I love these sticks. No anxiety about cutting open tubes ( to get out every single bit of pigment) . These sticks are fantastic with their pigments and affordable.
Yes very beautiful! Thank you i have some of the sticks. I'm hoping to get more as i go in watercolor. It seems like they would last longer than the paints?? I don't really know but if we have a depression I'm thinking at least I can paint. Lolololol 😊. JK FLORIDA USA 🇺🇸
Hi Gail. I just started watching your swatching. Could you tell me where you purchased the palette plate you have? I have a butcher tray, but mine has a high profile and yours looks like a better version. Thank you.
That is lid to a enamelware refrigerator box. I actually bought it at an antique store so I don't know where you could buy one currently. I am sorry I couldn't be more helpful. Thank you for watching!
Great question! I just tested that out. I have Undersea green in both stick form and dried down from a tube. Undersea green is a granulating color. I swatched them out side by side and they both seemed to granulate about the same. I hope that helps.
Do sticks have a hazy white binder and look less transparent than the tubes? I was comparing teal and sodalite, in stick and dot card versions, and the granulation doesn’t look remotely the same and there’s a hazier overall look to the stick. The same thing happens with lunar black. I got my sticks this winter from Blick. Any thoughts?
I haven't found there to be much difference, however I paint mostly florals and don't use a lot of granulators so I am not sure. I purchased my sticks from Blick as well. I am sorry I couldn't be more helpful.
It’s okay! I just hope I wasn’t given something that’s not DS, is all. The teal looks slightly yellower and less granulating in stick form than the dot sample. I will make sure to eventually get tubes in person. You can’t go wrong with that.
A lot of people seem to use the sticks as a more affordable option than the tubes. Since the sticks are made with the same pigments, there must be a reason why DS can sell the sticks for less. A lower pigment load, and other binders, seem likely explanations.
I love them! They are wonderful, especially for travel. Undersea Green is very nice too

Thanks for sharing Gail, great ideas! I've got several sticks and haven't been using them as much as I'd like. I'm going to try your techniques.
This was very helpful.
THIS MARINE HERE WILL SAY THANK YOU FOR LETTING PEOPLE KNOW ABOUT THE DANIEL SMITH WATERCOLOR STICKS MA'AM GAIL
Interesting AI user.
Lovely flowers. Thank you for the demonstration. Good luck with your channel.
Thank you.
DS has the best sap green. Nice value range but I find for iris that painting from life makes a difference.

They are very long lasting. I love how convenient they are to use as well.

Oh, I thought you would use the STICKS to make the art. This is just like squeezing out a little from a tube, OK. Well, thank you for this demo.
But less messy and no lids getting stuck on tubes of colour not used so often.
Yes 🥰 thank you
Hello Gail, Do the sticks have any graining in the paint like the Daniel Smith fine watercolor?
