We like gambling on cruises, and get many free cruises through the casino. However, we bring a certain amount of cash for gambling on each cruise and when it's gone, it's gone.
My husband and I gamble occasionally at casinos in different places at Indigenous Casinos. We have a budget going in and when we hit our pre set limit, we are finished.
We win free interior cabin cruises through the casino then upgrade to balcony. We don't go to the casino to win big but to churn over time. We do quite well using the casino free cruises.
We bring cash to spend in the casino and when it's gone it's gone. it's the same for when we go to our local casino. And we have heard people talk about spending their rent money. You have to set limits. Casinos are not free! Thanks Don!
"No one is telling me how much I'm spending and they are at fault" made me sit back. Moronic excuse for poor spending habits. I set a budget and when it's gone it's gone.
There seems to be an unfortunate increasing incidence of people refusing to accept responsibility and accountability for their own choices and actions.
I personally avoid the casinos because the payouts are shamefully low. I understand not blaming others for bad choices but I don't understand why the cruise would give credit for thousands of dollars without securing payment first
Yes you are correct that is why they have them! Cruise ships have the highest odds - as Don said 20% revenue comes from the casino. Note the word Revenue. That is what it is about. After 20+ years in gaming it’s all about the gambler feeling good about loosing!🎉
I don’t understand how people think they are not responsible for their actions. I think filing a lawsuit because you can’t control yourself is despicable.
Unfortunately gambling addiction is not something to joke about, that being said it is not the cruise line's issue. Perhaps these people should have themselves barred from all casinos, it can be done.

There is no legal obligation (at least when cruising from/to the U.S.), for a cruising companion/roommate to pay for their partner's gambling debt. Unless they are married, in which case, they can be sued. But after allowing someone to spend, a cruise line cannot unilaterally detain a passenger when they are in a U.S. port. The passenger can and will be held accountable, of course. But friends/ parents/ others not their spouse, cannot be held liable.
I went on a cruise last January, and I used cash at the machines. Each night I would use $20.00 when it was gone that was it. Better luck the next night.
I do think the cruise line should maybe make it a little more difficult to lose that kind of money so quickly. A daily limit that you have to sign to override might be a start. Or a daily gambling summary to the cabin? Or a delay in recharging the account? This would hopefully nudge someone who is spending too much to maybe slow down.
