This was, and is, one of the best productions for our time. The sad thing is that people don't like to watch Western shows anymore. But if they would look at the history in it, and take the deep content in it and understand it, it's not about a western, it's about history. This movie finally portrayed the hardship, the fight and the backbone of this country; our women, every man who fought in a war was born of a woman, who loved, nurtured, taught, fed, cared for, educated, cried for and mourned the loss of a home, a husband, son, cousin, grandson, friend etc. in her life, and through it all endured everything and gave her life blood sweat and tears to birth the nation we are today. Women also had to fight for their right to vote and many other things; so also mention, women were faced with much criticism and prejudice as well.
Yes, true women. To the end. Good movie. As decendant of one who went through the Trail of Tears into Oklahoma, the stories were told when I was a child of the suffering. The bitterness died with the last relatives in my generation. Our nation had too many who hated for hate's sake from cause to cause, and war to war. Yet I like the way this story shows that love, respect, and forgiveness is the path to peace. Well done.😊
I too am a descendant of people who have hated, and some who still hate. There is, and has been, deep bitterness over things that happened to prior generations, in a different time, and in different circumstances. At some point someone has to let go of the past and just let it be. Dragging old, past grievances along with us serves no purpose. I’m convinced that some people cannot be at ease with themselves unless they hold grudges and grievances. I don’t want to be one of them. I choose to let go of the past, and hope that other people will let me. I wish you love and peace.
A magnificent look at American history. Angelina Jolie and Dana Delaney were standouts (as usual). There was laughter, tears, joy, and excitement - and that was just me!!! I thoroughly recommend this movie as a well acted, and quite accurate from what I've read, drama about the early west. I LOVE American history, and this movie transported me back to a time that was not THAT long ago, but far removed from the comforts of modern times.

Great Movie, even in 2024 filled with truths and that above all HUMANITY must reign supreme for a civilized world. Even today women must be awake of their responsibility and their purpose to maintain a civilized world. Don't forget that.
I appreciate the performance of all the actors in this movie. It glossed over the true heart brake of Native American and African Americans in the 19th century. The "good hearted" settlers were very few and far between. However I will give it credit for capturing the feel of Texas charm! The main characters were very much like the women of Texas! It gets a solid 4 of 5 stars.
This movie is and has been in my top five favorite movies since it came out in the late '70's. The book's sits in my bookshelf and has been read more than a couple of times. Dana Delaney I've lived since I first saw her in China Beach about Viet Nam. Angelina Jolie did a fabulous job as Georgia. Thank you for this!!

This was absolutely incredible. im completely speechless. i have no idea why 1997 ive never heard or seen this 2 part movie before. it's absolutely wonderful & the best depiction of true american history in a film ive ever seen including a tremendous focus on a particular set of women during the founding of this nation. so many tid bits making up the whole i really would love to see this as part of standard school curriculum. what more history does anybody need to see how things were. it wasn't even that long ago. so unbelievably well done i enjoyed every minute of this fine story telling adventure with some pretty surprise performances. great lines too like 'there must be more to life than just livin' :) everyone needs to watch this 2 part Epic American Adventure. the acting by the 3 main women we already know & love was perfect. really changed my whole perspective on things, things you think you already know.

How about the women that lost her husband and son. Sara threatened to shoot. Delivered Sara's baby, and had to go to femmy, to tell her about saras baby. Only to find out another baby had died. Women are strong! The most respect for the women of the past that started our foundation. I wished there was a scene with that women and Sara after all that mess. I know, sara was going though her horrible ordeal. But, a little compassion for that woman, from Sara, would have been heartwarming. Femmy and Sara were both consoled by the other women.

Worth watching all the way. Great story, excellent cast, superb acting!!! Those girls had solid friendship when they were younger. Later on, the friendship was severed because of opposing stands regarding some realities of the society they lived in. But I'm glad they were able to reconcile again. 'Sarah' was a warrior in every way. Every human being deserves respect, irrespective sex, race, color or economic strength. There is no such thing as superiority between male and female; no race on earth is better than others. There's no need to fight or kill one another. We're all humans. I may not know you, but I love you all, wherever you are.

This was, and is, one of the best productions for our time. The sad thing is that people don't like to watch Western shows anymore. But if they would look at the history in it, and take the deep content in it and understand it, it's not about a western, it's about history.

This movie finally portrayed the hardship, the fight and the backbone of this country; our women, every man who fought in a war was born of a woman, who loved, nurtured, taught, fed, cared for, educated, cried for and mourned the loss of a home, a husband, son, cousin, grandson, friend etc. in her life, and through it all endured everything and gave her life blood sweat and tears to birth the nation we are today. Women also had to fight for their right to vote and many other things; so also mention, women were faced with much criticism and prejudice as well.
Finally a film about what the women went through back in the beginning of this nation. Women worked hard beside their men and gave birth to a nation.
They can't tell all of what really happened. It's too brutal and horrific.
Given the violence of today's world I don't believe this film could be any worse, just saying.
There already was a nation, several to be exact and yes women worked hard beside there men while they wiped out almost all indigenous people.

As decendant of one who went through the Trail of Tears into Oklahoma, the stories were told when I was a child of the suffering. The bitterness died with the last relatives in my generation.
Our nation had too many who hated for hate's sake from cause to cause, and war to war. Yet I like the way this story shows that love, respect, and forgiveness is the path to peace. Well done.😊

I too am a descendant of people who have hated, and some who still hate. There is, and has been, deep bitterness over things that happened to prior generations, in a different time, and in different circumstances. At some point someone has to let go of the past and just let it be. Dragging old, past grievances along with us serves no purpose. I’m convinced that some people cannot be at ease with themselves unless they hold grudges and grievances. I don’t want to be one of them. I choose to let go of the past, and hope that other people will let me.

I appreciate the performance of all the actors in this movie. It glossed over the true heart brake of Native American and African Americans in the 19th century. The "good hearted" settlers were very few and far between. However I will give it credit for capturing the feel of Texas charm! The main characters were very much like the women of Texas! It gets a solid 4 of 5 stars.
You make an unfair judgement of how many "good hearted" settlers there were. Only God knows a person's heart.

This was absolutely incredible. im completely speechless. i have no idea why 1997 ive never heard or seen this 2 part movie before. it's absolutely wonderful & the best depiction of true american history in a film ive ever seen including a tremendous focus on a particular set of women during the founding of this nation. so many tid bits making up the whole i really would love to see this as part of standard school curriculum. what more history does anybody need to see how things were. it wasn't even that long ago. so unbelievably well done i enjoyed every minute of this fine story telling adventure with some pretty surprise performances. great lines too like 'there must be more to life than just livin' :) everyone needs to watch this 2 part Epic American Adventure. the acting by the 3 main women we already know & love was perfect. really changed my whole perspective on things, things you think you already know.

How about the women that lost her husband and son. Sara threatened to shoot. Delivered Sara's baby, and had to go to femmy, to tell her about saras baby. Only to find out another baby had died. Women are strong! The most respect for the women of the past that started our foundation. I wished there was a scene with that women and Sara after all that mess. I know, sara was going though her horrible ordeal. But, a little compassion for that woman, from Sara, would have been heartwarming. Femmy and Sara were both consoled by the other women.

Excellent movie! The South still wasn’t fought over slavery it was fought over states rights.
I believe The American Civil War was in The beginning about States rights but in The 3 year of The War it was over slavery. Just My opinion. Not denying The truth.

Those girls had solid friendship when they were younger. Later on, the friendship was severed because of opposing stands regarding some realities of the society they lived in. But I'm glad they were able to reconcile again.
