  • The truth about Takeshi's Castle winners is finally revealed in this "Shocking" video. Well not shocking if you ever watched the original show. In this video I, your awkward host and seminal Takeshi's Castle Fan, breakdown every winner that the show ever saw and finally answer questions.
    Did the show only have 8 winners?
    Have more people been to the moon than won on the show?
    What happens when the host wins the game?
    This and more will all be revealed in this special video essay.
    And yes I made a video just to disprove a meme. I have no life. Now that I've made the joke it defeats the purpose of making it yourself :) .
    I should note that I'm not a professional youtuber and this video was really made for fun and to disprove longstanding misconceptions about Takeshi's Castle. Healthy criticism is fine but please be kind.
    If you want to know more about Takeshi's Castle feel free to ask any questions you may have in the comments below. If you want to see more of these type of videos about Takeshi's Castle, Ultra Quiz or any number of Japanese game shows, please make your voice heard.

    Have you ever heard of a British TV show called "Clive James in Japan"? Its a docu series about his time in japan and one episode was about him being a contestant on Takeshi's Castle, loads of behind the scanes stuff.

      Hi Larry, I did see the special at one point because it was online. It was cool seeing behind the scenes. He was in episode 42 which was a parent/child tournament. I suspect he was meant to be in episode 41 which was a celebrities special. Some of the stuff he said was inaccurate, though I bet it was for joke's sake. Let me know if you need anymore info.

      I think it's more likely that it was very cheap, rather than "cultural impact". Some of the UK's lowest budget channels showed loads of Takeshi's Castle. A 1980s gameshow that's already earned it's pay in Japan, in a foreign language that basically nobody outside Japan speaks, it's not gonna bring a high price. That's probably why it's been everywhere.

    The real intro has so much drama. In the UK edition they made no attempt at that, a lot of the story that seems to be in the Japanese original was cut, no-one had a clue what was going on, and we all just sat back and laughed as people fell over, a whole generation of kids introduced to the legend that is Craig Charles through the narration.

    A generation of kids like me (from India) watched Takeshi castle in 2005-2008 (some still do watch re-uploaded archives) as it was a tv show over which a famous comedian did funny commentary, and it became like a cult. Was always curious as a kid how the show's winnings and technicalities took place because in majority the show just ended with credits rolling and rarely did we get to ever watch an episode where someone did win, the objective of the show was never clear 😂 but was all in all a wholesome experience watching how much the participants had fun playing it.

    Craig Charles didn't even notice when they had a winner one time, he was so used to them failing..! It's great that people like yourself do the hard work of cataloguing and archiving this stuff. One thing I always wondered; in the British coverage Craig would say after each game that ' go through to the next game' but that always seemed like it must be wrong; almost every contestant failed almost every challenge and yet more than half seemed to make it through every time. Sometimes the footage showed more people failing than would be possible..! Did every contestant play every game, or was it just a subset of them on each challenge?

    • @notundercovercop327
      @notundercovercop327  Год назад +54

      Thank you, I am passionate. This comes straight from the producer of the British edit, they didn't have any notes or any numbers from the original series. Everything they had was what was on the screen. The numbers Craig said were made up. Sorry if it ruins the illusion. How it worked on the show is everyone would do the opening game (wall, perfection, ect). The people who made it through that would then be on line to play the next game. Once they were satisfied and had enough footage, then they would move to the next game. Average constant who made the cart battle usually played 3-4 games, including the opening game.

    Takeshi's Castle is just awesome. In Latin America we got a humorous version (for its time, given the dub was pretty much racist jokes), but everyone could see the challenges were fun and seeing the contestants beat/fail them was the real drawing point of it. I remember seeing only one episode with someone defeating Takeshi, so I too never thought anyone else had won the final prize. But seeing the build up of the army slowly making their way up to the castle as more and more soldiers sacrificed themselves for it, was simply magical.

    Loved the analysis snd you did a good job talking about the show. I knew there were more than 8 winners but not the fighting spirit award.
    To help, my understanding is during the paper disc and tank era, if Takeshi’s disk was punched out everyone got to share the prize. The laser era was easier as they could program them for each cart so it could be identified.
    I do find it funny though the first cart win was during Takeshi Kitano’s ban from TV for violating codes. (The had an actor with a Takeshi head then).
    Would love to watch more.

    • @notundercovercop327
      @notundercovercop327  2 года назад +1

      Thank you for the compliment. Your understanding is correct. During the water gun battle, all players would share in the prize if Takeshi was defeated. During the laser gun battle it went to whoever fired the winning shot. Unless it was during a parent/kid episode in which case the parent would get their kid's share of the money (kids can't win large sums of money on Japanese game shows). I hope to do more Takeshi related content in the future (I know way too damn much about that show).
