easiest first mod to do to a car. I'd say it would take roughly 30min to an hour to complete. I took much longer die to recording. But I did an frs in 35min. Give it a try!
Did you flash it or anything after with a cobb? Mine is still under warranty so I haven't went down that road yet, but hell a catback sure as hell wont void it.
dairo1 no flash. Dealer hasn't given me any issues, I think they're mod friendly (think lol).
Cool. Is that a 2017 base? I literally have a red 2018 base lol. I love it, but my god it's soooo quiet. Driving me insane. I don't know why subaru put so much sound dampening in the cabins. Just put on my rally armor mud flaps, and my coverking seat covers, and some red black badges over the outside stock subaru badges. Looks clean, just needs some growl now. Can't wait until warranty is over so I can flash it. Nice ride man.
dairo1 yea its a 17 base. Gotta love that red huh! . And yea I agree. Needs more ROAR it's still way to quiet for me still. Void the warranty lol straight pipe that Bii 😁
Hey bro you still located in so cal would like to hear that exhaust in person, if could meet up
Dee Preme im with you too...
0:03 sums up what I was thinking, chalking the wheels there makes no sense.
Cool catback exhaust bro! I have a 16 wrx, but i use to travel (in my country this car isnt cheap like in the USA), and the noise of the interior of the car is affected or being too noisy?
Lucaas044 it is affected, yes. Sounds much deeper and louder. It is tolerable though. Not loud when cruising and loud when you floor it.
😮
Did you remove the wire/rubber bushing that was on the stock downpipe where it connects to the mid pipe ? I couldn't get the r400 midpipe to seal all the way so I took it off and just used the aluminum gasket that came with it
Alex Trujillo I had the same issue. But yea in the end I ended up taking it off and using the one provided with the catback.
Sergio WRX Corona yeah dude thanks so much for responding .. I feel much better now lol I was worried about exhaust leak because I removed that piece ... feels better knowing others did the same thing too
Alex Trujillo haha I felt the same way. No worries, you're good. Did you end up getting an r400?
Sergio WRX Corona yeah man I put it on yesterday ... it's so loud bro in the cockpit with windows down .. I love it .. only thing is tip size ... there pretty big lol.. and I didn't get the burnt tips
Alex Trujillo glad you like it.. I had ordered the non burned tips but didn't realize they gave me the wrong one till I got home... keep an eye on those tips if they sit way to close to the bumper they might burn it. Started happening to mine on the left side so I bent the hanger brackets a bit to give it more clearance. 🙌
What kind of rear window visor is that? :)
Did you do any tuning once you put the exhaust on?
Max Landy no tuning.
Do you need any gaskets to install this? Or does it come with one?
STIjojoSTI it comes with all the gaskets you need. Use the one provided for where the mid pipe mates with the cat. Don't use the donut most people get confused here. They won't mate properly if you use the stock donut.
How loud is it , guessing 90 db?
Is it louder than stock?
Iam debating Ets extreme vs INVIDIA r400?
I've been looking at cat-back exhaust systems for two months now trying to pick one for my 2019 WRX. I just can't figure out if I'm going to feel that the r400 is too quiet. Can you answer one thing for me? Rate the r400 on how loud it is (on a scale from 1-10) compared to the stock exhaust if one is the most quiet and 10 is the loudest? If the stock exhaust is rated a 1 for loudness, what would you rate the r400?
I'd say around a 7. If I could go back and purchase a different exhaust I just might have gone with the ets quad tip. The one without any resonators all straight pipe. Dont get me wrong I love this exhaust it definitely was worth the purchase. I love the very distinct sound it has, it's not as loud as an n1 but not as quiet at the q300.. it definitely does sound better than the n1 imo.. also, I'm tbe now with a invidia catless down pipe and headers now and the sound is just unbeatable, I've had random dudes at car meets be like dude that's the cleanest sounding fa I've ever heard. Good lucky choosing its definitely tough with all the options out there
@@subie_sergiooo1147 Wow 7 ok so it sounds like the r400 is much louder than stock. That's awesome man my goal is to get a tbe myself. My thing is that I'm not great when it comes to driving a standard. I want my cat-back to be loud enough that I can focus more on my shifting by the sound of the car. Do you think that'll work with the r400? Sorry for all the questions.
@@joshuawood6644 yea most definitely. You'll get use to the sound of the rpms and shift and you'll probably even be able to guess where you're shifting at based on the sound. I know I can and did when I first got it.. I have 2nd video here with more driving and the exhaust sound. Not sure if you got to see it but it gets the exhaust sound a bit better than this video. Not the greatest but it might help.
I feel bad for cause no subi rumble
How does it compare sound wise to the upgraded STi exhaust? It’s hard to tell from the video, and I like the deeper sound of my exhaust but I love the look of this one. If the Tone matches then I’m sold lol
Ltrain225 watch my other video, I think it does the exhaust a bit more justice. As far as comparison to STI exhaust im not 100% sure.
Which part of the rear did you place the jack?
RPaoProductions under the inner most part of where the LCA bolts onto. Not the best spot but it worked just fine. i did place a jackstand on the leftside and moved the jack to the right side of the car.
Noob question: I have the sti performance exhaust, would I be able to install this? Wasn't sure if there was something different along the sti performance exhaust that would prevent attachment of something like this
Garrett Feiner are you talking about installing just the tips to your sti performance exhaust?
Sergiooh yea just pop off the current muffler and tips and put on a different one like this one
Garrett Feiner I dont know if they will fit perfectly. but just just by looking at pics of the 2 it looks like it'll work.
It will fit. The 15 and up WRX and STI have the same exhaust fit after the Catalytic converter.
Is it loud during regular driving? Like under 4k rpm. Ever get pulled over?
JaHm3sZ nah it's not bad at all. I've drivin in front of cops a lot of times and never got pulled over.
Sergiooh thanks for your reply! Also, is this with downpipe? If so which one?
JaHm3sZ no down pipe. The car is completely stock. ☺
Is it too loud ?
Does this require any other parts or will it fit on a stock 15 STI without any other parts? Thanks!
Brick Hub I think everything provided is all you need. And I dont know the answer for sure but I'm gonna say this will fit the sti without any problems
Great thanks!
You get and pops and crackle on decel dude?
Not really. With an intake and AP It pops a bit on every gear and pops loud on 2nd and high revs.. been wanting to upload but havent been able to
The Dude I have this on my 2017 WRX with nameless J-pipe, and get popping when I let off the gas after I’m with over 2k rpm while in 1st and 2nd gear
Downpipe or no?
Does this drone on highways?
Nope if doesnt.. I would say there is no drone to very very minimal.
Doesn’t sound as good as I thought it would... maybe with a downpipe?
Jesus Ortega Sounds better in person. Check out my other vid it might be a bit better. Working on getting the down pipe and a few other goodies.
mmmm it sounds so nice but it DOESN'T POP
Stock headers and piping?
danny sidamdouane yes all stock
Did you have to use the stock donut gasket inbetween the midpipe and down pipe?
Steven Nguyen I was confused on this part as well but no you don't use it. Remove it otherwise both flanges will not mate properly and use the larger gasket that invidia, or any other exhaust brand provides you with.
is that stainless or titanium?
mike ross stainless 3"
Does this require a tune
TheJulioHidalgo no tune.
Did you reuse the stock hangers?
RPaoProductions yea I reused them.
RPaoProductions about how much did this coast man? I just got a wrx and wanna get exhaust. you notice any he gains at all? I'm new to the wrx world. I've had a modded srt4 for 14 years lol
Eric joker the CB exhaust was $960. as far as gains I didn't feel much, if any, difference. Just more vroom vroom that you can hear. I will be doing the J pipe in the near future and that's where the gains will be. I'm also new to the subie world so ill be learning as I progress with this car.
RPaoProductions thanks for the reply man. As we speak mine is getting fixed at the dealer . Some old lady hit me and I've only had the car for last then a month
Eric joker oh man that sucks. no worries you'll be back driving it soon 👌
Stock jpipe/downpipe?
Mitch Obando yes stock. only cat back.
Sergiooh does it pop/crackles?
Mitch Obando yea it does, not too much tho, but only happens when I gun it and shift around4k rpms
thanks sir!! great wrx btw!
Going to burn out your clutch if you keep launching like that.
You hear any popping from this exhaust set up??
Yea you'll find the sweet spot to make it pop
Stock wrx sir?
Karl yes sir
Bro did u put the 2 oem volt w/ spring?
Karl 🤔 honestly cant remember if I did. You're asking cause the bolts dont reach all the way?? If that's the case then most likely I didnt put them on and just did bolts and nuts.
How do u adjust the muffler to be center?
Karl the tips? Idk I just tightened everything on the ground prior to installation and it all worked out fine.
how does this sound while on the interstate at say 65 - 70mph? is it tolerable? i had the magnaflow on mine for about a month and had to take it off due to it being to loud inside the cab while cruising down the interstate.
Aaron Woodall honestly it is really quite, windows up. I would have preferred for it to be a bit louder but I still love the way it sounds.. however when you lower the windows it does get louder and sounds really beefy.
thanks for the quick reply, i am seriously on the fence for this one.
Aaron Woodall I would recommend this to anyone. Ahh decisions decisions 😊
R400 or ETS extreme ?
I think that when it comes to exhaust it's always a Personal preference.
Do you know the noise level?
No I don't.
brotha rev it better
A 4cly lol nothing compared to a real sound like a V8
Any extra turbo noise with this ?
Nope
how long did the install take you?
Johnathan Giles took me roughly 4 hours. But that's only because I was recording everything. Can be done in 30 to 45min
Sergio WRX Corona thanks man and awesome job with the vid. I just got mine in for the 2018 wrx keep on modding
hows the drone?
Panduh Senpai I honestly dont notice any drone. So I'd have to say almost no drone to very minimal.
