Your communication and availability was excellent and enabled us to purchase easily and quickly. A very professional service provided. I fully recommend your help to anyone looking to buy a motorhome. Lorraine and Julie.
Great video with some very good tips. I’d just like to add if buying secondhand check for any cracks in the shower tray. These can be just hairline but are a major PITA to sort out…and expensive. Also, as you mentioned the ULEZ, be very wary if non compliant and over 3.5t. TfL charges £100 a day for euro 4 and 5…and £200 a day for euro 3 and below! A few years ago I uprated my MoHo from 3.5t to 4.2t and it was reasonably straightforward, pretty much just a paperwork issue. Once Mr Khan changed the LEZ/ULEZ rules I looked into downplating and it’s not a simple process. It’s not just a case of getting back down to 3.5t, you have to prove that you’ve got adequate payload so you need to get the van down to something like 2.8t. Couldn’t do it with mine as I had twin wheelbase with rear wheel drive , a very heavy van, I was surprised it was ever rated at 3.5t. Parted with it now but it was reluctant as it was such a good van
Great advice Jonathan, much to think about, thank you. We made a costly mistake with our first motorhome so we're selling up after 6 months 😬. We love van life and are now looking for the next one. But don't want to make the same mistake again. I'm going to email you. All the best with your new venture. A really good idea. Basically a broker for the buyer. You're going to love it!!
Incredible video, Jonathan. So much to think about. I would be limited because I'm over 75 and don't have the C1 category on my licence now. I still dream of owning a campervan or motorhome to see out my remaining years.
Fair play Bob. Let me know if you are interested in either one on one advice or if you would like to own my new guide,'The One Motorhome Guide'. You can get me in theonemotorhome@hotmail.com
Really good video. One thing I’d emphasise is when in a potential van do a few role plays to get a feel how it would work. For example “bed time” - where’s the bedding, convert the bed, make the bed, go to loo, brush teeth, read in bed, get up for the loo, go back to bed, wake up, put it all way….is this okay as you will do it every day? Can do similar for cooking tea, quiet night in……
What an excellent idea Peter!! I've watched many vids on buying a van, different layouts and models. And after about 5 months of researching eventually found what we thought was the best ever!! After doing a really long tour of 16 weeks in Europe we discovered that it wasn't our "third motorhome first". 😢 Every expert says know how you're going to use the van. How do you know if you've only caravanned? Until you actually try it. We wanted narrow/compact. Tick, but it turned out the passage was too narrow and awkward to shuffle past each othe, and we're not oversized. Fridge and freezer were minute. The freezer was about the size of a 6 pack. Wardrobe space under the feet of the bed meant sitting on the steps to try to get your clothes out each morning. Every morning. 🙄 After 6 months we've decided to sell, take the big financial hit, and look for a more suitable layout. I couldn't agree with you more a our role playing. Great tip.. Thanks. And probably Jonathan's tip of hiring a van of the same or similar layout.
I kept telling myself, can I leave it to you to buy me camper van? then you dropped your offer at the end. Seriously, I’m a first time purchaser of said camper/ motorhome, I’m pretty set on a particular type, and now trying to navigate everything you mentioned, including price, which in many cases is excessive. Most dealers seem reluctant to offer any discounts at the moment. Thanks for this vid Jonathan. Very well put together!!
Excellent information from every point of view! Well presented and honest, no script, showing that you certainly know what your talking about, great tips!
Hi Jonathan, brilliant video with great advice and very well presented. We’ve been doing our homework for nearly a year now and have done everything you covered so it’s good to know when we are ready to buy, we’ve covered all the bases. Look forward to your next vid.
Useful info thank you. One question - if I am a cash buyer and looking at something around £70k am I more attractive as a buyer than a finance buyer and thus can negotiate more? Or do dealers like to sell finance more than having a cash buyer?
Hi Jonathan I am a subscriber and think this is the best video I've seen on the subject with so much help and advice well done. You skipped over tyres. A big expense. Tyres should, ideally be “camper” specific because a motorhome spends a lot of its time parked up and the correct tyres are designed with this in mind. Heavy duty van tyres are not the same. It could cost £1000 to put 4 new tyres on a motorhome and anything over 5 years old should be replaced regardless of wear because the tyres degrade and are usually running at close to their maximum load capacity on a motorhome!
