    I just love Lauren Cuthbertson. I think she is highly underrated. I love her delicacy and grace. I hope she is paired more with Vadim the Dream! ❤️

    This pas must be light, airy and done with diamond precision. The partnering is not easy and the dancers must sense each other really well. Lauren reminds me a lot of Darcy's approach of sunny elegance. Vadim is a as Nela says, The Dream .

    Beautiful pas de deux: Muntagirov is magical here IMHO !
    The Baryshnikov-McBride video is the gold standard (for me anyway) and I'm thrilled that Muntagirov particularly is faithful to that version !
    **and 02:06, 03:05 - I'm crying with awe for the beautiful line !

    They both seem so joyful, not to mention elegant and powerful. Both his parents were dancers. Interesting history. I recall Maya Plisetskaya's mother was a movie star before Stalin had her murdered.
    And then she had to dance before him at the Bolshoi.
    There are so many incredible side stories about great dancers! Someone should write a book.

    This is a superb interpretation of the Tchaikovsky pdd by Cuthbertson and Muntagirov. Legs of steel, expressive upper body, emotional connection, pure classical style - they have it all. Lots of lovely details - look at 11:25 where their foot positions are beautifully matched! The pdd is well filmed for the most part, giving us a few close-ups for faces and costumes. I'd give it 9 out of 10 because the camera missed one or two important full shots, but was not terribly irritating. Loved the costumes especially Cuthbertson's fitted dress in a more flattering shade of pink than is usually offered. Generally I don't like the classic full sleeve for men because you often can't properly see the elbows and hands. Muntagirov's costume at least reveals the hands and the material is fine enough to be able to see the rounded arms. The tempo is acceptable: I'd call it medium, if a tad slow for Muntagirov's variations. I have never been entirely happy with Balanchine's chosen fast tempo, but which is demonstrated magnificently by McBride and Baryshnikov. I have always felt it was rushed. Thank you for posting this - it was a delight.

      Did you mean 1:25, where their feet were perfectly matched? Yes, I love these two dancers. They are capable of doing just about anything. It’s just that . . . . well, did it seem a little slow? I guess I’m used to the NYC tempo where the dancers and the audience themselves can barely catch their breaths! I think Tyler Peck is especially good in this pdd, beautiful and graceful in the slower parts, and then she turns on the speed and bravura during the fast parts . . . . absolutely flying through the air on those fish dives. But honestly, I’m not complaining! I could watch these two all day long. Thanks for posting. 👏👏🥰😘💕❤️

      @@levondelite4072, I agree. I love Tiler Pecks's Tchi PDD (and Darcey's one is lovely too). The only criticism I make to Tiler Peck is that she does not respect the original Balanchine's coreography in the fouettes of the final coda. She makes triple fouettes but not the ones Balanchine specifically asked to be done

      @@paulagiliberto7386 oh, ok, that’s a good and fair observation. Having not danced in many many years, I’m gonna go out on a limb and say it’s actually easier to do triple fouettés than it is to do all singles. Even though artists are able to do more turns, sometimes it’s not as aesthetically pleasing to watch. I usually like the original choreography better, especially if it’s Balanchine. 😊

    After watching a zillion recent versions of this and seeing some really amazing ones, one thing I definitely have to pay both Cuthbertson and Nunez in their versions is for going full out on those awkward back travelling arabesques (whatever they’re called 😂) because they actually complete them and don’t dwindle to a tired shuffle by the last one or two. They’re awkward and hard but they make them look good (and everything else!)

    • @garotadagavea
      @garotadagavea 3 года назад +3

      Her variation is very, very close. His had some simplifications but you are right, it is one of the closest. Mr.B., as any other choreographer who had the chance, made full use of Baryshnikov's gifts. His variation is a beast! It mixes intricacy, precision and athleticism in a lightening speed tempo. Nobody else does it. Not even the guys who came before him. If you look at Jacques D'Amboise's, it is very close to this choreography wise, with Muntagirov being of course much more precise. Then you look at Baryshnikov's and you realize that Balanchine went wild on that one.

    • @Marta44339
      @Marta44339 2 года назад +1

      @@garotadagavea Agree completely. McBride and Baryshnikov reign in this ballet. I think I've watched every version on YT. this interpretation is quite good, Cuthbertson is wonderful and true, her variation is very close to McBride's. Every other man's variation looks different from Baryshnikov's. Muntagirov is excellent, but there is no comparison to what MB did in the film of Tchai PdD, with Balanchine's stamp of approval. I think the current best version is that of Tiler Peck and Roman Mejia. De LuZ was also great in this ballet with Tiler Peck.

      How hilarious. I can rarely watch Royal dancers other than the sublime Nunez and Muntagirov, for exactly the same 'reason' you give: nauseating affectations and schticks. You doubtless like Cuthbertson, who's inferior in every way to ANY great NYCB ballerina in this role, because she is also affected and precious. The tempi are a joke; this sort of accommodation does not occur in a real performance of Balanchine. McBride, Verdy, Nichols, Ashley, Hlinka, Peck, and Bouder all dance this in a completely different universe of brilliance than Cuthbertson could ever attain--just to name a few ballerinas only at NYCB over the years. At other companies: Kirkland, Loscavio, Catoya, Seay, J. Delgado, Imler, Pantastico, etc. etc. etc. ad infinitum.
