- This video shows an overview of what it is like to build a Van's RV-7A experimental aircraft. Prospective buyers of a kit airplane, this is for you. Those contemplating taking on a build project will get a quick feeling for what to expect. Warning it doesn't show the struggling parts. But it shows a variety of tasks you will experience. A build log can be seen at www.mykitlog.com/sglynn.
Great job. We have the same model and love it! Cheers, Kirb
Awesome Steve! I have used your build log many times for information. I see Ed got his -6 in the air a while back!
Good job keeping the plastic on! .025? So light!
Very cool. Congrats on the build! She looks beautiful!
Jordan. The engine is IO360. It is the model sold by Vans. When it comes to engine and prop combos Vans has done their homework. Plus their price can’t be beat.
Congrats, Steve! What an inspiring achievement. Thank you for sharing.
I want the same!!!!
@Steve L Is that the Lycoming O-320 you have in there? I'm curious, which one to use. There seem to be many variations of the O-320 (i.e.; IO-320-B3B/E2D/C1A/D1B, etc). Which one did you go with, sir? I plan to build the RV-7A myself, and want the Lycoming O-320 for the range.
It’s IO360 from Vans.
Did you record your first flight?
I recorded the first flight only with a couple photos taken by friends. You can see them on my build site. But I did record my first rolls and loops in this video. www.dropbox.com/s/p95vdf6cj1cdjhe/Fly%20to%20Concrete%20Roll%20Loop-V2.mp4?dl=0
Where did you get dual to be safe?
Dual mags because I’m just making it as nominal as possible so next owner will have an easy time maintaining it.
you are only showing stages, not processes ---- makes things look easier/simpler than reality.
Gwen Walcott Agreed and it doesn’t show do overs, challenges and pondering time. So prospect builders be ready for some therapy.
Gwen, you can see build detail here: www.mykitlog.com/sglynn
