Me too. Can't get my band to play this kind of stuff. We play Chicago style blues - Muddy Waters, lots of Otis Rush, Freddie King and so on, but no John Lee Hooker or the like. I briefly got them to play "Boogie Chillen." They just find the guitar parts boring. Like you, I find it hypnotic and moving. The one song with a boogie feel that we do play is Otis Rush's "Cut You Loose."
I'm from Japan. I love your harmonica lesson very much! I want to ask about this lesson. This licks needs almost only inhale. How can I continue this long time without exhale?
Thanks, I’m glad you like the lesson! Blues music uses lots of draw (inhale) breaths. It’s all about the breath control, so you don’t fill up too much. Check out this video - ruclips.net/video/dEI1bmmPGbQ/видео.html
Hi Alan, I am teaching at Edinburgh again this year - where are you based? Here is the link to the Edinburgh workshop: tomlinharmonicaschool.com/p/2019-edinburgh-harmonica-workshop
Hi Liam, You know one song I really love is Sonny Boy II's "My Younger Days." I can kind of play it but would love to see your take on it. Thanks. Rich
nice groove Liam. at the end of the video you distinguish between Boogie (this video) and Shuffle. could you clarify. Perhaps there's a lesson in that.
Yeah that would be a good video. There's a great album of blues backing tracks for harmonica which would give you a good idea of some of the different grooves you need to be able to pick out: www.jimileeband.com/instant_download/
Hi there brother Liam cool video .I've got a song request its a super cool funky tune its called Comanche by the Revels its from the film pulp fiction its the bring out the gimp scene.I think its being played on a sax .cheers dude keep on trucking
Great sound but I keep catching the inside of my lip on the screw of the harmonica . Getting a little blister and it really hurts . Playing a Hohner Special 20 . Help! Ow ow ow !!!!
Hi Sunny Scott, sorry to hear that. I'm guessing you're pressing your lips too hard against the harmonica. You need the harmonica quite deep into your mouth to get a full sound but you don't need to be tense. If you work on relaxing then perhaps even if you brush a screw here or there it won't matter so much?
@@Learntheharmonica Thanks for the kind reply . I ordered a Suzuki with rounded corners and flat screws . I hope that will work better for me . Your videos are very helpful and fun !
I've been playing harmonica for about a year now and have learned a lot from your videos. I picked up this boogie lick fairly quickly. The one problem I have is running out of breath after playing it the third time. On this particular lick, how do you recommend equalizing your breathing.
Hi Bob, I tend to breathe out quite a lot through my nose on out breaths. So I'm playing a note (e.g. 4 blow) and forcing some air out of my nose at the same time. I was talking this through with a private student the other day and hadn't realised how much I do this until we discussed it. It make a big difference, and then in theory you can just keep the lick going forever. Although the neighbours might get a bit annoyed. Cheers, Liam
I'll give that a try. Since this boogie lick is reminiscent of "on the road again" maybe you can do a lesson on it in the future. Keep up the great lessons!

Love your videos man, very helpful, your wife's a lucky lady
A trick I didn't catch first time! To breathe: the 2 draw is eq to 3 blow! Thx nice lick, 👍
Não entendo nada, sou do Brasil, mais acredito que tem uma ótima didática !👌
Very nice - sounds like what Alan Wilson does on "On the Road Again."
Yeah, it's that same boogie feel. I love this kinda stuff, could keep it going all day!

It doesn't just sound like it. It is exactly the same riff as Canned Heat's "On the Road Again."
You make it so easy to learn. God bless you.
So nice of you, thanks!
Great lesson Liam! Thank you.
No worries 😎
Just learned how to play this. Thank you Sir!!
You’re welcome, thanks for watching!
Hi Liam, love your work. Sounding very much like the intro to the ZZ Top song La Grange!
Thanks, and good luck learning this :)
Thanks Liam. That brought back happy memories of the Jam Workshop in Edinburgh. Really enjoyed the workshop and this video
Cheers Tony, hope to see you again in the future :) All the best, Liam
Hi Liam , Great tutorial . Good to see you at Edinburg . What a great weekend . Already looking forward to next year !
Thanks Adrian, it was a blast again this year. Tell Tomlin to have me back again! Cheers, Liam
Thats was great, and the good thing with this you can kinda combine it with Adam Gussows shuffles and Tomlins ending licks, just marvelous
Nice. Combine them into a big RUclips blues harp teachers' mongrel tune!
Nice simple rhythm - thanks Liam!
No worries Kevin, glad you enjoyed it :) Cheers. Liam
thanks, great this is going to inspire me to really practice
Thanks Peter, best of luck :)
Thanks, will practice daily.
That's a great great riff ❤
Hey thanks for the tuition Liam much appreciated
You're very welcome.
Great lesson Liam - very useful for practicing improvising.
Thanks Kevin, yep it's a good one for adding little phrases here and there, repetition and variation. Good luck! Cheers, Liam.
I've catched the rhythm, but to breathe is challenging 4 me, I'll try to understand how u perform, thx anyway, nice lesson
I have a trouble breathing considering it’s mostly all draws. Any times where I can add a blow without corrupting rhythm?
Brill Liam!....sonds great on an Aharp too!....very Canned Heat-Alan Wilson ish!
Yeah Ian, it's lovely on a lower key. I prefer the lower keys but do a lot of RUclips stuff on a C so that it's more accessible.
Lovin it Liam!
Thanks Kevin :)

After three or so rounds I feel completely full of air! Any tips on how to regulate my breath?
Hi wolfernater, I have a lesson that might help: ruclips.net/video/dEI1bmmPGbQ/видео.html
So wish you'd give us the tabs.
Hi Keith, the tabs are in the video description :) Cheers. Liam
This is helping control the bend so much ....move over Brian Jones
Yes it's a good exercise for bending. Good luck Thomas :)
man aren you smoked as hell :DDD
