The house just next to the airstrip was my childhood home. My dad was a Dupont Forest Ranger for nearly 20 years. I learned to ride a bike on that airstrip, and I probably have more laps on Airstrip Trail than anyone. The Hunger Games crew did use the airstrip as a basecamp for filming all around the forest, but did not use the runway as a runway due to damage to the asphalt. I sat at lunch with Jennifer Lawrence in the large dining tent that was set up next to the runway. 😉 The coolest part of growing up there was the regular usage by all branches of the US military. Blackhawks, chinooks, Apaches, Ospreys, and Lacotas landed in our front yard regularly while they conducted training exercises all around the forest. We got to be pretty close with some of those guys, they brought the meat and we provided the grill. 😂 They even used my family as mock hostages in some exercises, and my dad was airlifted in a stretcher once. I’ve grown up and moved away to Alaska to guide flyfishing, and I’m pretty sure that home is empty now. Kind of surreal to see this video. Thanks so much for posting, glad you enjoyed.
@15:50 I do a lot of backpacking Alex and I have 4L Platypus filter but its the same concept, without the squeezing. The little fibers inside are exactly the same but you dont want to touch them cuz you can block them and the next and more important issue is when the temp drops below freezing and your filter isn't completely dry the water expands and ruptures the cells so the system stops working.
I absolutely trust how slick the rock is! I was hiking over in the area and was rock hopping through one of the creeks and slipped and broke my pinky. I have never seen such slick rocks and I am usually very coordinated!
I've spent hours kicked back at that water crossing watching people fall in. It's one of my favorite places. Just downstream there's some rocks that give you an elevated view.
The crossing at 18:50? I was at that same spot a November evening a few years back and it looked *super* slick. Thought about wading and then realized I was a long way from the car with dark and cold coming and bailed on the idea. Still have a nice picture of where I stopped for the day with my bike looking down at the rapids. Thanks for the memories dude :)
Another great adventure, with some excellent riding. The best part of the video is that no matter how big a RUclipsr you are, you’re mom is always going to worry.
I always walk across that crossing. Good on ya for riding it. It's slick! 😅 Lake Julia is awesome too. Everytime I'm down there, it's like I've got the place to myself.
I have try it twice, and survive! I remember when you start with your videos, I yhink Inwas one of your first subscribers... you have improved so much.. congrats and keep going, you have travel a HUGE path...enjoy your life.. its only once!!! My best wishes man! Cheers from Chile!!!
With all the people you know in the area. How do you not know when walking across to take off your shoes and cross in your socks. It's like some weird magical traction adhesion that is better than your shoes or bare feet. That crossing has provided many many many hilarious moments for lots of SE Mountain bikers.
Only saying this because I love to support this channel, but my wife has recently become an avid LMNT fan. Its a little salty but damned if it doesnt do the job. Great partnership for Alex.
I have questions…. One glove? What is that other bike that you never ride? Are you a maintenance guru? What is your maintenance/cleanup in the van? Soooooo many more! Beer conversation perhaps someday!
Man that was fun start to finish. Felt like I was watching, A Day in the life of a mtn...no no. Surviving the day with a mtn b....no no. THRIVING the day with a mtn biker. YES! As usual, STS with the best mtb entertainment.
i’m one of those people who never rides across streams no matter how small. i don’t like dust hanging on to the drivetrain. but i appreciate your stoke!!
Superb as ever, sorry I just laughed as you took an early bath 😂 happened to me with an overweight backpack on going bike camping. You can just picture me being held low due to a camping backpack in the water entangled with a bike on top of you. 😂 Regarding your filtration use Sawyer they're the best at filtration in my opinion
Sure, you can do that crossing on the days the water table is low. Don't think about trying it in the middle of the summer though. Nice going! I am probably just jealous that you tried it and I never gave it a go LOL!!!
I didn't even know that crossing was possible to ride, it's very ice-like slick, bravo. Laughed at you running at your bike.😅 Also a popular swim spot, on purpose.
OMG I can't believe you rode across that creek!!! I've crossed this creek many times and you can barely walk your bike across because the rocks are so slippery. Dude, you are crazy!
You have been posting a lot of good new trails in the Pisgah area that you have been checking out for the first time. Next Thursday my wife and I are planning on hitting Kitsuma and then before we head back on Saturday to Raleigh we are going to ride Ridgeline. Do you have any food recommendations for Friday?
Single glove sampler? And some of will do what you do but… I need someone around to save my carcass if it doesn’t go according to plan. Keep up the good content!
Great video. 👍 My mom used to ride with me on a Giant brand MTB before MTBs were popular. She was always game even though I took her on some trails beyond her skills. She passed last year and is sorely missed, particularly on Mother’s Day.
That dirt did look nice! Was there some moisture in the ground still? I'm praying for more rain in washington, all my loamers are drying up from the heat wave! 😢
That's real mountain biking. Didn't Single Track Sampler used to show this kind of trail lonnnng ago ....? This is what it's about for most people, not giant gaps and drops.
What a great video and brings a smile to my face. Such a simple fun solo adventure and even though it was a wrong turn going down that last rock section was sick
@19:40 Alex, really man?!?... after telling 20,000 viewers that everyone of your friends eats shit over this water crossing, mind you this includes MTB RUclipsrs as these are your friends also (I would expect Paul to eat shit but not Seth) you proceed to hard charge the falls with your phone in your pocket. Alex you win the cell phone Darwin Awards!!!!! Congrats!!!!!
LOLOLOLOL!! Yea, fanny packs went out a long time ago. Not only do they suck, they are ergonomically poor for the hips on any occasion. Ask anyone who's worn a tool belt for an extended amount of time. What do ya do about batteries and other safety equipment for long rides? If you'd have had a backpack, your phone wouldn't be dust!! ;-))
I'm 2 minutes in and it jus hit me. Alex, why you start off the video saying you just took a dump in the woods and then riding with only one glove after....? hahahahahahahahahaha
The house just next to the airstrip was my childhood home. My dad was a Dupont Forest Ranger for nearly 20 years.

you inspire me to go ride, be healthy, stretch, explore, live free, ride hard and get stoked. you are 100% a role model
@15:50 I do a lot of backpacking Alex and I have 4L Platypus filter but its the same concept, without the squeezing. The energy he has in his videos is such a vibe!
yeah.
No matter what the outcome, I am always there to watch you do your crazy adventures. Good ta see your mom and you together...
That river crossing is so slick and the flow will take your feet out, you were right there and didn’t do big rock trail and cedar rock. I love DuPont
Your positivity is infectious dude. No one gets me more stoked to ride my bike. The comment about talking to myself had me cracking up 😂.
Thank you for taking dumb risks for our entertainment Alex lol we truly appreciated it 🤘
hahahha like I said, I'm trying that 100% of the time with or without the camera, so it works out perfectly!
This has to be one of your best videos ever! Thanks for sharing your adventure.
DoooooooD! Soo good to see you riding super hard again, absolutely smashing things bud, love it :)
First time your mom is on camera and it’s on Mother’s Day. It’s like it was planned. 😊
I definitely have you as a role model. You and Seth. Can't get better role models than the two of you.
I concur.

I want to know who else has attempted this river crossing and eaten it because I KNOW I'm not the only one... a show of hands please! 🙋🏻♂ hahaha
Been there, done that, same crossing. Many have tried, few have conquered.
I saw a 60+ year-old guy ride across it on fairly skinny tires going in the opposite direction. "No big deal," he says. Ha!
I haven't ridden across it but walked across it a couple months ago when it was in the 20s and it was over my knees. That was not a fun crossing.
I always walk across that crossing. Good on ya for riding it. It's slick! 😅 Lake Julia is awesome too. Everytime I'm down there, it's like I've got the place to myself.
Take your shoes off but leave your socks on. Makes it way easier. Some people gave me that advice at that very spot, and it’s good advixe
I have try it twice, and survive!
I remember when you start with your videos, I yhink Inwas one of your first subscribers... you have improved so much.. congrats and keep going, you have travel a HUGE path...enjoy your life.. its only once!!!

My friends and I used to ride up there and once everyone was ready we would have a MTN bike drag race to the end, great memories.
I have questions…. One glove? What is that other bike that you never ride? Are you a maintenance guru? What is your maintenance/cleanup in the van? Soooooo many more! Beer conversation perhaps someday!
Love, love, love this style of Sampler
Man that was fun start to finish. Felt like I was watching, A Day in the life of a mtn...no no.
Surviving the day with a mtn b....no no.
THRIVING the day with a mtn biker.
YES!
As usual, STS with the best mtb entertainment.
Hot tip! Check Sawyer Mini water filter. It is just awsome. I use it when hiking, camping biking now after this. Keep it up!
I have that one as well! Now that this one broke, maybe I'll dig that one out and start using it
Momma Sampler on Mother's Day. Right on.
Reasonover Creek Trail to Lake Julia is one of my favs in DuPont! Such a pretty day! 👌
I remember coming out on the top of Bridal Veil Falls, and quickly noped out of crossing that one. It's a long way to the bottom.
i’m one of those people who never rides across streams no matter how small. i don’t like dust hanging on to the drivetrain.
but i appreciate your stoke!!
Reasonover Creek is such a fun trail! I will have to check out Airstrip the next time I am in Dupont.
what trail is that at 27:00? Great vid!! Love DuPont - Been there a few times but managed to miss some of these trails.
Watching this now for the 2nd time today, 1st was on my phone, this time on the TV... kids are tuned in as well. Thanks for the video brudddah😎👍🏼
0:02 conformation Alexander is actually a bear! 🐻
Superb as ever, sorry I just laughed as you took an early bath 😂 happened to me with an overweight backpack on going bike camping. You can just picture me being held low due to a camping backpack in the water entangled with a bike on top of you. 😂

Of course you do cool stuff with your mom haha. I want to see you getting your mom out for a ride now! Seems like it would be a great video 😃
OMG I can't believe you rode across that creek!!! I've crossed this creek many times and you can barely walk your bike across because the rocks are so slippery. Dude, you are crazy!
Love the reasonover area rides!
Now you need to ride down Slippery Rock!!!
bringing the stoke as always! love it!
Great trails and riding and exploring that airstrip.
Also thanks for telling us where you pooped
Great vid, it shows that after all we all fall 😮. 😅
You can see that TV tower (KLOS) on the top on Mt. Pisgah from the end of the airstrip.
I love watching you ride it’s so entertaining also I was laughing my butt off watching your bike float down the river
I can't say I have ever considered if that would happen, but sure enough... the creek will take it right away lol
Love some DuPont!🤘Ride Hard!!!
Aw what a wonderful mothers day video
Which direction did you go on Burnt Mountain? Also, awesome job with the river crossing!
I did I always do the best of dupon every time I ride here is like 20 miles loop. Is the best you should try it..
Thanks for another (entertaining) video... that trail system looks amazing! Happy Mother's day to mommms. 😎👍🏼
That was so much stoke!
It looks quite fun, wrong trail and all.

You remind me of a movie star😅. I've just started watching your channel. Bless up
That was a sick ride, sucks about the phone great job making across the creek 💪🏾💯
Great video. 👍 My mom used to ride with me on a Giant brand MTB before MTBs were popular. She was always game even though I took her on some trails beyond her skills. She passed last year and is sorely missed, particularly on Mother’s Day.
Your stokeness is infectious!
Great video man! I just got a GoPro and looking to edit my videos, what is your recommendation? Thanks!
Come play bikes at Bikefest Bentonville in a couple weeks!!
Is that a little Australian accent I heard at 19:07, are there some Aussie vids coming up you're hiding from us? :D
I'm sure that's a great whitewater run at higher flows.
Man the second I saw that strip of asphalt, I knew exactly where you were.
Hey Alex, never seen you riding BC trails, Squamish, Pimberton, etc. More techy trails. Try it when you have a chance.
That dirt did look nice! Was there some moisture in the ground still? I'm praying for more rain in washington, all my loamers are drying up from the heat wave! 😢
Love ur vids what camera do you use
I want to learn how to manual this summer, gonna be awesome!!!
I think I'm gonna do the same! Maybe even make a video about it :P
Whaaaa?!!!!! You’ve never done that!? I CANNOT believe you made it across the stream.
Possibly the worst climb in Dupont is up that section of Corn Mill Shoals you did twice. 😂
Definitely a “ hold my beer” moment 😂
Oh, 100% lol
Dad always told me, "Don't do as I do, do as I SAY!"
awesome entertainment, these videos, Sampler is the best.
That's real mountain biking. Didn't Single Track Sampler used to show this kind of trail lonnnng ago ....? This is what it's about for most people, not giant gaps and drops.
I love a little burnt mountain
I know that Porta-John :) I too have been rescued.
I've had the same thing happen with my collapsible water filters,,,,ugh.
Wild ride. Thanks for sharing.
What a great video and brings a smile to my face. Such a simple fun solo adventure and even though it was a wrong turn going down that last rock section was sick
At around 10:00 Michael Jackson magically found his 2nd glove
Do you like the Joby Gorillapod?
What's not to like in a crazy dude riding his bike in silly dangerous speeds while yelling and chatting away :)
Here I am just stoked you and I have the same helmet😂
@19:40 Alex, really man?!?... after telling 20,000 viewers that everyone of your friends eats shit over this water crossing, mind you this includes MTB RUclipsrs as these are your friends also (I would expect Paul to eat shit but not Seth) you proceed to hard charge the falls with your phone in your pocket.
Alex you win the cell phone Darwin Awards!!!!! Congrats!!!!!
Amazing videos and I love the stoke, but is anyone else wondering why he’s riding like Michael Jackson with one glove?😂
I have had that experience crossing that river lol
It's comforting to know I'm not the only one :P
Can you let us know where we can buy your new tops from.I’m from the Uk and would love one of your new tops to ware when I’m riding my bike
Hey dude, you can pick it up here: cognativemtb.com/collections/the-sampler-collection
Your mom is so cute!!!!
I know what you mean about the catching a tire danger on Burnt Mtn. Result: radial head fracture!
Is that DuPont IN
This video is just beautiful 😍
Great video!
Enjoyed this one. Thanks alex.
Stoked you dig it Thomas, thanks!

I'm 2 minutes in and it jus hit me. Alex, why you start off the video saying you just took a dump in the woods and then riding with only one glove after....? hahahahahahahahahaha
Lol- I destroyed my iPhone on a ride once too…lesson learned-no more iPhone in the pockets on rides.🤦♂️
Live free ride hard and get soaked 😂
Best comment! 👌🏻🏅
Stop horsing around with the river, and go to mom! ;)
Howcome you where riding with one glove??
Do you plan on getting a new bike anytime soon?
Why does he only have one glove?
What do Michael Jackson and the Singletrack Sampler have in common? They both wear one glove for no apparent reason.
