- In this episode, Tony tries to correct the record by rightfully recognizing the genius of It Is & It Isn't- Gordon Haskell's 1971 solo record on Atco. Flanked by John Wetton, the record is packed with fantastic melodies, songs, and was much more commercially viable than crimson at the time. Please accept my apology for bashing GH's vocals on Lizard and Poseidon. Please help us by subscribing and hitting the like button and please leave your comments below. It Is and It Isn't is an absolutely brilliant album filled with memorable songs. Haskell who left Crimson under a black cloud took his kill shot at the band on the very first song of the album and then proceeded to deliver great song after great song. One item of note here is that the drummer on the album Bill Atkinson (Wetton's band-mate in Mogol Thrash) at times sounds like a very young Bill Bruford. An utterly charming album, highly recommended. Cheers!
Very nice record. I originally purchased in the mid-70s. Psych/folk genre. Described well in this account. Good songs, lyrics, vocals, and instrumentation.
I found that album back in the mid 70's and it blew my mind. His voice was perfect for this folky pop record. But he didn't have the right vocal range for King Crimson. So you are correct, he got a lot of flack for what he did with Crimson on Lizard. But he sounded fine on Cadence and Cascade.
One of my favorite albums of mine.. I covered "Upside Down" the day Gordon Died...
This is the first time in a long time I've found good conversations on the Internet. Wish dad was here for it.
Well .. he did get in the Guiness Book of Records... oldest singer to get a number 1 "How Wonderful You Are"
I’m listening on iTunes very good. His more resent is good as well. If you like Gordon Haskell check out Jens Lekman
You need to meet my friend Terry Figs. He has Equally useful knowledge 💯
