There's more passion and emotion in Swamp Thing and Abigail's lovemaking sequence than in most sex scenes in Hollywood movies. The writing is beautiful and sincere, and the art is just mesmerizing. Timeless.
Personally i like human male X nonhuman female loving like Cheetah and Batman on Justice League, Alien Nation, Hattonslayden's artworks, Bojack Horseman, Regular Show and more better
Alan Moore’s Swamp Thing run is just something entirely special. No other comic I’ve read has had this much themes and concepts of live, death, nature and love. The closest is Immortal Hulk with the body horror, but even then Swamp Thing honestly does it even better. (Immortal Hulk is great though) These Swamp Thing essays are some of your best comic videos. Can’t wait for the next one. Until then...HELLBOY and DAREDEVIL!
I'm a huge fan of Scott Snyder's run on Swamp Thing, and I can tell you love swamp thing too, considering you're making a whole series on Alan Moore's run!
Yeah, do recall that Bissette and Totleban had just finished Down Amongst The Dead Men in Saga of the Swamp Thing Annual #2, which had a higher page count than the average issue. Nor was that the first time Nolan stepped in; he illustrated the pivotal issue "The Burial" which dealt with Swamp Thing burying Alec Holland and by extension the pre-Moore version of the Swamp Thing.
Saga of the Swampthing is one of if not my favorite run of all time. I wonder if it came out today how it would be received? Which is a shame because it’s brilliant. Just like this series. Another brilliant dissection or should I say inspection of a equally brilliant story. Best channel around
Great story as i read the Swamp Thing graphic novels at age 10 back in 92 as i collected ST comics since 4 in 86 after seeing the movie on TV and been my fave DC character since
Matt, your video on the anatomy lesson inspired me to read the saga of the swamp thing and it became my favorite arc in any comic series. This is the first video you made on swamp thing where I knew the story prior to watching and i still learned stuff I didnt know. Thank you for your hard work and for inspiring me to read
Thanks for continuing to highlight my favourite series' of all time. I didn't even know the context for the Pog story so thanks for making me aware of that too!
This reminded me that you haven't done any Hellblazer videos that I know of, at some point it might be cool to see your take on some Constantine stories
An absolutely phenomenal video as per usual Matt. 😁 👌 Your love for this series shines brightly throughout the whole video series thus far and is spurring me on to pick up the remaining books/volumes and read the run in its entirety. Cheers! 🍻 P.S. If and when time permits please do continue your analyses of the rest of the issues of Moore's tenure on the book.
Seeing that you've never done an X-men centerted video, I'd love to hear your take on House of X and Powers of X. Also more Swamp Thing in the future would be much appreciated.
Some thoughts: 1) I knew about Pogo's source material but never had proper context for it before now...thanks, Matt! A more recent series called Spencer And Locke by David Pepose used the source material of Calvin and Hobbes in a similar manner. 2) Was "Abandoned Houses" the first instance in which The Dreaming popped up in DC Comics? I know this story predates Gaiman's Sandman by four to five years, so... 3) Rite Of Spring remains another series highlight for me and I absolutely agree with Moore's thoughts on a relationship that actually works. You saw a glimpse of that again with League of Extraordinary Gentlemen before it devolved into a game of "I understood that reference." 4) I always thought of Nukeface as a bit of a tragic figure, cheerfully oblivious to the wanton destruction he was causing. And Part 2 was HEAVILY inspired by Akira Kurosawa's Rashomon and Stanley Kubrick's The Killing in terms of its POV hopping story.
Good takeaways! I'm not sure what the first official appearance of The Dreaming. Depends on if it's when it was named or if it appearing as the framing device for House of Mystery and Secrets.
@@MattDraper Definitely NOT a framing device for The House of Mystery...I have Volume 1 of the black and white reprints and it made like it was the real world.
Always awesome hearing your analyses on Swamp Thing! It's a crying shame that the DC Universe show got canceled because it was great! Have you watched the show, Matt? If you have, I would love to hear your thoughts on it. Great video as always keep it up! 😁🤘🤘
Thanks! I haven't seen the show actually. I was thinking of getting DC Universe to watch it, but didn't when they immediately cancelled it. I was bummed!
@@MattDraper Honestly, I only got DCU app because of the Vertigo shows i.e, Swamp Thing, Doom Patrol etc. But really all content that I have seen in my opinion is either good (Titans S1) or extremely top notch filmmaking (I'm looking at you Doom Patrol). What makes the Swamp Thing show so great is its performances, set design, costumes, writing, direction, but most importantly the tone of the show. It is one of the few Alan Moore inspired media I've seen that actually got his tone/quality of storytelling correct. It's really worth a watch, even if it's the only season we are ever going to get (HBO MAX PICK THIS SHOW UP AND PUT IT BACK INTO PRODUCTION PLEASE!)
Horrifying yet beautiful. I’ve only read a few issues of Alan Moore’s Swamp-Thing, but I’ve been considering finishing this run because of these fantastically edited videos. Though I have a question, do you take requests? If so, I would love your take on some of the books like Steve Gerber’s FoolKiller Rob Rodi’s Loki Katsuhiro Otomo’s Akira Silver Surfer:Parable Berserk or even previously discussed comics like Frank Miller’s Daredevil or Walt Simonson’s Thor, just with a updated script.
I don't really take specific requests, but I'll always accept suggestions for what to read. So I'll look into these. You never know what will turn into a video. Thanks!
Thanks! I'm sort of doing it in a more scattered way with Hellboy and I'm thinking of a few others. All I need is another series that's too big and too deep for one video.
I really enjoyed the whole New 52 Swamp Thing, especially Snyder's run, but Alan Moore cemented it for me and made me a lifetime fan of the character. His run is still the benchmark.
Hi, I have two questions: 1. Will you be doing "Lucifer" by Mike Carey? 2. How can I stop immediately reading all comic books you review and I haven't read?
Before this iconic issue, Moore and his fellow artists pushed the flexible boundaries of their comic to what is possibly their limit with issue 32. pog 8Y
Having just finished Fábio Moon and Gabriel Bá’s “Daytripper”, I couldn’t help but think that it’s a comic that would perfectly suit your awesome style of videos. I’d love to see your thoughts on it and keep up the good work 👍
Well, now that I have the chance... I have to make a video about Women & Pop Culture for my english class. Do you have any tips? And, what programs do you use?
I would read Moore's Swamp Thing but I really don't like the art, it's the coloring, I think. I really don't like the way comics were colored in the 70s and 80s.
I might suggest then...that you look into the Absolute edition of Moore's ST. It has been radically recolored by Steve Oliff. It is pricey and there are claims of low quality binding, but as an owner of the book, i can say its visually stunning.
