It’s a lovely spot, I really enjoyed it. Not many features in front of that swim when I surveyed with the deeper. Mainly just that main drop off from 3 straight down to 14-15ft then it comes back up slightly on a gradual slope to 12ft. At around 90 yards out it drops to 19ft. No weed in those deeper areas but the silt is very deep and soft. Nearly swallowed my camera so the underwater footage wasn’t useable. Just sunk into the silt. It would definitely be a place I’ll be bivving up in for a couple of days at it.
@@FishingwithSteveIreland cool, makes sense why on my far rod with a 3 Oz weight I didn't have a tap of interest 😁 the bait was probably sunk in the mud !
I’d say it was. All but one file from the underwater camera was unusable because It just kept sinking in. The camera with the weight would probably weigh 1-1.5oz max. So I’d say your 3oz was buried. Next time I go there I’m going to free line a bait to try it. That drop off was only 2/3 wraps out. A nice size roach would cast that far no problem. Let it just sit nicely on top of the silt.
@@FishingwithSteveIreland spot on with the Freeline idea. Might chance a drifter float also, I love that method. To the left of the swim, probably where the boat was fishing, is what appears to be the deepest spot.
Wouldn't freeline at all, especially at range or decent depth, too easy to gut hook a pike, no weighted dropback swingers, roller alarms. Shallow water, close range, weighted rear swingers and delks, maybe with a few Swan shot on the trace. If silt is an issue and you have depth, use a sfp sunk float paternoster. No need to faff about with heli rigs and uptraces. Just tie a rotten bottom 8lb mono link to top treble with 2oz lead
Thanks for the sub. Much appreciated. When you’re sitting there freezing for 12 hours I think every run matters. 😂 I’ve had lads get in touch saying that they have had very large pike from that water. Most are saying they have come from the deeper stretches anywhere between 20-30ft of water.
Great video and your enthusiasm is infectious.. I know that spot, it has some cracking roach and used to be a fairly prolific trout water back in the day… sadly the munchers have decimated the pike stock.. glad you had a few fish
A very nice video and enjoyed watching. That is a very heavily fished lake. Having had a few 20s in my time i would strongly recommend 3 things. 1 stay away from very popular venues as you have more competition for the few available big ones and 2 fish rivers and walk well awsy from the carpark and rove the river. 3 find the big shoals of bait fish ad big pike are always close by. As long as you are enjoying your fishing that is most important of all 👍
New to the channel and now subscribed, great to see the different venues and fantastic editing of your videos, im curious have you ever fished Blessington lake?
There is giants in that lake, I'm heading out there myself soon, going to catch my personal best, congrats on getting off your blank it can be rough, I'm on one for around a month with 2 pike since who both shook the hooks out
Best of luck on your search for a new PB. Blanks are rough when you’re sitting there in that weather for 12hrs plus. But it makes it all the sweeter when they come to an end.
Yeah 2 in the bag early on and i thought it was going to be non-stop. then nothing at all during the day. then bang 2 as it was getting dark. Dawn and Dusk fishing.
8:30 .... the lads in the boat had the whole lake to fish and they fish on top of ya.... I don't know how many times thats happened to me too... pisses me off bigtime... 😒
@@FishingwithSteveIreland Thats fair enough Steve... I guess that it just irks me that guys in boats KNOW us bank-anglers are tied to a spot whereas they can roam the whole lake... It happened to me up in Blesso years ago, an old guy with his grandkid onboard pulled up about 50 yards out and starts casting lures into my swim... I asked him to give me some space and got the inevitable "fcuk off" ...so I rang Peader the ESB bailiff who I knew was on the water that day and he pulled the guy up and gave him a bollickin for harrassing me and also for not having floatation devices on them... 😂 Had the same thing happen to me at a lake in Ballinamore... 2 lads trolling lures up and down just barely outside my swim... I got the same response from them when I asked them to move out a bit... lads are very brave when they're outta range of a left hook.. 😏 As it turned out an hour after these boys fecked off I got a run and landed my PB... 27.75lbs... karma baby !! 🤭 Nice vid, mate that lake looks nice... Tight lines ! 😎👍☘🍺
Was on it today, few doubles today but weather was atrocious, lost my bait boat with the waves, anybody comes across please get in touch it would be much appreciated
Sorry to hear that mate. What type of boat was it. Did it sink or did it drift away on you? Also have you asked on the Facebook pike groups for people to keep an eye out?
@@FishingwithSteveIrelandwasn’t expensive but had fish finder attached to it also so kinda double blow, out far was producing the doubles in 24 ft water, was madness the waves out there, she went upside down then drifted away outa sight, will throw it on the groups also
@djliam21 I think irishpikefishingguides was doing a few days out on this lough could be worth getting onto him to have a look. Hope you can get it back pal
Just came across your channel Steve and must say I’m very impressed, great content , also great to see Irish guys here on Utube , I’m from ballina. Mayo and started my campaign to get a 20 if possible a few weeks ago, , up to 18 fish so far with 13 Lb the highest yet,, looking forward to seeing more of your updates , I’m a dead bait fanatic, keep up the good work. Tight lines mate
Thanks for dropping a comment mate. Yeah I love dead baiting myself. I’ve not done any real lure fishing at all. Best of luck for that 20lb. My PB is at 17.5lb. Would love to join the 20 club this year but want to do it on deadbaits.
Ah delighted you had a good day! There's big fish in that lake, for sure.

New subscriber. Lovely to see someone who appreciates every capture not just the larger Pike.... There has got to be some decent fish in that water.

Well done mate, next time you fish there head on up to the left more as it's deeper water, use the boat to drop out to 25ft of water
Cheer Rob. There were a good few lads fishing up that end alright. Don’t know how they got on.

great video, keep them going!
Thanks, will do!
Yea I’ve fished that lake a good few times over the years.. some low doubles being the highlight..
It’s a lovely venue. Seems very popular.

Where is this lake if anyone can tell me? Love pike fishing still waiting for my first 20lb pike my biggest only being at 17lb 8oz 👍
I don't like giving the names of lakes out anymore on the channel but its in Co.Monaghan
