I watched this video for my 99 e350 before I even opened it up to see why my wipers stopped working. I could hear the motor running so i just figured this had to be it. Ordered that clip off ebay the same day ($10.88), fixed it just now. This video was EXACTLY what I needed to get it done! My linkage actually had that replacement clip on it already, but it was stretched open. Thanks so much man, exactly what I needed!
Just want to drop in and say THANKS for this video. It empowered me to repair the van all by myself while the hubby was away!!! Fixed the other wiper wash issue while I was at it. 😁

OMG my head just grew 10 inches larger. I hope the video helped out. I am just a regular "Joe" no one special. I struggled with this stupid thing for hours. When i figured it out, it just made sense to pass it on to others.
Excellent video! I'm going to try to do my repair without removing the linkage system, wish me luck! However, if I have to go deeper into the repair, this is a great video as a guide. Thanks!
Thanks, great video! Huge help! Who'd have thought something so small would be such a huge PITA! (Seen your comment on Amazon btw, which led me to this, but got lucky at my local dealership!) Fun fact: (that may have already been mentioned, but) this clip was used on most all Ford E series from 92 - 2016, so pretty universal. Thanks again good sir 👍
My windshield wipers stopped working today. I can here the motor still working so I’m guessing it’s the same problem. Linkage disconnected. I’m sure glad I found your video cuz I’ve never had to mess with them before so I had no clue where to begin. Now I’m confident I can repair it. Thank you for having a very detailed fix. Great job
Now if you had a video on diagnosing/replacing the evap canister and or vent solenoid. I wouldn’t have to do some guess work. I can’t find a video with the same van we have
So glad it was able to help you out. I could have just slipped the clip on, but filming that would have been impossible. The full disassembly of the wiper system also allows for other fixes such as motor and wiper rods/ transmission. Thanks for the nice comment.
Thank You from the bottom of my heart for this no non sense video. You guys showed Napa, and 2 Ford dealers whats up. No one could find that clip. I showed all 3 THIS video. the 3 Ford place had it. Thank You Again! 2002 Ford Econoline Company Van with 198km beat to hell and back. I keep the old lady on the road.
Just did they repair yesterday. I found if you hold the motor on the linkage arm and angle clockwise a bit you can use the lip of the sheetmetal opening to rest the end of linkage bar just past the pin and then one one good push and it snaps in . easy peasy.
That is awesome buddy. So glad to hear that you took on the job yourself. Just the feeling of accomplishment is payment in itself. thanks for the comment.
Thanks for the video! My 93 3/4 ton Econoline wipers stopped working. I could hear the motor turning, but no wiper motion. I figured it's the linkage, found your video online, next I'm going to make the repair. It's great to know what I need to do, step by step!
It makes any job easier even if you are a gear head to be able to watch someone do it first. Kinda gives you a heads up on potential issues. thanks for leaving a comment Glassman
Thank you! Thank you! Thank You!! We have an E350 15 passenger and this happened to ours yesterday. Bummer that I have to wait till Monday for the dealer to open. Your video saved me some frustration and fear. Your American viewer in Central Square, NY.
I was able to jerry rig mine to work till I got the part shipped from Amazon. A real pain for such a small piece. Thank you for the comment. Will you be doing the job yourself?
Hi thanks for the info.. Do you know where I can get that clip, I have ordered it twice, the first time it was the wrong clip, and the second one looks just like the one in this video but half the size. I have called many parts store that say they don't have n there data base.
Great video, just finished mine up. Did you just take it all off to show everyone what they parts inside looked like? I was able to do it by only taking off the driver side vent and weather stripping. Thanks again, very informative.
Yes I did. It allows everyone to see the bigger picture. Some of the shots would have been impossible if the unit was repaired inside the van. It is a relatively easy job just the same.
Also have an 07 and mine just broke. I opened it up and mine is a worn bushing on the passenger wiper side. I believe you can buy and replace just the bushings, but because my clip (the one that broke off of yours)seems to be intact, how might I remove it to get out the motor? Do I have to reach underneath motor to snap out pin? Or perhaps just pry out motor, which will break pin then replace to a new clip? Thanks
Awesome. So glad that I was able to help ya out. Most people can do the job. They just need a quick video to give them an idea of what they are going to be in for. That clip was a pain to find on Amazon LOL.
Remove the small clip. Unbolt everything and let it fall. then just turn the entire assembly until you can see the clip that hold the bar to the motor.
i think i ordered mine from Amazon.com "Ford Genuine Parts - Clip - Special (E3TZ-17531-A)" When the list of sellers pops up look for the one with the picture of the packaging with the part number in a OEM ford plastic bag. I think the seller is called "The Ford Store". hopes this helps you out.
My 2007 e-350 makes a buzzing sound when I activate the wipers. The wipers will go between 1/2 and one full revolution and then stop in the middle of the windshield and the motor quits and stops "buzzing"....Is this a fail-safe to keep the motor from burning up because the Transmission/linkage has locked up or is it that the Motor is worn out and lost it's torque?
I removed the motor, plugged it back in, turned it on and it was fairly easy to stop the motor's arm and make the motor "buzz" and quit...Shouldn't it have more torque than that?
***Remove the plastic and reach in and feel if the joints under each of the 2 wiper connections have play to decide if you should order the linkage or just the clip. Half the time it's not the clip it's the first joint beneath it on the linkage itself. So for anyone installing a BRAND NEW *wiper linkage/transmission* make sure you put the 4 bolts in correctly the first time you will need a hand holding it up straight as it takes a drill and some force to tap it right the first time. The screw holes come unthreaded as you will the first time you install it. Don't make the mistake I did and mess up a couple holes and have to use different screws altogether. Also the clip comes preinstalled on the new one (Dorman). Getting it to snap in place was next to impossible without bending/damaging the wiper arm. A little WD-40 and a small piece of 2x4 wood under the arm at the joint finally got it through. You have to push down on the motor hard but you will hear that firm click. The arm should not easily pull back down. You basically have to push the metal clip far down enough for it to catch but it certainly was not as easy as it was for you in the video! 3 guys couldn't do it, maybe the colder weather played a factor making the metal more resistant. Also don't make the mistake I did and put the wipers on the connections too deeply or you will crack your plastic cover! Make a mental note of how deep it currently sits. Remember how deep the fluid hoses sit too so you're not forcing it too far. Pro Tip: After you clean your glass use rubbing alcohol across your windshield to increase the life of all wipers by 50% I'd love to know how to replace the thin long worn off foam piece on the plastic covers where they attach to the windshield, any ideas?
VERY GOOD AN A GREat help to me With my 1996 E350 VAN,THAT CLIP INFO WAS THE BEST Way to do it. at $12.00 a new clip " do not reuse the old one "it will fail".
I heard a pop just the other day and the wipers stopped working. Now sweating the repair when I found this video. Fantastic and big thanks for putting this up. One question, I have a 1994 Econoline 250 (125k actual miles), what are the odds the linkage clip is the same?
I bought the clip thru Amazon, but when I took the linkage off I discovered a bushing was worn out on one of the arms and that allowed the arm to fall off. The "clipped" end of the transmission was still on the wiper motor. (The linkage assembly is also called the "transmission". ) After searching online I couldn't find an exact replacement for the bushings. Went to NAPA but they couldn't match anything up.They did have a transmission match and though I didn't want to spend that much money I went ahead and bought it. Within 2 hours I had the new linkage installed, the motor hooked up and the thing wiping. Things I found on my van. There was a heavy duty plastic sheet (maybe 8mil) glued down over the wiper motor to insure no water could get at it. It must be a regular Ford part cause it had a white stenciled number. Once I tore it off it was ruined so I replaced it with a 6 mil piece of black visqueen glued down with contact cement. The new transmission came with a clip already installed. (Wiper transmission NAPA part 819-6993). I could have saved some money buying it online but that would require a wait and I didn't want to leave the thing tore apart as I need the van day to day. Also some reviews on the Dorman replacement transmission said it doesn't give the same movement as the original and that the wipers didn't cover as wide an area. Whether this is true or not I didn't want to wait as every day delayed is just more time to lose something... Snapping the clip into the wiper motor arm is done blind so you have to feel the arm end and motor post for alignment and then give it a good pull. My first try I thought I had it but evidently not as the arm came off after 6 or seven revolutions. I set it up again and really pulled on it and could feel the snap. It's working fine so far.
