    Hey Brent, I’ve followed you for a while now and I’ve seen you do tons of home improvements. Would you be willing to give a house tour showing all of the before and after pictures? Thanks in advance

      Oooooo LOVE this comment and video idea. It would be fun to go through all of the projects that I've done on the house so far. I'll have to put up a poll to see who else would be interested in something like this. Thanks for the amazing suggestion Jessie.

    So funny. I've had winter flooding in my downstairs room for years. A year ago, I rented an excavator and replaced the concrete pipe sections(as seen on your video) with french drain.
    I thought the excavator was exactly the same size as yours. When I saw the Miller's Rent All sign on the back, I realized it was the exact same one.
    Excavators are awesome for these jobs.

    I feel your pain on this, my place is built into a small hill and the southeast corner is the high side and where my garage is. We cut that side down and placed the dirt on the north slop to give us a flat place to do slab on grade (South Texas Coast we don't really do basements here). This now means my garage floor is about 5 foot lower than mine and my neighbors upper lawn. Between my lawn and my upper neighbors lawn it's about 70% of an acre and it all flows down hill towards my garage. We knew this going in so we had a 12" wide 50' long drain cast into the front of the garage concert. It has two 3" drains and two 4" drains that feed a 6" pipe that goes under garage and down the hill to the back of the property. For 20 years it worked great, then in 2021 we had one of the craziest rain storms I have ever seen here in my 41 years of life. We got 8" of rain in 45 minutes, this was to much for the drain to handle and cause 2" of water wash through my garage and out the back door of the garage. I end up renting a skid steer and regrading the far wall side of the garage so if it happens again the water can go around the far end of the garage once it gets to just blew the top of the garage slab, it will keep the water about 1.5" below the garage floor.

    Love you're content just had a few questions. Sorry if i missed any of this in the video, but why didn't you connect the 3 "tanks" together to disperse the water evenly? Was it per manufacturer to keep them separated? Why 3 separate "tanks"? Thank you in advance!

    Those flo-wells will stack and in this case may have given a slightly better result and it would have put the water further below the surface. Renting a mini track loader with a 4' tree planting auger would have been the same price and less work.
    Also when installing drainage systems consider which way the water is flowing. In this case the water is flowing out of the drywell into the rock therefore any dirt or debris will try and flow out of the drywell into the rock, the wrap on the outside of the drywell may clog and hinder the flow.
    The Flo-Well from NDS is quite pricey fro what it is. An alternative is to use dual wall corrugated pipe, commonly sold as culvert pipe. You would cut it to length, drill small holes in the sides, and then set it vertical in the hole. They sell various covers and grates that will fit over the end for access just as the Flo-Well has. A second option is to use septic leach field chambers which would come out around the same price as the Flo-Well but are much better quality.
    Overall that was installed very well and I am sure it will do a great job, I just wanted to add those points for anyone looking to install something similar.

    Awesome solution! Sadly not one my brother can use for his garage's flooding issue, though (his garage is under the house like yours, but the neighbor'd driveway is on the left, and there's a 6-foot retaining wall for his front yard on the right). He's put some pavers to raise the lip of his garage, and is planning to sink a pump under floor level, instead. 🤷🏼‍♀️

    Great project! I'm working on the same in my backyard, except that I'm digging manually because the space between the side porch and the fence doesn't let me bring an excavator.
    Did you do soil percolation test before starting the project? My soil percolation is very slow, so I'm adding gypsum to improve percolation.

    • @BYOTools
      @BYOTools  3 месяца назад +1

      I did not do that type of test. Luckily didn't run into any clay so hopefully natural drainage will be just fine. Thanks so much for watching and good luck on your project as well.

    Hey Brent. I’m so glad I don’t have water problems here in SoCal. I saw your past planter box project in the video. Did you take my idea and let the steel side braces rust or patina and then use spray lacquer to preserve that look? Just wondering. Thanks for all the great content!

      Thanks for all the support Roger and glad to hear you don't have water intrusion issues like me :) I did let them rust over but never applied a spray lacquer. Still looks good but need some new plats after this winter haha.

    Did you connect the 3 FloWells together? Otherwise what is the purpose of the other 2 unless they have top drains attached to them. Whenever I have installed multiple FloWells I connected them together and the last one had 8 to 10' pipe run out of the side with a pop-up emitter in case there was an overflow it could drain in the backyard.

  • @Dooblecaine
    @Dooblecaine 16 дней назад

    Do you have any concern, over much time, that the plastic will weaken and result in a potential cave-in of the FloWells? There is quite a bit of weight loaded on top and it's just a plastic material...

    I wonder if you’re doing this RUclips channel as your full time job. Sometimes you’re taking care of things from friends or customers, but I guess you’re also doing that for the channel?

      Luckily for me this is my full time career now. Quite my job back in 2019 to start my own construction company, then something happened to the world in early 2020 that pushed me into content creation full time. Proud to say I get to do what I love for a living thanks to the BYOT Fam for watching and all the support along the way :)

    Hopefully this solved your problem, it was a lot of work. I could tealthough it looks like the grating from your grat should have been going downward to the street and it's going downward toward the garage. Also, the grating should be moved away from your house looks like a good system you put in except for that dirt around that cap seems like the dirt. Will errod.. and washing to Not sure where you're located at , but here in illinois , chicago area suburbs , we use six inch pipes those tanks

    I don’t think this makes a lot of sense. The purpose of a dry well should be to serve as a buffer in times of huge rainfall. The goal should always be to get the water out and moving, not to let it drain into the soil (in a home drainage application). I would set that system up with another pump to slowly move the water out to the city system.

    When i see issues like this, it reinforces my belief thay engineers are idiots. All the codes, inspections, and regulations youre forced to follow, and pay up the ying yang. In the end, its the home owner that has to fix the consequences of idiot engineers and code enforcement--on his own dime and expertise
