At the end of the film, when Jason Momoa's character says "I'm Aquaman", this is clearly a reference to the comics where the character he's based on, Arthur Curry, is Aquaman.
I think it also might be a refference to the title of the same film, which is quite mindblowing when you think about it, that the film and the main character happened to have the same name. I mean, what are the odds?
When Ocean Master talks to Aquaman about how the surface is ruining the ocean when they first meet one of the holograms is a oil rig exploding (probably the one from Man of Steel)
You may have noticed that a Pitbull cover of Toto-Africa plays when Aquaman goes to Africa. This is of course, a reference to how the filmmakers have no taste in music.
This movie was right up there with Wonder Woman for me as far as DC movies go -- in fact, I think it has actually been my favorite to date, just because I loved the world that they built up.
Am I crazy in saying that Aquaman is the best DC movie so far? I thought it was insanely fun, the costumes were incredible, the action was phenomenal, the pacing was great, the story was solid, some of the lines were a bit cheesy but it’s supposed to be. I might be crazy and I hate the other DC movies but this one was actually pretty great
Movie such a rip-off of other movies (dead mother returns from Ant-Man and Wasp, brothers/cousins fight for kingdom from Black Panther, secret move wins in the end from Karate Kid...)
When Temuera Morrison (Arthur’s dad) says to Nicole Kidman (Arthur’s Mum) he was going to make her some eggs, might be a reference to Once We Were Warriors which is a popular New Zealand movie Temuera starred in back in the 90’s - referring to the line “cook the man some eggs!”
No one saw the Furious 7 easter egg when Mera looked over to Orm during the chase scene!? Much like Vin diesel looking at Paul Walker. James Wan is a legend
I would like to see a Wonder Woman/Aquaman team up/versus movie, such as in a Flashpoint adaptation or something. Both the characters’ attachments to Greek mythology could also open the door for endless possibilities of stories.
If there was more build up in this universe that would be the perfect opportunity for DC to have a Civil War type film, but on a much more massive scale. Imagine a war between Atlantis and Amazon and all the DC characters? It would be insane
Not a reference, but did anyone find it really odd Aquaman kept referring to Norm as his "little brother" when Patrick Wilson is blatantly a man in mid 40s and is clearly older than Jason Mamoa
Dang, when you said “those” I thought you were referring to Mera’s cleavage. So I had to double check the thumbnail again and now I’m lost as to what “those” are.
“Dumbest, yet best comic book costume” is probably the best way to describe their costume. I’m extremely happy that we got comic book accurate costume regardless how stupid it looks. (cough....cough..... Black Manta... even in the comic his costume is ridiculous...cough...)
I find it beautiful that he met Mera in this movie and that he visits Atlantis for the first time in this movie, but he seemed to know Mera and went to Atlantis in Justice League....
Michael Beach was my favorite easter egg. Beach voiced Black Manta in JLU but for legal reasons he was renamed Devil Ray. In Aquaman, Beach played Black Mantas dad. A smaller easter egg was Orms line "give him a view" possibly a reference to the Throne Of Atlantis when he says "make her watch".
When he found his mother in the centre of the Earth, that was just like the How to Train your Dragon movie where hiccup finds his mother in a place hidden from the rest of the world.
01:38 = "She is also the master of water manipulation or hydrokenisis. Why is she alone able to do this? Who is to say?" I believe that the film makers decided to not have other Atlantians of Mera's race use the water manipulation powers in order to make the movie less convoluted for the audience. However, that creative decision seems to have had the opposite effect because lots of folks are wondering why only Mera appeared to have that power. LOL
It's funny because I wondered the same thing back when I started reading the new 52. My fist experience ever with Aquaman and his universe... and it is pretty fucking amazing, especially the art
That and the fact that Atlantis seems to be devoid of magic, instead going for sci-fi technology. It bug the crap out of me during the movie, especially Orm's trident and mask, which are extremely powerful magical items that literally controls storms.
@@7142320 Sci fi and magic are honestly the same thing though. Everything has a science behind it, even fictional things. They don't just exist from thin air.

You didn't mention the Lovecraft easter egg? Thomas is reading "The Dunwich Horror" just before he mates with Atlanta. Really great reference there, because the Dunwich Horror is totally about fish-people mating with humans to create horrorific hybrids.
Did anyone notice at the start if the film after Aquaman is born, when the camera pans in to a globe on the desk in the front room it sits atop a H.P Lovecraft book?? Unfortunately can't remember which one it was though.
In the scene where Aquaman and Orm are preparing for their final fight on top of a ship at surface level, the way the camera zoomed in towards Aquaman taunting Orm and subsequently zoomed out showing them facing each other was a clear nod to Injustice, just like Superman hovered over Steppenwolf in Justice League.
There was also an Easter egg in the beginning where there was a book by H.P Lovecraft in Tom curry's house. Who is the creator of the insane kraken like monster cthulu. In which we get an insane kraken later on in the movie

Heaps of people in the NZ cinema I saw it in cracked up at that one.
I would bet Tem ad libbed the line just for kiwi audiences. I doubt the studio would be down with a domestic violence movie reference 😂
A major plot point was literally having a king sacrifice his queen, giving the wife a bash to cook some eggs is childsplay compared to that.
