Ali wasn't helpless on the ropes waiting for Foreman to punch himself out, he was peppering Foreman all fight and had him hurt more than once. He threw a lot of punches and did a lot of damage all fight, every time Foreman dropped his hands and threw a few punches to the body Ali would respond with a hard right to the face

Foreman big problem in this fight was Ali had already beat the baddest man ever in Sonny Liston so George was a baby to him and wasnt intimidated, plus Ali still had some quickness and was able to hit Foreman with good shots and let George tire himself out with rope a dope.
