Wayne's seminar was a joy to listen to, and the feel of the radio in your hand is amazing. Thank you for bringing this to us Chuck, it was a real pleasure meeting you ,and visiting with you and Dennis. That radio by itself is a reason to learn CW.
Wayne’s a nice person. I wish the other 3 had people remotely close to talking with the customer base. I can see this being a fun and popular sota rig. Thanks for the look chuck.
Hi Chuck. Great interview. Eric and Wayne are great to talk to and Pacificon was extra fun this year, it's not often a new radio is introduced there! Thanks Elecraft! Time to brush up on CW and try something new, really something old renewed!
Looks like a nice rig…I own a KX3 now…Love it…That log book tray should be reversible for left handlers…I write with my left hand and use my right hand for sending…
This in a similarly tiny box, with an upsloped front panel for standard table-top use and I'd buy one. Love the simple, easy to use feature, but not planning on CW while holding the rig!
Really think this will do well, I’ve had my KX3 for over 10 years and resisted the temptation to buy the 705 for what in practical terms for me doesn’t hit the mark. No disrespect to 705 owners it’s a fab rig that has raised the bar immensely. Looking at the KH1 for CW operators who want ultra portable operation this fits the bill. Add an end fed antenna or dipole and its versatility is complete. I have 2 issues, it’s not available in the U.K. and I’m crap at CW. If ever there were a good excuse to get better at CW this is it. Thanks for posting. Regards Mike
The only thing I'd argue is that it's not quite half the price of the KX2. From my perspective it costs almost as much as what I paid for my KX2 when spec'd to what I did. Though if we want to be pedantic 550 is about half the price of 999. I still bought the thing though because I like elecraft products even if it is what I'd consider a poor financial decision
I didn't understand the buy what you want part of the KX2 because I wanted it all Lol, But I wish that was the way with other radios get what you want and not pay for what you don't. Thanks for the comment!
I don't think they mentioned it, but you CAN snap the tray on the other side of the radio for left-hand ops. They made it ambidextrous! This is explicitly mentioned in the KH1 manual, Page 8, "Log Tray and Pen." Elecraft is amazing.
Great interview, and we get to see it work! Pretty cool the low SWR on that whip.
Yea if you have thought about doing a SOTA and learning CW this is the ticket!
It really helps to have a counterpoise wire (and tuner) to achieve low stable SWR.
Great interview. Looks like a sweeeeet setup for portable cw.
Thanks Jim it was a fun hamfest and Wayne is great

It was great meeting you also and Dennis is always fun to hang out with. I wish I had been at Wayne's talk, I ned to look the schedule over better.
Ahhh, I have too safe some money but I so definitely want one! :)
Chuck, great interview! From the Nor Cal 40 to the KH1 this is has been a great trip!
Thank you I had a great time and always like talking with Wayne!
Thanks for a great interview! Definitely excited to get my hands on one.
Looks like a pretty nice little rig 👍
It is really cool Ape!
Good interview, congrats.
Great interview for a cool radio!
What a great interview, the most informative I’ve seen on the KH1. Well done Chuck.
Thanks, it's easy with a great guest that knows his product!
Nice radio. Great info.
Wow nice rig….. glad you got the scope on the rest of RUclipsrs!
Lol thanks it doesn't happen often!
Really interesting radio. Thanks Wayne and Chuck. KO4HPC 73
Thanks for watching and the comment!
Love that KH1!
Diet SOTA - I like that!!
Dang Roger I didn't get that during the interview Bur yea that is really good on Wayne's part! I was thinking of the next question to be honest Lol
Chuck it was great to meet you face to face Saturday in front of the Yaesu booth.
You too Fred, it was a good show and getting back to what is was.
Is the whip the same one that is used on the AX1 antenna?
Wayne’s a nice person. I wish the other 3 had people remotely close to talking with the customer base. I can see this being a fun and popular sota rig. Thanks for the look chuck.
I agree Jay with Elecraft your talking to the guys that have the ideas and can make things happen, Thankyou for the comment!
Wayne's right - elecraft is one of the few companies that listens to it's customers
You got that right Steve they do listen, the difference is their founders are the guys you talk to at the shows.
Great stuff.
Thanks for watching and comment!

Someone else mentioned the left hand deal it might do it not sure but we can ask Wayne on CaHR and or suggest it
Out of my price bracket. Looking forward to reviews after its on the market for a year.
I can see that and kind of a radio not for everyone but the SOTA guys that love CW will have to have it and made in the USA!
This in a similarly tiny box, with an upsloped front panel for standard table-top use and I'd buy one. Love the simple, easy to use feature, but not planning on CW while holding the rig!

Mike, I understand about the 705 could have soo much more but I choose my KX2 if I have to pack it out.
Thanks for doing this interview Chuck! Very cool…. Does this little gem also decode CW on receive, not just when you send? I would imagine not…..
Update: I just read the manual online. It decodes strong signals on receive too….
@@cwqrpportable Yea I thought it did and if like the KX2 it will do it really well!

@@KK6USYHamRadioAdventures I just wish that doing so did literally double the price of the radio
Now we need an FT8 version with a screen where the note pad is. A rig like that would sell a lot. (Please don’t hit me 😂)
Instead of that, why not learn CW? Is FT8 the mode for people who don't like other people? Just kidding! :)
@@chrissmart9761 one of these days lol
Lol I won't , and I do FT8 on occasion.
Hi i have a question is the power variable from 5w down ?
This is cool, but I wish it had 10m.. Please Elecraft, can you make something like this radio for SSB TX, covering at least 12m/10m/6m ... 73
Will there be a left handed unit lol
I don't think they mentioned it, but you CAN snap the tray on the other side of the radio for left-hand ops. They made it ambidextrous!

Elecraft is amazing.
Certainly a good product but limited a fair bit by CW only and price..;)
Yea but a lot of the SOTA guys mostly do CW and Wayne has done well with their small whips, thanks Don!
If I was a CW operator I would definitely consider this. Until then I will make do with a KX2 😅
Me too , I love the KX2 nothing comes close to it for size , quality and just all that it can do in a small package!
It's a shame; the KX3 looks amazing and I'd have ordered one already if it had a USB-C PD connector for charging.
Derp, KH1.
I was a bit dismissive when I first saw this, but the more I see the more I like, still crazy expensive though 😊
It does have the cool factor lol, Thanks for the comment!
Anything made in America is not cheap. The best part is it is and they help when you ask. The radios preform very well and easy to use.
Need a left handed model
It's left and right handed.
@@KK6USYHamRadioAdventureslog is on right side. Left hand arm would be across the radio resting on the radio. Unlike a right hander’s arm.
What about the most important tell all. The price?
Shame it doesn't do SSB. Deal breaker for me.
Your right and it will be like that for some and then the SOTA guys are probably lined up to get one, thanks for watching!
radios cool but if i had the chance id love to talk to him about the business end being a co founder of a company with a cult following
Maybe "cult" is the wrong word.
