    I will say this. As a Black dude I have never walked into a Nordstroms and felt I was being stereotyped. And Nordstroms was the first ever luxury store that I took my Mother shopping too and never gave us a return issue. It’s our Families favorite store in California. Thank you Nordstroms ❤️

      A quick sidebar, the main road in Hunts Point WA (a really nice suburb of Seattle) was installed by the Nordstrom family decades ago. Each section of the concrete paving is stamped with the family name.

    Nordstrom just closed their store here in Anchorage, Alaska, in September after 40+ years. They left like 4 years before their current lease was up and just boarded up the building which is in the center of downtown on 6th Ave. and connected to the mall downtown by a multi-level glass sky bridge and left it an eyesore. What a shame.

    I'm in California and Nordstrom customer service is second to none. If I'm going to actually go to a store to buy clothes, I go there. Their return policy used to be absurd. They didn't require a receipt, the box it came in, nothing. Heck, you could have bought it at some other store and they'd take it back. I don't know if it's still like that. But they are the diamond of retail stores. here they have Nordstrom RACK, where they take the clothes at the season end and sell everything less than half off. i love the RACK.

    • @msshana7802
      @msshana7802 4 года назад +2

      Yes which I hated so much as a former employee. Taking back dirty nasty shoes worn by customers who have no shame. Plus we got comission and the returns affected us really badly. They started to reinforce a stricter policy later on for the high end designer shoes but you could still get away with it; if a manager got involved. Nonethelss, great company to work for but they need a little more structure and stricter policies.

    I'm no shopper, but I've always liked the owner's of Nordstrom. Just like the story of New York, their story is unique and one of perseverance. If nothing else, it makes them a better fit for the city than other big-box national chains that have decided to open in New York in recent years. With that said, I'm not convinced that this new notion of creating a unique shopping "experience" at a traditional brick and mortar location will be able to stop the tide of the internet. Part of me think its just buying them a little more time. I'd love to be proven wrong -- I don't like the fact that we've all become zombies living on the internet either; but my gut tells me these places won't be around in 20 years.

    Nordstrom is nice(Physically and personally is probably nice) A bit too pricy for me. I'm more on the budget of like a Macy's. I think physical stores will always be here is some way. I'm a millennial and I'd rather get most of my stuff in a physical store because you can see it, try it on, it's instant, and if you need to return it, It's instant and it's not a pain. You don't get any of that with online shopping. The real crime would be getting a department store inside a mall. Actually outdoor shopping malls do very well though. I have a couple by me and it's always busy.

    I personally prefer shopping at a department store as opposed to online. I can get what I want that day, no waiting or shipping costs, and I can try things on, and dont have to deal with mailing a return back in. I also like the experience of a department store, especially that shoe bar! Can't get that online. And just the nostalgia of memories shopping at that type of store is enjoyable for me. Since I'm very picky with what I get in terms of clothes, furniture, and other permanent, staple items in the home. I can really take my time to evaluate what I want and what I don't want. Going into the store, I feel pressured to not spend too much time looking, it's packed, crowded, too much fluorescent lighting lol. I do enjoy going brick-and-mortar for little shopping items. Unique things you can't find online, for example.

    It's been over three years since this was posted. Crazy to think about everything that happened with COVID, and yet they're still in NYC. As they said, if you can make it here... (I'll complete it) you can make it anywhere. They sure proved those people who called them "dumb Swedes" wrong!
    (I think these days Swedish heritage is not as "unhip" as it used to be. It's just unfortunate that "Swedish" might also be associated in the public psyche with popular, globalized Sweden-based brands that sell "cheap" stuff, namely IKEA furniture and [to a lesser extent] H&M clothing.)
    I love the tribute to Blake Nordstrom as well. Out of the many businesspeople in the world, Blake Nordstrom was high on my list of businesspeople I admired. I actually felt devastated when I learned he passed away (on the same day as my mom's 57th birthday).

    I was going to joke that they took Barney's spot, but they seemed to create their own with style. Nordstrom's is what Macy's wants to be. Macy's is heavily over saturated from decades of gobbling up other chains, most notably Robinson May. Nordstrom's is a more accessible Neiman Marcus / Saks / Bloomingdale's that has an emphasis on service. I'm not a dedicated customer, but on the off times I've made purchases there they were enjoyable experiences.

    If retail businesses want to attract customers again, they need to start building stores with some character, like they did in the 70s. Who wants to go to the same layout mall with the same generic goods in every city? I’d rather shop online. But yes, give me a Cinderella City with Cinder Alley with its little stores and street lamps and fun little gadgets for sale, and I’ll be there.
