- Elecraft have just announced the release of this new CW transceiver. It's an ultra portable pocked sized transceiver that is ideal for SOTA and POTA, plus many other Ham Radio adventures. Peter G3OJV takes a first look at this new radio from the Elecraft factory.

If only I wasn’t so crap at CW I’d buy one. Had my KX3 for 10 years or so now and it’s still my favourite for outdoors. Exciting for Elecraft and their followers and shaking the market. Thanks for sharing. 73 Mike
Looks like it will be added on my wish list!
Looks great Peter 👌
Thanks Peter
Also, the new TX500MP looks interesting 👍

Hi Robert. Yes agreed.
It looks great. I own a KX2 and love it, in fact I like the kx2 more than my 705 and use it more often. I have been working on my cw for sometime, if I get somewhat proficient at it I would certainly consider this radio. I am curious about the ATU since according to Elecraft its not as capable to match as the KX2 or Kx3. Looking forward to the reviews for this.
Thanks for sharing
It will be a delight for pedestrian mobile! (Pedestrian mobile CW? Yes, for sure!) Glad to see Elecraft is keeping an emphasis on small QRP field rigs.
Yes agreed.
Thank you for the video. Can you use a straight key with this rig? Thank you.
Looks nice but by the time you add all the needed options it's over $1,000. Kind of a bummer. I'll just enjoy my KX2. Disappointed in this new rig's price.
Yes it does add up, but many will simply be happy with the basic unit I guess.
Effectively an updated KX1
Yes, they are absolutely nuts with their pricing.
It sounds the ideal thing for me However, it also sounds a bit over the top to me to include a real time clock and logging. That will presumably mean a battery and if that is the case then the next question I would have is how easy is the battery to replace?
Hi Peter, thank you for the very interesting information regarding this new product. Unfortunately I’m a little confused, as you suggested I contacted ‘Waters and Stanton’, I did this today thinking I could just register an interest in order to gain information as it is available only to be told that they as no longer dealing in ‘Elecraft’ equipment and I would need to contact ‘Elecraft’ in the USA in order to purchase one. Having purchased two KX products from W&S previouslyI was a little disappointed to hear this…
Sorry about that. The situation is that we have no price details, there is no CE and there is no sample available yet for us to asses at the curr3nt time.
Hi Peter. Its an intereting idea but Way too expensive to get here in the UK.
The basic rig -- which has about 50% of the feature you need is just short of $600. To get a rig with the feature you need its around $1350 by the time you get it here in the UK!
I'll stick to my second hand KX2 for the forseeable future!

Hi peter is the power fix at 5 watts or can it be variable which would be great ?
I am sure it can be. The user manual is now available on their website.
I had one in my hand at Pacificon today. It feels solid. Didn't really play with it. It will not be available as a kit.
Thanks for that.
For $1000? Are they nuts? I can almost buy two of my Yaesu HF rigs for that price.
Hi Peter ,are you going to be selling these? And if so when would you expect stock in?
As I said in the video, it requires CE and I don’t have a time scale.
Challenge...when u get your hands on one make a video to see if you can delpoy it under a minute!
At 80 years of age I can’t promise!
Too bad of the C/P value. I can accept it is USD$650 around.
