WOW! Just imagine how sweet it would be to attend a concert where there were no “hey, look at me” signs, no one standing in their seat, no one hoisted up on another’s shoulders- all blocking the view of those behind them!
@jcces44sh I have Levon's instructional drumming video with maybe 4 songs performed complete. I have posted 2 of them; this one and Up on Cripple Creek. I think a few have been posted by others. Maybe I'll search UTube and upload any of the remaining that I don't find.
Levon was the only American in The Band......the rest Canadian. Check out a tribute to The Band.....The Last Waltz.....with Levon Helms godson on drums.
This was the period in between Billy Preston and Richard Bell. Yes, Billy Preston...THE Billy Preston...was a member of The Band for about 6 months in 1991, following the early death of the great Stan Szelest in 1990. There’s a video of a Band show in the summer of 91 with Billy...the closest thing that The Band had to a frontman. Great show! Having ONE keyboard wizard is incredible...but having Billy Preston AND Garth Hudson was just unfair to the “competition”! As for the greatness of Stan Szelest: there’s a Ronnie Hawkins video on RUclips from the early 80’s with Stan Szelest, who played with the Hawks from time to time (he was a member of The Hawks with Levon, Rick, and Robbie), and The Hawk had him play Whole Lotta Shakin’. I honestly believe that he outplayed The Killer himself! Awesome talent...amazingly underrated.
The world was a better place because of Levon's music! Gone but never forgotten.
Don't forget Rick! R.I.P. bass man!
Rick will never be forgotten.
Just so happy to be playing drums!
Man what a joy. Thank you levon!
a truly american treasure
rip Levon

Fucking Beautiful.
Interesting. Two drummers but only one keyboard (Garth). I don't miss the horns.
