💈 Classic Old School Barbershop Haircut & Banter in Butte Montana | Amherst Barber Shop

- A classic old school barbershop haircut experience with Joe Bugni aka "The Butcher of Amherst Street" in Butte, Montana.
Joe was recommended to us by Rob Hammer who had photographed Joe’s shop for his book "Barbershops of America." Rob graciously helped us out by connecting us with Joe.
Joe was very welcoming when we met him and quite the character too. He is 79 years old and has been barbering for decades. When you walk into his shop, you’ll see it is full of collections of items, pictures, and clippings brought in over time by his customers. Also, he continues to only charge $5 for haircuts since his rent hasn’t gone up in a few decades!

I like when the older barbers you visit tell stories
Joe's Italian, and he doesn't talk this much usually. He's just putting on a show for the camera. Been going to him for years.
Harry I hate to say it but I think Joe stole the show with this one hands down. What a gentleman and an entertaining individual.
Only Barber to interact with both Harry, Camera Crew, and customer waiting
That's my uncle Joe! I haven't seen him in over 30 years! I had no idea he was such a character!
Aww your uncle is a total character! He had us smiling from the moment we met him :)
Oh my goodness this video was fantastic. He carried on a conversation with the camera"man" trying his best to get a non-talking cameraman to talk. This guy was a hoot. Enjoyed every minute of it.
Hahaha so true :) Glad you liked the video!
It’s been a few months since I’ve watched this one, but I needed a haircut with a smile today. I hope Joe is still going strong. He is a gem.
Lol the midwest version of the Guardian Angel of Route 66
Droopy 562 Montana is not considered the Midwest.....
did you mean mountain west?
Love this! You can’t knock this good ol’ boy, he’s doing exactly what he does best. His methods are the same that he’s been doing since 1959 and you gotta appreciate that, the haircut turned out very nice. I had a huge smile on my face the whole time.
2 minutes in and I already like this guy.
I have to say, these videos are better when the barber likes to talk. I enjoyed this one
"There's about oh I would say 3 or 4 different lengths in this haircut" XD
This guy is so quotable and knowledgable like Angel of Route 66. I LOVE his Balishine story.
Now that's a barbershop with character. Wonderful barber and the interior design screams old school.
I've gotten several haircuts from Joe as kid he's always been a talker this brings back memories of my grandfather brings me there
No words of 'fade' or 'graduation', just good old fashioned tapering with electrical haircutting at its best with no grades just bare clipper and a comb then going into thinning scissors over comb......no sectioning, washing hair first and ponsing around with products just good old fashioned barbering techniques and conversation. Best wishes to this gent.
I liked that he would explain every step. Nice to see his personality come through. I would just sit and listen. Cheers
This one of the best yet🤣 love the way hes not even looking half the time. Think hes fixed his scissors so they dont cut anything so he can keep chopping away and waffling😂
This is in my top five favourites of Harry’s videos. Joe does a great job of making everything look effortless and tells great stories as he does it. He gets Harry to smile and talk a bit, and gives some insights into the barbers art.
That’s not a bad haircut considering all the scissor action I was expecting you to be bald 😂 loving the old guy always a lesson to be learnt by listening to old people, they have a lot to say X
I used to get haircuts from Joe the Butcher when I was a kid. I remember there was an old fashioned vending machine with glass bottles of coke in his shop. A buzz cut and a coke in a glass bottle? Win.
I never thought I'd see him on YT but Joe is my uncle! I haven't seen him since I was a kid like 30+ years!
I like how his glasses have just morphed into his head
Man, I’m only 25 but watching this video reminds me of being 16 and going to our local barber who at the time was 81 and hearing a different story every two weeks while getting the same old haircut but always a different story and the usuals sitting and shooting the shit
This guy just absolutely roasted Bill.
I was thinking the whole time it wasn’t gonna look good then he kept going and it actually looks pretty good
I really like this guy wish more barbers spoke through their process so I knew what they where doing!
Then you would really like to watch videos from Cliff at Cliff's Barber Cirral.
I usually prefer minimal talking and just to watch and listen to the haircut, but this guy was great, I was laughing and enjoying his commentary the whole time. I sure hope his last barber doesn't watch this though, haha.
You would of thought he was hacking it but that blended majestically
Hi Harry this guy Joe was a character. I really enjoyed this episode. I bet he has a hand full of stories to tell. Thanks for sharing.
"the strait edge razor should be fine in the hands of a professional" with a hugh plaster on the back of his hand🤣🤣 love this guy
That is a good short haircut. I find many younger barbers are good with the clippers and fades, but he clearly understands hair and how to cut it. I know you can't get a major cut every month, but its nice when you hit on the right barber at the right time.
Your channel is all about letting the world have the opportunity to experience interesting barber shops and their owners. So, thank you for finding and sharing with us this establishment.
Butte, Montana birthplace of one of the greatest badasses that ever lived...... Evel Knievel!
This is the most i’ve ever heard Harry talk!!
Hell i didn’t know he had an accent😂
all I ever see is harry walkl in shake hands
set down get shaved, messaged go’s to sleep
😂
These businesses with souvenirs of Americana are my favorites. Always good conversation and interesting.
This video is very under viewed, this guy is a hoot, the ASMR isn’t very strong but an interesting conversation never the less.
By far one of my favorite videos. This guy is a riot.
Loved the paint brush instead of a neck brush.
This old man is Beautiful Art of haircut 😍
Sounds like he’s calling out the previous barber - the Montana farter. Probably why he hasn’t had a license in years lol
😂🤣😅
Imagine Harry walking into a barbershop and tells the guy “cut as much as you think.” Next thing you know he’s bald.
Young Bae there will be a delay in videos for a couple of months 😭😭😭
He could still do those head massage videos lol
😂😂😂😂
This Barbershop is pretty epic! Just so much going on, it's amazing! Makes our shop look pretty bland!!!
Rum Barber, top work! 💈🇧🇷
Abdalah Bearded Thanks Buddy 🙏🙏🙏
Rum barber , i learn alot from your fantastic channel
Rum Barber lol!! I was think the same exact thing Rum!!!😂😂 my shop must seem boring compared to this join!!! Hahaha!!!🤣
Legend for using his right hand to hold the comb
And his left too! Wow
He's a character. I couldn't keep track of which pair of scissors he was using, the regular or the thinning, and I kept waiting for him to snip your hair and say "Ooops!"
Wish I could visit this place, love supporting the old school barbershops.
I could listen to this barber for 20 hours.
such a likeable character, he sure went to town with them thinning shears, but it came out looking a nice shape.
How many times have you watched this video?
Me: 2:16
😂
I like your style. 👍
Once again Harry you have done it!! Great video one hell of a barber not many like him left. Reminds me of my old barber A.V. Hardin and Jack Mintz . They both learn how to cut hair in the military in WWII both went to barber school after the war and set up shop in town. Both are gone. The greatest generation!
This guy reminds me of a local barber friend who's retired now. He'd do the haircut the same way, with the blending shears. The quote, "know your tools" was something else he taught me. This was fun to watch!💈
Are all older barbers comedians in their spare time
Glad to see you back Harry and a great looking haircut also
Yes, Joe did a great job didn't he?! Hope you are having a good week :)
He has a nice way about him.... great video ❤️🇬🇧
Gonna watch this properly later when I go to bed zzzz. Thanks H.
QuaverFlava haha facts!
Great Barber definitely one of the most unique ways of cutting hair. Love the old school barbershops reminds me of them when I was a kid.
We love these old school shops too! Thank you for watching and commenting!
Joe seems to be a very nice guy to talk to.
What a nice old boy he is. Well done for being patient Harry.
Dry sense of humor yet serious. I enjoyed this guy.
Nothing like an old school barber
And this Gents and Ladies is how it's done! I was privileged to be trained by traditional barbers of this beautiful gentleman's expertise. Thanks so much to these Masters Of Expertise! What a fantastic bloke! Love this so much. Everything he said reminded me of the Barber shop I trained in. Thanks for bringing this to RUclips.
I’m from Bozeman Montana and I found this and went yoooooo so yay
He is so charming! I wish I had contact with a classic American barber like this.
I'm french and i see your videos since 2 years and every time is perfect, the barber shop is beautiful!!
Love this 'Old School" Barber...! This video is precious, what a great guy with personality....! Love this.... One of the best barbers ever on your show Harry....! "Baldy Shines", oh yeah....! Only wish I had more hair... I buzz mine now but sure miss sitting in that chair... One of life's true pleasures, a great hair cut..... Enjoy every one Harry...! This was a masterpiece....!
What a character..brilliant barber too! enjoyed that, not a clue what he was on about but enjoyed it lol
I know he's just kidding around and I love his sense of humor! Love this barber! 💖💕💖
That’s a great haircut. This guy knows what he’s doing!
This is the first Barber I have seen Talk to everybody. Pretty cool
This Barber is Legend😍👌🏻😍😍
Amazing and such a funny cool guy. Well done on finding him Harry
Another great video! Great haircut. Love the barber and his shop. His shop reminds me of a bait and tackle shop.
Thanks so much for watching and commenting! We had a lot of fun meeting Joe as well as some of his regulars at the shop :)
This barber is sooo kind and did a super job. Love it :D
Im always so relaxed when watching your videos.
Thank you for uploading Harry.
;)
Life is better for Characters like this this
Joe wasn't fond of Bill's handy work lol. great vid
I can't wait for bills response video, gonna be an intense rap beef
Most enjoyable . Harry he grilled you 😂 Love this man! Maybe he should be Taoiseach 🇮🇪 xxx
Honestly one of the best videos you have Harry! I love it when the barber talks!
So happy to hear you like this new video with Joe :)
@@HairCutHarry i really enjoyed this guy and his talking haha what a nice older fella. Good job harry
@bwe90 Glad you like this :) Joe is really friendly and has lots of stories to share. Thank you for watching and commenting!
He’s amazed by his own work . Love it 😀
This guy would be worth going to for the chats alone
I go to a mostly ladies salon/salons for years, and never felt comfortable in them
Watching Harrys videos convinced me to finally start going back to a straight out guys Barbershop
Classics are always the best
the guy reminds me of Angel Delgadillo the old time Barber on Route 66
The “younger” version of Angel Delgadillo, the Guardian Angel, of Route 66.
Harry - this was awesome and fascinating too! The decor plus he is quite the character! Excellent! Thank You! :-) :-) :-)
Hello MarlinMR7 - always good to see you here! We were in awe as soon as we walked into Joe's shop, and you are right he is such a character :) So happy you enjoyed the video!
@@HairCutHarry Just thought about this Harry - is this barber related somewhat/in some way to Cliff from Las Vegas? He too has a very colorful shop and is interesting to communicate with as my brother has now become one of his customers.
As soon as you grow some hair back - you should go revisit Cliff in my opinion.
Always - emphasis on always look forward to seeing what you post Harry! Cool! Thank You! :-)
Oh wow - that is awesome your brother became one of Cliff's customers! We love Cliff 💈❤️ Would definitely like to visit him again in the future :) Thank you so much for watching and supporting this channel 🙏🏼
He was a lovely barber, really knows his stuff and did an amazing cut for you Harry. He was very interesting to listen to and very informative, a very nice video all in all.
You can tell by the shop that this man's been around..thanks for my H, C, H fix looking forward to seeing where you take us next..
You have an elegant taste of choosing places and towns.
After hard day in work i love to lay in my bed at the end of the day and watching your videos.
Keep making vidéos in such places. I hope one day you make a video in afghanistan
I also love these engaging videos where they talk about useful stuff
hahahahahahaha the experience with the woman left me gasping for air!
hahaha - glad you liked this!
One of the best videos Harry. You have to go back to him in the future.
What a way to end a big day. Thanks Harry
Great work Harry - brilliant video. Fabulous character. Hope the travels are well 🙌🏻👍🏻
A lot of people like to say that talkative barbers are annoying and makes for an awkward expierence. Well guess what? Maybe those same people who think that need to work on their social skills so they don't get uncomfortable during small talk. I absolutely love a great conversation during a hair cut. I often talk more than my barber. This was a great video and a great barber!
I wish my haircut was $5 😭 I'm really boutta visit this place to say I got a $5 cut LOL
You know pops has skills when he is cutting with a amature Walmart clipper and doing a professional cut.
This is the best one lol What a character he is 😄
Top bloke loves his job
What a character , bloody brilliant good haircut again mate
Smart man...always good to see the OG...do there thing..you an learn a lot
Joe's comments on the previous haircuts reminds me of the old saying, "the difference between a good haircut and a bad haircut is two weeks."
I loved watching Joe work. He's done this thousands of times and the muscle memory just takes over. Harry wound up with a fine haircut.
What an absolute legend
Joe is such a treasure!
A new one! Time to relax!
Was afraid at the beginning but that haircut is a Butte😉 Get it? Butte, Montana 😊
