  • University Distinguished Professor Salman Rushdie participated in a class discussion of "The Moor's Last Sigh" led by Associate Professor of English Deepika Bahri with undergraduate students at Emory University on March 7, 2012. Here he discusses writing as partly a process of learning about the characters and allowing the book to shift and take on a life of its own.
The interdisciplinary course, "India Today: Economics, Politics, Innovation, and Sustainability," is supported by The Halle Institute for Global Learning (www.halleinstitute.emory.edu).

A person can start writing a novel with a plot in mind or with no idea how the book will proceed and leave it to discovery as one proceeds writing.
