Anyone considering a fishing kayak could do well to listen well to what you say Dean. Nothing but experience talking and proven results. Always loved my Tarpons when I was in Texas... Wish I still had one.
It's nice to see that the Tarpon is still around. The fishing kayak market is a whole lot different today than 15-20 year ago. The Tarpon 160i is what got me into both paddling and fishing, and is close to the top of my list of all time favorite kayaks. There's something to be said for the simplicity of grabbing a pfd, paddle, couple of rods, and a tackle box and enjoying a nice paddling kayak.
The marketing machine realized kayak fishing was the fastest growing market in $1 billion industry and things definitely changed… But it’s hard to improve on simplicity
“But you will see them… close to the launch” 😂 I fish out of a hobie and I love it but I’m really considering getting a tarpon 140 as well for skinny water. I fish a lot in water to shallow for pedals and I agree these bigger kayaks are not the best paddlers I fished with Jared esley one time and learned how efficient a good paddle kayak can be
I used to kayak fish a lot back in the day out of a perception pescador 12 and out of 14 redfish. And I have to agree the older style molds are the way to go for serious fishing. These newer style seem to me slow, heavy and prolly catch a lot of wind. They look cool but I’m betting that they are a chore to paddle. I wish the industry would go back their roots
Way back in the day I paddled a Tarpon 160 (16" boat). I also had a T120 (12: boat} They were both good boats. That was before the advent of the T140. IMO the 140 is just about the perfect boat.
@@mikescott7289 IMO the 140 is the best of the bunch. It's not as cumbersome to handle as the 160, and it feels faster and smoother to paddle than the 120. Don't get me wrong, both the 160 and 120 are good boats, but I feel the 140 is the best of the lot.
I love the Tarpon series but i bought a ride135 cause it has a higher weight capacity. I'm 6,4" 300 pounts. For me kayaking means to paddle. I don't like the new pedal drive kayaks.
Got me a second had Tarpon 160 with a rudder. I usually fish off a sea kayak which is more efficient but sometimes I like the sit on top. Can you recommend the depth on a flush mount rod holder to mount on the Tarpon? I see some at different depths. I am thinking but not sure I can use a 9 inch flush mount rod holder. Here's my video from my latest trip with my Tarpon 160 ruclips.net/video/LeTMm7XqJDo/видео.html

Beautiful videography and well thought-out explanation of the kayak basics folks need to consider, Dean.
Still love the 140. Simple. Pleasures.
Hey Dean
Well done, Mi Amigo! Lots of good advice.
You are definitely an old schooler and appreciate you checking in
Hey Dean...."You done good boy"! Great video!
Good to see you back here Capt!
Thanks man and looking forward to keep the videos coming… Really excited about the new project

140 All day! Great information 🎣
I miss my Tarpon
Many people went for something new and different and I hear that a lot

You are most welcome.

Barry, what is the reason you prefer the 140? I’m just getting started at 56 years old and was considering the 120, but looking for recommendations.

ive got a 120 and a 160, now i need the 140 so i can really take up room with kayaks
Have a tarpon about to do some river fishing and want a simple anchor. How did you rig yours up?
Are use a 3 pound grappling anchor… Just clipped on to a deck loop with about a 10 foot rope
Does Wilderness still make the 140?
Tarpon 140 vs 120. Pros and cons?
What happened to your t160? Fastest kayak I ever paddled.
I still have it and venture out in it quite often
Имею каяк похожий на ваш, чисто гребной вариант, очень им доволен!!!
