And it always seems to work well. The "fertilizer" here looks like something homemade. Perhaps blended food scraps. If I need fertilizer that is what I have to use. Simple, when you have nothing else 😉

@@luzmanalo2410 Hi, You're welcome. 🙋♀️ You can also water down cow manure in a bucket 🪣, and water the plants with it. Kind of like drinking vitamin water for them. Also once in awhile use fish guts, or fish heads for fertilizer. Or if you have a fish tank, when you clean the tank to change out the water, use the dirty fish water on the plants. Ancient Native Americans used fish as fertilizer before Europeans arrived in America. The plants grow bigger, and produce more food. My father-in-law used to go fishing often. In this video, there's a lot left unexplained that makes for a great knowledge gap, causing this to not be surprisingly easy, but deceptively hard. The climate of the region shown may contribute greatly to the success of the crop. Does this method apply mostly to cherry tomatoes or can any type be grown? Also, how does one construct the canopy by which all those tomatoes are suspended? How are the plants fed, pruned, and protected from disease, insects, and animals? What's the watering schedule for the milky water given? Is that just how the water looks because the bucket was dirty or is that a prepared solution? There's just too much unexplained to make this much more than a mystery.
I'm assuming the growers are assuming we can figure that out or already know it all. You raise a good question about the soil and the nutrients they are using. I see that they are using a kind of mulch unknown to me, I've been growing since I was three years old, never seen a mulch that looks like dirty old shredded newspaper clippings. Having said this, I do wish they would give instructions on how to build the wire canopy but let's assume we all can figure that out? At the end of the day, I have to say it's a beautifully produced video, production speaking, and very inspiring. I think they are very clever people and I love how they repurpose everything. For that fact alone I give them gold stars for their beautiful mix of Celebrity, Early Girl, Cherry, and Beefstake tomatoes.
Judging by the buildings and the metal frame and sunscreen attached to it, the recycling of water bottles, the presence of a balcony, even the tiles used on the floor of the balcony, I'd guess it's SE Asia as those are all common here in Thailand. Climate is going to be dry and hot (28-36°) for 6-7 months then wet, very hot (37-42°) and very humid for 5-6 months. Cold in northern Thailand winters in the low areas is rarely below 10 degrees at night 30 degrees during the day, it lasts for up to 6 weeks, then the temps rise again. The wire is used to drape greenhouse shade screens over to keep the area underneath in shade, there's nothing special about it you just make a 12-18 inch cross mesh. Up that high flying bugs will be the only real pest, other than birds, there's no point in telling you what, if you live in the west, you'll be used to your own pests. Composts are generally home made, kitchen waste, garden waste, leaf mould, fertilizers are common, and largely non organic. The whiteish looking stuff in the soil is probably ash from burning, lots of tree limbs are burnt here so substitute potash if you don't burn waste wood. The leafy looking mulch stuff could be shredded palm leafs or coconut fibres, there's probably millions of tons of coconut husk waste generated every year, add coarse food compost and you've got a nutrient rich mulch. Cherry tomatoes are stupidly expensive here, so worth growing. Normal tomatoes, are so cheap it's almost more expensive to grow them. Large beefsteak tomatoes aren't common and I've never seen them used in Thai cooking, and rarely sold in shops, so if wanted you'd have to grow them yourself. I think normal toms would work fine, but I don't know if large heavy tomato stalks would support the fruit. If you want an idea of gardening reality here, imagine how your grandad or great grandad used to garden, and you'll be close. Practical, simple, cheap, function over form, re-use where possible and easy to maintain. The water bottles will be for watering, delayed seeping into the base of the soil to avoid drying out. The muddy looking water is likely to be a worm cast and water mix, it's commonly available, dilute it and pour into pots. Watering will be needed almost every day twice a day if it's really hot, with the worm cast water once a week. Hope this helps.

It's me again. I have gathered, what I can to make due at my home. I live on the other side of the planet. But I was so inspired by your veggies. I've made the country version. I bought 2- 4cu ft water metal holders for 100 gallon water containers. T-posts, across the midsections. 2 gallon "home depot" paint buckets. 14 buckets, 28 "S" hooks. They will hang the buckets level off the T-posts. (The water containers shown, 3 gal here were $22.00 with water. I needed 14 of them. 🙄 uh, no. ) Tomatoes and hot chili peppers. Yay! Soil, rice hulls, (burning them is not as easy as it should have been). Cow manure compost. I'm all set I think. However, for them to get enough sun, and not literally bake, I need to put them up in my driveway. It gets 110F here. I can at least move them to the shade if needed. For my world, this was the best choice. Wish me luck! Dede

@@florenceannroberts1066 I think you’re right! Looks like they pour the water scooping from a container, where I would just put the hose in the bottle to fill it! Having the 2 liter cut open would make it easier!
fantastic tomatoes - I wish I knew the combination of potting mix and compost that is being used here ....At some point it looks like some ash too ...?
@@florenceannroberts1066 Could add pebbles or sea shells? The empty watering bottle would be a place for the excess water to pool, too. Was thinking that a cotton cord might be added tied to a stone in the empty water bottle and threaded through one of the holes in the bottle could both wick moisture both ways as needed and, if tied to the hook on which the planter is hung, could serve as a guide to which the plant could be "attached" via loose garden ties in order to help guide the plant to grow straight up.
Beautiful tomatoes! I saw the ashes, at least that's what they looked like to me. I've heard that is good for the soil. I saw how he added more dirt, but what was that other stuff? It kinda looked like wet newspaper? Thank you for sharing, the tomatoes look delicious!❤

あまりの美しさについ見とれてしまいました。今年の夏はこうしてトマトを育てたいです。
what are the pop bottles for? to add water? love this idea!!!
Great question! I have buried a gallon milk jug with holes between my in ground tomatoes. Why did they cut the tops of the 2 liter jugs?
I think they cut the tops to give access to add water, but left the lids so that when they are “closed” they prevent evaporation
Seem to both add water and remove -- have a place for water to go -- so plant isn't overwatered. Seems like a great idea.
I thought it was to put kitchen scraps in
@@florenceannroberts1066 I think you’re right! Looks like they pour the water scooping from a container, where I would just put the hose in the bottle to fill it! Having the 2 liter cut open would make it easier!
What is the soil used? What is added on top? What is in the water added? And after started to grow, what is added to water?
Благодарю за твой труд!!!❤❤❤!!!!
Very useful video for environment
fantastic tomatoes - I wish I knew the combination of potting mix and compost that is being used here ....At some point it looks like some ash too ...?
I am wondering what is the bottom layer…that may improve drainage?
The secret to big tomatoes is bury the stalk. Remove all limbs except the top set and bury the plant.
@@openpalmjustice I've seen several different videos and they all do that with tomato plants. Thank you! I'll be doing that for sure
@@njb1814 when you bury bury the plant it's a good to protect the top from plash and dirt by putting news paper or landscape fabric around it. Yup, you got to protect that grow center. This guy appears to be putting some sort of mulch on top. That does the same thing. Dirt is a vector for disease. Keep it clean . Cheers!

Was wondering that, too. one seemed to be ashes, another crushed egg shell ... but it was really difficult to tell.

How does the water drain? I didn’t see any water draining out of the container when you watered them at the beginning.
Into the empty bottles?
Maybe the uses of the bottle is to drain the water
