Happy New to you both! While "clean as you go" is the most advantageous way to treat your "flat top friend", I think you'll agree that there are just some foods and/or circumstances where it's not easy to do. Sometimes you just have to eat before the food goes cold, or the guests devour it all! It's great that you've shared the two scenarios, and folks are now knowledgeable on how to treat the clean up in both cases. Thanks for all you both do!
Thanks for putting out great griddle videos. Your meals and like this one - maintenance is very important. I’m restoring a neglected commercial 24” griddle w/ 2 burners and once the weather improves I’ll finish it. And learning from your videos, I’m already confident that I can properly season it, clean it and make some awesome meals! Keep up the great content!
I always "Clean as I Go" and I would bet you could not wait to do this video to clean your griddle as you do the same. Reminds me of that famous Navy Slogan, the one that says "It's not just a job, it's an adventure" so important for the mind set in the Navy, but it can be applied to so many other areas. The satisfaction and gratification that comes with cleaning the griddle right away is the way to go to me. I know for the purpose of this video you let it sit there dirty but great job on the video instructions of how to clean it properly when it comes to sticky, on the sugary honey side of food cooked on the griddle. With that being said I would have ended this video with "Now that the griddle is clean I'm hungry, let's cook something" Great Job!
I just got my much anticipated griddle this past week. Did a teriyaki stir fry last night and though I tried to clean the griddle, my efforts were less than rewarding. This video will allow me to clean it with confidence this afternoon. Thanks for the video!
All great tips, Neal! I love cleaning my griddle and doing it immediately. I find it a little therapeutic. I'm totally fine with my food being room temp or a little warmer. I'm not gonna try to eat food that's gonna burn my mouth. Fantastic video my friend. 👍
Always, always a good reminder and a super visual of how to clean the griddle. Heat is the critical component, with the judicious use of water as you point out. But this really speaks to "clean as you go" which is one of the first things I learned and always employ from your videos. I do have silicone griddle gloves as I seem to always touch the sides and they work.
Absolutely..when I filmed how to re season a Blackstone griddle I knew better, talked about it and still burnt the crap out of my thumb...oil got pushed to the corner and splashed over my spatula...bam...deep fried thumb
If i learned a valuable leason from your teachings, its clean as you go. And this episode was great in case i walk away from it after and went inside to eat. Great episode y’all, Cheers 👊🏼😎🤙🏼
I work with a lot of Thai Sweet Chili sauce, BBQ, sauces, etc... An effective way to clean my Adventure Ready 22" Griddle with deep fryer combo is to lay 2 paper towels on the griddle, saturate with water, close the lid and fry the towels, creating a ton on steam. While the towels are hot & steamy, I use one of my Blackstone spatulas to fold the towels, and scrape the surface. fold the towels, toss in trash. When the griddle is cool'ish... I oil it with EVOO, then burn it off. Works well for my smaller griddle👍 Started using a flat-top at 14 years old... 57 now EDIT: when I strip my griddle, I use the lava grill brick I picked up from restaurant supply house, then I re-season the flap-top. The lava brick is cheap and lasts forever!
Thanks for the helpful information,I just got a 3 burner portable gas griddle for Christmas and have cooked on it 3 times already and just trying to find out the best way to clean it.this is my first griddle and I want it to last for a long time
Another great video, thanks for sharing, your video are EXTREMELY helpful. An makin me a better griller. Just got done making chicken cheese (steaks) and smash burgers
I use a small bacon press on folded paper towels to do the cleaning. Much more surface contact. When towel gets nasty, turn folded towel over for a clean side.
Excellent "trips" Neil (isn't that what you used to say, tips and tricks?😉). A "trip" I use - Being from cold North Dakota, and paranoid about warping my griddle. I fill my water bottle with hot water when I have to so some intense steaming/cleaning.
Another great video. I have been following you for a while now I hope to get my first griddle in a couple months. I’m wanting to do something like a Panda Express Beijing Beef and was wondering how hard the clean up would be. 👍🏻
Awesome! Thank you Donald...i will say clean as you go and it will be 100 easier..Move food to one side and scrape that junk off...move food over and same thing...also keep the mess limited to at least half the griddle..
Nice tips. I'm sending this vid to my Brother-in-Law too. His main issue is usually rust (the Blackstone is built into the outdoor kitchen granite counter)
@@TheFlatTopKing I will do that when I go down to visit in a week or so, or maybe I can get him to send me a decent pic or two. Griddle Group the best way to post? I hate FB and haven't been on it in years, but Sister does.
Brilliant, I’m going to make it my mission this year to purchase a flat top griddle, where from ? Who knows, i might even go down the import mode, i need one really bad😂👍👍👍😎🏴
I clean as soon as the cook over. Question:I noticed you have the same drain as I do. You ever have problems with the liner not catching all the liquids? Maybe surface tension keeping things from dripping??
YES...somehow if you adjust it makes it not sit perfectly but helps a lot..it a fit that makes it sit upwards...hard to explain but it helps a lot...the original way is horrible
@@TheFlatTopKing Maybe I'm an idiot. I have my trap hanging on the actual cooktop. Yours seems to be on the base. I have the 22" so not sure if that makes any difference.
@@WTLowery82 it may be different. I have a small slit where the metal is supposed to go. Fits right in but sags. So there is a way to put the metal in there that keeps it propped up. It helps.
Small amounts...I like to think of taking the griddle into 4 sections....and careful not to over water...you can always add more to a section...and lastly...allow the griddle to cool some...no need to add water when the griddle is 550 degrees...
or off..coming down from the heat...just hot enough however you do it to keep those sugars from harding up....and griddle is hot enough to create steam
I don't have a flat top I do mine on lodge cast iron flat griddle.. question. Skillet Dutch oven whatever after eating and it is cooled off I scrape out the new stuff and put water in it heated up to a boil done released. I'm curious if you had a level Grill and covered up your drain hole you could flood your griddle turn the heat on and boil it clean while scraping? I don't have one to try a 5 minutes simmer first.
Well I Definitely wouldn't recommend it..where would the water go afterwards...plus just getting the water out there...but if there is a will there is a way...
Well kinda..i mean my hot water runs about 110 degrees...water outside that day was roughly 60 degrees...thats not really worth it...the grill was over 450 so not really that big...now maybe 33 degrees might...
Your paper towel was still dirty when you finished. I’m new to griddles but I’m experienced with cast iron. I don’t season till my paper towel is clean.
This is all fine Neal for Blackstone and Camp Chef griddles, but what about those of us that use Pit Boss Ultimate griddles. I know better than to use metal spatulas on this griddle, but do all the "new bees" know this?
It all depends on what you are cooking...hibachi...wings...pepper steak..things with a sauce. Or grilled cheese or quesadillas...just oil and your done...just like door cooking different things require different cleanings
I always clean as soon as the food comes off my griddle, just easier. I also use a squirt bottle of hot water :)
Perfect...
My plan of attack every time I use my griddle::))

So as you are cleaning, you have it at low heat?
or off..coming down from the heat...just hot enough however you do it to keep those sugars from harding up....and griddle is hot enough to create steam
At some point will the water take off seasoning?
No. But you have to make sure it’s dry before adding more water. No difference than washing cast iron.
