marwyn is actually the arch maester of the higher mysteries. they mockingly call him mage because of his interest in magic, though that isnt necessarily what the link, rod, and mask represent. magic is one of many higher mysteries to be sure, thus falling under its umbrella.
I swear: GoT never gives me chills until I hear one of these theory videos. I don't know if it's the voice or the images but something hovers over this channel and it gives me the heebiest of jeebies.
Another top notch video. I love the fact that you aren’t shy to report on the darkest aspects of GOT. The darkest aspects are the most interesting to me. Well done.
Mirri Maz Dur's spell didn't bring hatch the dragons. It was Dany, who likely was taught the spell by Quaithe in her dreams. Mirri was just a blood sacrifice in Dany's spell.
I like the fact that to go forward you have to go back to the very beginning of the Bloodstone Emperor and church of starry wisdom from the shadowlands. A wonderful idea that Qyburn, Mirri and Marwyn may all be connected possibly fulfilling a prophecy. Mirri said she paid a great price possibly her own death to learn necromancy.
Neo Riv I’d highly disagree. It’s not as good as season 1 but if you’re giving up on the show and the characters you’ve grown attached to just because there isn’t enough tits or violence you should leave.
IOIAF: I love your theories and your presentation, especially regarding the grand game and starry wisdom. I know you love Dune, but please keep these GRRM videos coming. Have you thought much about the Winds Of Winter sample chapters yet?
Seems more reasonable to say Martin used the character mentioned earlier in the books to serve a new role he made up for the books. Also, her learning from a maester makes it more reasonable to the reader that Daenerys would let her try and heal Drogo. Just because they met the archmaester and they all like magic doesnt mean it is reasonable to think they all practice it the same way.
i think what mirri did to drogo is to make his body alive but without his soul. she probably knew how to properly bring people back from the dead but that wasn't her intention. she was angry with the dothraki and she basically killed their khal. she was just pretending to help dany but she was firm in her goal for revenge.
I haven't commented in a long time! I've still been watching and liking your vids. I'm so ready for WINDS OF WINTER!!!📚You're one of a kind Quinn!!!💕😎🐺🐲❄🔥👍
Wait - don't we already know from the supplemental materials that Asshai is technically IN the Shadowlands and that the Shadowlands typically refers to the dark lands outside of Asshai but on the same peninsula - including Stygai? It could be I'm getting my book lore and the stuff from the CK2 mod's suppositions mixed up.
How did Mirri pay dearly for the lesson from the necromancer? Did she pay with her life? And was Mirri resurrected, and by Dany burning Mirri it was her CERTAIN death?
So curious to see if the "important men" that were present at the first meeting of Dany and Drogo at Drogo's manse in book 1 are ever revisited. I remember GRRM made a point to note that there were only men there, no women. I have wondered if Marwyn, qyburn or Euron were some of them.
Another great videos Quinn. Do you have a video looking at the Shadow and Stygai? City of corpses, Heart of Darkness... makes me think it's maybe a parallel to the heart of winter and the others
Strongly disagree with this one. 1: Qyburn has been established as the kind of person who will not balk at social taboos or controversial pursuits. Since Marwyn is the archmaester assigned to/entrusted with the Valyrian steel mask (possible RL analogue: the foremost professor of occultism?), he may have been the ultimate overseer of Qyburn's studies in that field, just like someone in Maester Luwin's student days oversaw Luwin's efforts to earn a Valyrian steel link to his chain. Is there anything beyond this hierarchy (established in Game of of Thrones and Feast for Crows) that ties Qyburn and Marwyn in any way beyond this professor-student setup? Both are fascinated by the occult, yet Marwyn travels across the world while Qyburn stays in Westeros, serving as military surgeon to scum like the Brave Companions. Sounds like an acknowledged professional vs. exiled wanna-be. 2: Mirri Maz Duur was a physician/midwife/healer (you tell me what's the closest analogue for "godswife of the lamb people"). Some exotic western sage is willing to teach her about anatomy? Why wouldn't she take him up on the offer? She can learn more about curing people through such a shocking display. As for Drogo & the closing events of GoT.... She was someone who had EVERY reason to want revenge on an army of genocidal, slaving rapists. She had some knowledge of blood magic - possibly as an accepted part of being a "godswife" (aka. if one can't hack that part of the job, one will not be ordained/acknowledged as a godswife). If this is an accurate reading of the characer (and every line she ever featured in supports it: as a side character whose death was written by 1996, what have we heard of her that contradicts this?), she lied to Dany and took her vengeance with Daenerys' unwitting help. No necromancy or half-zombies, just a chance for a learned woman to "poison" the Dothraki version of Genghis Khan so that he would die stillborn, rather than do what Dothraki culture would celebrate him doing (aka. lead a horde of murderers to rape, kill, enslave, burn, destroy etc. for potentially an entire lifetime). Two different characters, both of whom have strong personal reasons for their actions. Marwyn is the more enigmatic one, the only one out of the three who's driven by a larger ambition/a more selfless awareness of larger events. And even that's mainly because we have only vanishingly few glimpses into his thought processes, compared to Mirri or Qyburn.
"Both are fascinated by the occult, yet Marwyn travels across the world while Qyburn stays in Westeros, serving as military surgeon to scum like the Brave Companions." The Brave Companions are from across the Narrow Sea. They only came to Westeros because Tywin hired them to fight for him in the War of Five Kings. So Qyburn was abroad, and he only came back because the sellsword company came to Westeros, and he would have gone back beyond the Narrow Sea when the war was over except the company was destroyed and Qyburn found the patronage of the Lannisters. We don't know how long he's been with the Brave Companions, where else he's been or what else he did in exile.
It seems possible that Qyburn gave Jaime the dreamwine and then Marwyn used the glass candle to send Jaime the dream where Cersei abandons him and Brienne sticks by him. We know glass candles can send dreams.
U thunk you are right about Mirri Maz Duur being at the right place at the right time. Why else would a powerful sorcerer like her be in a small Milkmen town tempel serving as healer? (This argument i think i have from Preston Jacobs)
In Lovecraft and in GRRM, it's "Church of Starry Wisdom", not "Church of the Starry Wisdom". I know it really doesn't matter, just thought I'd mention it. Great video.
See, that ONE SCENE made me quit on GRRMs books. He STILL hasn't moved his GD ice zombies south of the Wall, but he is throwing in 50 MORE subplots into a series which has far too many subplots? Maybe if he only had to write for his core characters, he'd go a bit faster in his writing. So I don't give a damn about Marwyn. I hate Marwyn. His inclusion into the series is a woeful mistake because the series is already overwritten.
I'm boycotting and I'll be at for a different reason. I started these books in 1996 when the first edition came out. I didn't even read all of the last one because it had been so long since the one before that I would have had to read the entire series, start to finish, for the third time. I am going to wait until GRRM finishes the series, because at this point it's like 50/50 that he finishes it before he dies. If he doesn't finish it before he strokes out, then you know they're going to hire some no talent ass clown to stamp out 13 more books based on all of his unwritten notes, no matter how incoherent they are. I am just not up for that ride. When the last book is released, then I'll go along; I do agree that he'd have been finished by now if he hadn't introduced a thousanty-eleven new characters, though I do find most of them pretty epic.
marwyn is actually the arch maester of the higher mysteries. they mockingly call him mage because of his interest in magic, though that isnt necessarily what the link, rod, and mask represent. magic is one of many higher mysteries to be sure, thus falling under its umbrella.

You consistently put out amazing content...Baffling that you're not over 100k subscribers yet. Keep up the good work!

He's at 144k now. :) I just subscribed to him yesterday. I've only just discovered his videos but already really enjoy them. Great stuff.

Finally a channel with someone who knows what he's talking about and doesn't post a bunch of crap theories. Excellent work.
You need to be doing full book readings. You have a perfect voice for it. You could also be a voice artist for projects out of LA.
Too bad D&D didn't put him in Game of Thrones
I agree totally.
After season four or five, the show doesn't worth watching it. They cut a lot of characters, and turned it in a common Cinderella story.
They really watered it down sadly. Rip
Does anyone remember all the sex and nudity in Game of Thrones? After season 4 they simply disappeared.
Neo Riv I’d highly disagree. It’s not as good as season 1 but if you’re giving up on the show and the characters you’ve grown attached to just because there isn’t enough tits or violence you should leave.

Have you thought much about the Winds Of Winter sample chapters yet?
Necromancy is also named in A World of Ice and Fire, as something that happens in the city of Nefer, in the far east of Essos
Seems more reasonable to say Martin used the character mentioned earlier in the books to serve a new role he made up for the books.

Not to be confused with "The Men Who Stare at Goats" which are a strange group from Qohor.
How did Mirri pay dearly for the lesson from the necromancer? Did she pay with her life? And was Mirri resurrected, and by Dany burning Mirri it was her CERTAIN death?

Nice work as usual. I really hope we find out what these characters are up to before 2024 when the final book is released.

Good job brother! Love it!
Cool idea I was thinking it must be hard to keep coming up w new stuff for these well done hopefully you'll have more to work with soon
Asshai, consumed by Fire
Valyria, consumed by Fire
Harrenhal, consumed by Fire

Interesting topic. I hope u guys finish the mists of Avalon topic too. Keep it up!
Great job!
"Yes, daddy!" with those voices!
It seems possible that Qyburn gave Jaime the dreamwine and then Marwyn used the glass candle to send Jaime the dream where Cersei abandons him and Brienne sticks by him. We know glass candles can send dreams.
Great content
I would like to point out that if you pronouce the "a" in Mirri's name as you would in "ace" then "Maz Duur" sounds like "maester".
Really starting to miss your longer videos ...
Love how your brain works. Blown away again.
Great video!!
U thunk you are right about Mirri Maz Duur being at the right place at the right time. Why else would a powerful sorcerer like her be in a small Milkmen town tempel serving as healer? (This argument i think i have from Preston Jacobs)

Clint Page really?
Yeah. Really. I just gotta be that asshole sometimes.
Clint Page I can appreciate a honest man.
When I first saw the thumbnail, I though it said "NEGROMANCERS" and I was like "Wow, this is gonna get demonetized REALLY quickly". :D
It's a black soulgem. It has to be filled with the soul of a...
I love your voice. So imma subscribe.
Upon first glance I thought the title said “micromanagers”
I want George to write a side story about Qyburns work in the Citadel.
do you think melisandre is also a necromancer in the books who will bring back jon?
thats a very hot thumbnail my dude, be careful with the fonts xD
and who's the most gifted necromancer out there? The Night King is the Bloodstone emperor and Marwin's thesis advisor. booooom
I know you and The Order of the Green Hand work together. Have you heard their theory that The Church of the Stary Wisdom IS The Faith of the Seven?
I think Marwyn is a student of Kreia, look at the ripples he has made, but is he controlling them, or is he just someone else's ripple?
theory that Marywn and The Red Woman are really members of Church Starry Wisdom.
'Magey'
Doesn't sound right
Marwyn will bring Jon back in the books
I know thi is off topic .Quinn you ever watch American God's and if you have what you think?
I read all of the books and I hardly even remember Marwyn.
it was mirri's intent to turn drogo into what he became.
if you read books that Mirri show fear through eyes when Dany said you taught me "only life pay for life."
*the church of the starry wisdom is fucking everywhere*
👍
Magic cannot manipulate or make prophesy. Prophecy is the by product of time and destiny.
Deadman walking...
By glass candle do you mean a smart phone?
Yes!!!
Are you going to review Castle Rock on Hulu?
Theory glass candles are just old palantir's
if she is in fact pregnant.... is it far fetched to say; he's attempting to "alter" the unborn child, into some form of undeath?
Audio is too low
That's not the best font to write "NECROMANCER" *on all caps* on
LOL i initially read that font as "Negromancers".
That might be considered slightly racist... Mabye....
Oh fck i dont speak english. But this videos must be cool
Yoo i thought it was Negromancers
I thought the title said ‘Negromancer’
Raising people into blackness?
They made a boring movie. That's what went wrong. It was boring and kind of Robocopish with out the irony.
Nice vids, the reading could use a lot of improvement tho or just do it normally so it wont be cringy.
