My mom has made me soooo many elaborate costumes growing up. Betsy Ross with an American flag trick or treat bag, the Statue of Liberty...But my favorite costume was the simplest. I wore all black with a beret and penciled mustache and my mom made a painters pallet out of felt around my body. Looooved it!
Thank💞 you so much! I love your videos, & your energy! You always brighten my day, & say such nice things to your viewers☺! Sometimes, we just need a little reminder... it definately helps me remember. that I "am worth it" ! . 💖Thanks again! Your boys are so cute! ....Incuding Copper of course🤗.
How adorbs! I don't decorate for Halloween anymore as my kids are grown. Fave costume I made: A buffet table. Cut hole in box large enough for the head to fit. Head is the centerpiece. Use plastic dinnerware and utensils (glue everything down to your table) and don't forget to use a tablecloth! Child can wear anything underneath as box simply comes off for easy sitting and comfort!
Our son was 3. It was 1987. Ghostbusters was really big. You didn't have to see the movie to know about them. We got him black sweats. (So he could wear them all winter. No $ waste) I made a ghost with the red circle and line through it with felt. Pinned it on the front. We wrapped a square box in tin foil. Used on an old telephone cord and a painted paper towel roll. It was the first Halloween he asked to have a certain costume. My husband & I were struggling to make ends meet. But that is one of the best memories I have. I think our struggling years gave us so many life lessons and amazing times, we came together as a family and built our family bonds. His costume was a true mix of both parents ideas. It was awesome!
I remember one year as a kid, I was maybe 8... My dad put me in a clear garbage bag with holes for my arms and legs to poke through, filled it with balloons, and put a buncha curly ribbons in my hair. I was a bag of jelly beans!! And that, my friends, was the cutest DIY costume my dad ever dreamed up!
One year, my Mom dressed me up as an awesome Gypsy. She used her clothing, scarves, her jewelry, and painted my face. I won a contest at a family costume party, against lots of kids. I will never forget what she did for all five of us. She taught us to be frugal when needed, and the best part is to have fun. Now my three sons have all had homemade costumes as well. I feel like it means more to them, because we do it together, and have some bonding time. 🙏🏼🌻🧡🤎🎃
My favorite costume I made for my daughter was Jessie from Toy Story. I bought a white collar shirt and a pair of her jeans. The rest I made myself... felt for her "collar" piece and cuffs, I braided yarn for her hair and glued it to a cowboy hat, and cow print felt for the chaps. It was so cute!!
My daughter dressed as Astrid from How to Train Your Dragon a few years ago, using several things from Dollar Tree (shield, breastplate, fairy skirt, and bed socks to make faux shearling boots).
I make my kids costumes most of the time. Last year I made a Toothless Dragon costume using a black hoodie and adding wings. My 6 year old even helped. It’s so fun!
My mom made my older brother a dracula costume when he was about 6 or 7. Then I wore it around the same age then our younger sister wore it as well same age too. I love seeing it in each of us through the years.
The last several years I've just gotten my girls pajamas so they can pull double duty. Princess Sofia pajama dress + a dollar store tiara, full zip fleece footie cheetah jammies that had a hood with ears and some black eye liner for face paint, and last year one had a unicorn full zip and the other a sloth. So easy and I like that they're not JUST costumes. I did DIY some bat costumes a couple yers ago- black long sleeve fleece shirt and black leggings, inexpensive black fabric and safety pins to make wings and a $1 sparkly bat ear head band. Worked great, and again, pulled double duty!
@Doitonadime I had a....... do it on a dime marathon, been watching ALL THE VIDEOS SINCE THE BEGINING. Kathryn you are the friend I go to when I need inspiration. YOU ARE MY MENTOR You make me want to be a better, person, mom, friend, wife, and sister. Thank you
When my son was about 10(he's now 31) he was the " white power ranger" . Made the base with white sweatpants and shirt then use felt and puffy paint for the embellishments on his arms, legs, and waist. Made a hood out of stretchy fabric. It turned out great. Loved all your Halloween decorations!🎃
How cute. I made a lot of costumes for my daughter when she was little. My favorite was a cleopatra costume. I made a simple sleeveless long white shift dress added an old stretch gold belt, cheap black wig, simple head band fashioned with a medallion and spray painted gold. The finishing touches were gold spray painted flip flops with glued on jewels and a snake arm band which I made from a rubber snake, floral wire and spray painted gold. I remember my mom making my niece her first Halloween costume from two old white bath towels and the ear portion was made with left over pink satin material and pipe cleaners.
My favorite holiday. When I had my youngest I was overseas and Halloween was for all us foreigners. That year he was starting to crawl so I sewed a sea turtle outfit for him. Green leotards on legs and arms. It was adorable.
Work in a restaurant in costume??? We did it and so much fun! I was a flower in a brown pot. All out of fabric- yellow petals stood up on my head, from my neck to my knees was green for stem, lower half was brown for the pot. Most if not all was hand sewn by me and my mom. I was in my twenties. Great videos really enjoy them.
My favorite was the year my 18month old was a bee(hand-me-down costume) & I put on a wide brim hat with some netting to cover my face, wore some cloves and called myself a bee-keeper. 🙂
I dressed up as a soccer player one year. I'd played soccer a couple of years earlier so I still had my shin guards and a t-shirt from the team I had played on. It was a fun and quick costume and also free! Your DIYs are really cute and aww, baby Owen and little Carson! So adorable! 💖🤗🥰
7 y/o Grandson created 2 different versions of Ninja Kitty the past 2 years. Ninja with cat ears, tail & face. He's planning version 3 for this year. We get tails, headbands to make the ears with fabric from a tail to match, swords, throwing stars, etc props & lots of glow sticks for nunchucks & safety all from Dollar Tree.
My favorite costume I created was for my now 18 year old son when he was about 8. He loved bugs & said he wanted to be an entomologist. I found a kid size white lab coat, hot glued colorful fake insects all over it, added a name tag, he wore some nerd glasses and carried a magnifying glass and he was the cutest bug doctor ever! P.S. - he’s now switched over to computer science lol
My mom knows how to sew. So when my siblings and I were younger she would sew us some costumes. She made a leopard costume, an indian costume, she also made a hooded witch. I still have a few of them and I have dressed up my kids with them.
@@abbyhenderson9574 thats so cool. I remember all my friends would ask me where I bought my costume. I would say "my mom made it for me" and all I would see is their eyes go wide 😲😄
We are definitely kindred spirits. I made my sons' costumes for years. Hershey Kiss & M&M, Batman & Superman, Aladdin & Ninja, Clown & Mouse. They are 29 & 32 now so thanks for the memories!!
I dressed my daughter one year as a bag of jellybeans that was so cute... See through trash bag cut legs and arms out and then put small balloons in the bag and wrote Brocks Jellybeans 25cents a pound.. Then another year we dressed her as Esther from the Bible, her costume was made and she was beautiful, she won first place at Church..
Aaaah! Baby Owen as pizza?? I can't even! Too cute! Our kids are adults now, but we did homemade costumes every year. Such treasured memories of working together to make them. When my son was 10, we made a gorgeous barn own costume for him! Man, all the rows of artificial feathers sewn on that pillow case! I printed out a photo of a barn owl's face on card stock for his mask. He was so majestic! When our daughter was 7, we made her a bubble bather! We cut 2 holes into a small tote and put thin ribbon straps on it so she could wear it. We pinned tiny balloons all over her and she wore a shower cap and carried a scrub brush! I was a school librarian for 10 years and we always dressed up, so I was Miss Frizzle one year! That was so fun! I sure miss the costume days!
You have such a creative eye! I love that witch hat! We are going to make one. My daughter has been a witch for 4 years lol she loves them. My sister made her a beautiful broom that leaves a glitter trail everywhere she goes 😂🧙🧹last year I used dollar trees black and purple eye ball roses with spiders to make a wreath. And we hung a skeleton bat upside down in it.
I got a couple of those hanging gouls and I hung them zip ties off our apartment balcony. They look so great with the mesh blowing in the wind. So cheap and fun
Every year I would make my son's costume and my favorite was Capt Jack Sparrow! I thifted the clothes pieces, used felt from DT on some black rubber garden boots and hotglued some crochet black yarn for dreadlocks onto a handkerchief. With a sword from DT and some eyeliner makeup - he was a spitting image of Jack!
Love the witch hat idea!! So cute. My grandma used to make all of my costumes. Once I was a daisy, and another I was Holly Hobby... that dress was amazing! Memories
My favorite I made for my kids were M&M’s. So easy. Bought them all white sweatshirts and pants, bought felt and made round pillows (stuffed with stuffing) for front n back and printed out the cut out for M&M and sewed them to a elastic straps for shoulders. What was nice is I took straps off and they were used for decorative pillows for my boys beds and they jumped in bed with their sweats. So no loss of money, just well spent. 😉
One year my daughter was a 60's girl and we had so much fun making buttons to wear on her fringed vest. She LOVES 60's music so we made Monkee's buttons, I love Ringo, etc.
Love these ideas! Last year I made my son a firetruck from a cardboard box. We had so much fun painting it together and then I surprised him by adding twinkle lights all around the edge which totally made it pop. He loved it. This year, we won't be trick or treating as I don't think it's safe during the pandemic but we are planning a little contactless goodie bag pick up w a few friends who are also quarantining. Pretty cute idea en lieu of the real thing.
Your dollar tree diys always look so professional! Nothing worse than clicking on a cute diy thumbnail only to have the actual diys look “meh” at best. I would be happy to use any of these in my home. So cute!
We made an enderman costume for my son a few years ago. It was awesome! We taped little pink and purple led lights on him. Then we used el-wire for around the eyes. It was our best costume ever.
Halloween is my favorite holiday and most years I make my own costume. I have a tie for my most favorite costume. I was a pizza slice one year and can of soda the next.
I was a sofa chair one year for Halloween. I was able to fit in between a beach looking chair and then my mom got sheets for the chair and a pillow with a cut out for my head.
My favorite costume I made was a pumpkin. I used orange felt and white pillow stuffing to make it puffy and then made a cap for his he’s from a circle of orange felt and one of green fekt, sewed then and stuffed it. The I added a stem on top made from a stick wrapped on a little batting and covered it with brown burlap! He looked adorable!
Last year was the first time our family did a theme. We went as the Wizard of Oz characters. We were inspired to because I scored a Dorothy costume for 90% off at Target the year before along with several other dresses for just $3 each! I covered a pair of her old jelly shoes from the summer in modpodge and red glitter (thank goodness it just needed to last a couple nights lol). I then went on a quest at Goodwill for a pink dress and found the perfect one along with a crinoline. The dress was an old bridesmaid dress in millennial pink, silk under and sheer chiffon on top. I found it online and it was originally $400 and I paid $5.75. I then got a bunch of AB crystal in various sizes. I laid out starburst design on the other layer and glued them with E6000. I then sewed fairy lights onto the outside of the crinoline which I sandwiched between the dress layers so you could see it twinkle. I made a wand and crown with a dowel rod and glitter poster board. I also glued a couple butterflies to the dress. It was dazzling, a showstopper! My son wanted to be the Wizard. He wore black slacks, white button up shirt, black dress shoes, and a top hat. I found a gaudy green blazer made by Chicos a couple decades ago. I put it on my son and it was huge on him but I pinned and tucked until I reworked it into a tuxedo like jacket. I have very limited sewing skills but it worked well. For my husband I bought corduroy pants, a plaid shirt, and straw hat for the Scarecrow. I then cut up some of my son's old tees and sewed them on as patches. Tucked in hay around cuffs and back of neck. For our golden retriever/german shepard mix dog I got a lion's mane. It was hands down the best Halloween yet and I look forward to many more. So sad we can not participate this year but I am sure we will still dress up at home. Stay safe everyone.
Another good way to diy a kid's Halloween costume is pajamas! Last year my preschooler wanted to be Batman. Unfortunately, many of the pre-made costumes were above our budget. Lucky for me, I found some long flannel batman pajamas for only $15. The nice thing is he was able to wear them at bedtime for another 5 months! Well worth the spend. In the party section of Walmart, I found a Batman mask and cape combo- cloth, not plastic- which were only like $6-$7 to finish off the look. This year is the same way with our Scooby Doo look!
Back in the dark ages (not going to say how long ago it was!) it was predicted it would be pouring rain on Halloween. Not to be deterred, I wore my old red raincoat which had come with a fireman like hat, black gum boots and I hauled around a hose. I managed to score a good haul and stayed dry. I must have been about eight at the time.
I love the retro spoopy signs they have this year! Welcome to Dog Mom life- where removing suspicious objects from the dog's mouth is a daily occurrence.
I’m going as a Thesaurus for Trunk or Treat. A T-Rex jammy on the bottom and Harry Potter glasses with mortar board cap. It will say ‘Felicitous All Hallows’ Eve’
We made our boy a boa constrictor costume for a school party.. Gotta find some pics... Sure he looked more like a humanoid anole, but he loved it. Used a green mattress cover for the majority of the body and brown felt for scale pattern on back. Both sourced from a dollar store.
Our Dollar Tree is large like yours so it is difficult to find many of the items you use in your videos. I use to make my son's costumes. One year he went as a black (sweats) bug with fluorescent green spots, wings and antenna. Another year he wanted to be Willy the whale from Save Willy. Looked a little more like a shark 😅 but he was happy. Another year he wanted to be Ash from Pokémon so I made him the costumes. I use to make costumes for my nieces when they were younger. Thanks for the Great memories ❤
Great crafts!.. We love cutting jack-o-lanterns from pumpkins.. .. We always do one each a few days before Halloween and decorate the living/dining room! We always have a nice jack-o-lantern to welcome the family ghosts visiting and a scarry one to keep away the bad ghosts. Then on All Hallows Night (Samhain) we have a family dinner with an extra place set for family ghosts visiting! (because the vail between the world of the living and the dead is thin on that night.. And allows ghosts to cross into our world. That is the reason for dressing up when out on the streets--to make the bad ghosts think you are also one, so they leave you alone). After dinner is games and a children's Halloween film. In the UK the kids do "trick or treating"..and Halloween parties.. But because Samhain isn't a tradition in Germany, where we live now, so we can't do it here.. But the kids still have fun with what we do at home! Samhain is my favorite Celtic /Gaelic festival. :)
ive always made costmes with t-shirts and felt. we were salt, pepper and paprika one year another year we were sully, mike and boo then we were moana, heart of the ocean, tafiti and maui and then pooh, tigger, piglet and eeyore
My favorite for me was dressing up as a pirate - complete with stubble on my face, vaseline first & then coffee grounds. I won my 6th-grade class prize that year!
This was super cute!!! 🎃Love the spiders 🕷 on the door and the count down sign is brilliant!! Just love the dollar tree!! Thanks for the inspiration!!! 🤗🌻🤗
I don't think I've ever left a comment over the years to your awesome DIY vids but I will usually make a few DIY's from each of your videos when I see them. They're just too incredible not to do 🙏👍
My mom has made me soooo many elaborate costumes growing up. Betsy Ross with an American flag trick or treat bag, the Statue of Liberty...But my favorite costume was the simplest. I wore all black with a beret and penciled mustache and my mom made a painters pallet out of felt around my body. Looooved it!
When my daughter (now 20) was a baby I put her in a red sweatshirt and pants and then made a red cone hat and she was a red crayon.
Aww 💕 how cute 💟
My mom made me a genie costume when I was about 5. Even now when I look back at it, she outdid herself! I loved that costume so much!
I love how your content is great and straight to the point in a short amount of time. Keep up the great work.
Daily reminder: you’re beautiful, don’t let anyone ever bring you down. 💖🌸💫

My favorite costume as a child was Pippi Longstocking, I even weaved a coat-hanger through my pigtails so they would stay sticking out. 😂
Owen the pizza is about the cutest thing I've ever seen! 🍕

But that is one of the best memories I have. I think our struggling years gave us so many life lessons and amazing times, we came together as a family and built our family bonds. His costume was a true mix of both parents ideas. It was awesome!
I remember one year as a kid, I was maybe 8... The opposing command hooks for hanging things is brilliant, Kathryn!
We dressed our daughter up like a little old crazy cat lady last year. It was so fun making the walker and the kitties. I love diy costumes!
Your dollar tree diys always look so professional! Nothing worse than clicking on a cute diy thumbnail only to have the actual diys look “meh” at best. I would be happy to use any of these in my home. So cute!
i love the witch legs in the plant!
That dress is my most favorite piece you have ever made. Love it!

The turtle and pizza costumes were soooo adorable, good job mom! And I loved the door. Definitely doing that!
I stock up on costumes for gifting dress up boxes for birthdays and Christmas gifts. These new masks are going to be great.
I used to sew all my kids Halloween costumes. I made Barney one year, that was challenging, but we had fun doing it!
So glad these are budget friendly crafts. I can do a few of these on my budget. 🎃
Aww, thank you, for sharing the photos of you and your brother. Soo cute! 🎃 😇 🧡🖤 Happy October!
Carlson is so big!!!! I love his suggestion too. 👏👏👏
Love the way you did your door! I made a cow costume one time for my infant daughter!
My favorite so far was a Toy Story theme, my sons were the dinosaur and Woody, while my husband and I made Mr and Mrs Potato Head made out of felt!
I love every single one of those crafts!! Awww....Baby Owen. Adorable!!
My favorite time of the year! Love how the front came out
When my kids were little I sewed my son a Dalmatian costume and my daughter a mouse. I was a tiger. Memories ❤️❤️.
ive always made costmes with t-shirts and felt.
we were salt, pepper and paprika one year
another year we were sully, mike and boo
then we were moana, heart of the ocean, tafiti and maui
and then pooh, tigger, piglet and eeyore
My favorite for me was dressing up as a pirate - complete with stubble on my face, vaseline first & then coffee grounds. I won my 6th-grade class prize that year!
That's so clever!
A witch at the age of 16. Loved it
I dressed up violet Baudelaire from a series of unfortunate events a while back. I got my friends to be klaus and sunny. SOO much fun
Sweet memories of you and your brother 😘

I was rapunzel when I was 8. My mom used yard to make a long braid and attached it to a headband!
I AM SO PUMPED UP FOR THIS! CAN'T WAIT FOR THE CHRISTMAS VIDS TO COME!
I don't think I've ever left a comment over the years to your awesome DIY vids but I will usually make a few DIY's from each of your videos when I see them. They're just too incredible not to do 🙏👍
