This is just wild!! Gorgeous flash! I am so grateful that you have persevered all the storms that life has thrown at you to spend your time working so hard to teach us all that you can about this wonderful stuff called polymer clay. Tory Hughes would be so pleased.
Your faux stones tutorials are hands-down the best (closest to the real stone) that I've found on YT. There's a lot out there that really look nothing like a real stone. Your expertise is formidable! 🤍
Took a three day course from Tory and it was wonderful. She was a true artist and it was a privilege to know her. I was shocked and saddened by her untimely passing.
Finally starting to catch up on missed videos from the past couple of weeks! My daughter LOVES rainbow moonstone and you've certainly managed to catch the flash on this one brilliantly! Kudos to you and thank you for, yet another, inspiring video and further instruction in the use of Pardo :)
I love listening to your voice. I don’t work with polymer clay but I enjoy watching the process and I very much love your work and your personality. ❤️
Wow! The beauty and simplicity of your technique forces me to write my first ever comment. Moonstones have always been my favorite gemstone, as well as my birthstone. (Yes, June has 3 birthstones, but I've always loved this one best.) Your technique is so easy to follow, and includes so many helpful tips, that I'm sure I'll be creating many beautiful moonstones as soon as I receive my Opal Magic. I subscribed to your channel a few weeks ago, and have been impressed with what you can create out of such simple supplies. Every video I have watched is amazing, and results in a beautiful piece. Thank you for your willingness to share and teach these techniques - especially for free!
I´m late on this one, hot dang these are stunning! :) I´m so glad that I´m having a look on some older videos! :D Thank YOU so much for sharing this :) I really appreciate it :)
Wonderful tutorial! I think that I may actually be able to make some of these. Thank you! Also, after reading your lovely tribute to Victoria Hughes, I immediately ordered her book. I can’t wait to read it and add it to my reference library.
I have wanted to put moonstone gemstone highlight rocks in my work but too cheap to buy real ones! This is perfect thank you so much for solving a 2 yr headache of mine! You're one crafty woman! Hope this finds you well. 💙
Oh, I was not so fortunate to be friends with Tory Hughes. She was one of the pioneers of polymer clay art and one of the most inspirational people. Her passing was a great loss for the whole community. She was one of the (if not THE) first to do faux techniques and faux gemstones in polymer clay and a great inspiration and teacher to all of us. That is why I had dedicated this tutorial to her.
I knew that but I feel like we lost a friend in that she inspired us to be better and that is what friends do. I feel that you too are a friend to us all. You have a way of making me feel like I can do anything. You inspire me.
I did a Frangipani (Hawaiian Plumeria) cane and a brooch a couple months ago, the cane was created live on Facebook and I uploaded the video here on youtube, then made a brooch and ear rings with it. That one is made fully in Fimo, including the translucent. Fimo translucent is beautifully white like Pardo or Cernit but not as translucent.
Thank you for the video Kalyana. Your results are beautiful. However, I could not make out the direction of the layers when you sliced the pieces to put into the molds. Did you put the pieces into the mold with the layers going left to right, or up and down? Thank you.
Le resultat utilisant Cernit serait magnifique! Un peu plus difficile parce qu'il n'est pas aussi facile de faire la difference avec le blanc et le translucent, mais Cernit est meilleure qualite en transparence.
I seriously have tried to do this so many times' doing every single thing u do but it refuses to work for me. I'm using premo. I purchases the exact same products used too. The main problem im having is that once I put the little bit of the paint and then the powder, the thin piece of translucent I out over it will not stick to it. It creates a HUGE air pocket. I want to make this so freaking bad and its driving me crazy a little lol. Any suggestions on whats going on and how to make it work?
I'd say that most likely your translucent is not conditioned soft enough. It needs to be conditioned very soft to get the sheet thin enough to have proper translucency. Rub your thumb to push air pockets from the inside out. You can bypass the clay not sticking by simply rubbing a very small amount of translucent liquid clay on the thin translucent polymer clay before placing it on the mica powder treated clay. Make sure it's the new Sculpey "clear" translucent liquid not the old TLS, the old one is not that translucent.
Hi Kalyana! It’s Ruth again,? I went to your Polyclay link to buy the Pardo platinum but it won’t let me select a clay. How do I select the clay I want? The screen blinks but will not select. Thanx
Because it's out of stock. that is why I called out for people to go sign the petition, and I said that right now what Trish has in stock is all that there is left as stock in the US. You can buy the Platinum from Buddlycrafts, I forgot to add the link. It's a store in Europe that has good prices and low shipping. That is where I buy my pardo in the colors Trish doesn't have.

Working with white clay on black surface is sending your camera haywire unfortunately! The focus is jumping in and out, as it struggles to cope with the strong light contrast between black and white. Can you get a lighter background perhaps, as it's a shame not to be able to see what you are doing - it's a very helpful tutorial otherwise! 😊
Yes, that was not a very good backdrop working tile. I thought it would be better than non-gridden especially for canes, and the white ones had too much glare for the camera. Anyway, it's one of the tutorials I'm planning to re-do so all good.
I gave two “fake” smooth moonstone gems to each of my boys to hold when they miss me like a worry stone, or even to hold when they are happy. I told them a sweet story about the stones and they love it! So when they are at their dad’s house they can symbolically feel comforted and remember the moonstone story I told them and how we are connected near and far and nothing will ever separate us. I also gave one to my mom when she was sick and through this time of mourning (we both are, she lost a daughter and I lost my sister). I think they are beautiful and remind me of the colors of heaven or certain auras. Made this way they are especially less breakable when dropped on accident as would a solid “real” moonstone. In addition , making something like this is a gift from my heart and soul that I sculpted , made with much love and many blessings. More meaningful than buying a stone!!! And when my boys or mother hold their moonstones I made it does bring them comfort and faith. The love I put into them , is higher than any positive energy vibration than one I could have just bought 😊. Things become special to a person in everyone’s own way and are worth more in meaning and of the soul through faith, hope, grace, and love . It’s kind of like life: through it’s ups and downs “reality or fakeness of it,” it becomes what we make of it and life is ever so quickly fleeting . I have things that were given to me and not worth anything in monetary or “realness” (from the degree of natural nature form )-but they are some of my most prized possessions because they came to me/ were given to me, through love and kindness,. Sorry I know this was long I didn’t intend to write so much! And I am wishing you, and all who read this, many blessings, peace, and comfort ❤️ .... May your days be filled with many magical colors, moonstones , and the truth of your own heart molded and mended as “imperfectly-perfect” as love is, with the greater good to believe and feel what we can’t always see but know exists, and that is true heavenly grace and makes me happy and grateful even through the real and sometimes fake storms of life~~Where there is light, darkness can never win~~ ⛈ 💫 🌙 🌟 🌕 🌈
P.s. one other thing I like to do when I create something for someone is add a little something special inside that is symbolic to me and that person. Sometimes you can’t always see what’s inside just by looking on the outside but it’s there and a reminder that we are all special and we don’t always have to see or physically hold to have. For example, adding a small white feather inside a homemade moonstone I made is what I gave to my mom. It was my sister’s feather she had found (she always loved to explore in nature and find things so I have many fossils, rocks, etc she had found). So that is inside one of the moonstones . My little boys and I have certain things that mean something only to us (example: the number 11 is very personal and meaningful to us so inside are 11 small foil hearts, my glittery/shimmery fingerprint or kiss on top of the 11 hearts, a number 8, because that is infinity ♾, “I love you infinity ♾ “ we always say..... and the infinite seems so unreal or fake because it’s so hard to grasp the reality of what it encompasses, but the beauty and true raw- love of just the word or numbers metaphorically would take an infinity to explain (and I just checked the time on the clock it said 4:04 lol 4+4=8 😊 ). Maybe I’m nutty but there are synchronicities everywhere in life sometimes at the right moments. Maybe I’m a moonstone child with a little cray cray 😜 to the mix , but again, it’s my creation , can never be faked , and even if it shatters , breaks and makes me sad, I’ll gather up all the moonstone dust, love, blessings and infinities ♾ and blow it off my hands to the skies 🌌 to watch it sparkle with the real creation above: the true creator I call God, and that never ends, breaks or crumbles , only transfers or morphs into another shade of all the moonstones we carry in our hearts. That is “real” and always will be 🌕 💎 ✨. 🙏 I pray you make a real-fake moonstone, your moonstone; you carry some already, because if without your experience of “this makes me so sad,” you’d never know what love is--
Wow! May be the best faux gemstone with flash that I’ve seen!

I cannot find Pardo translucent other than tinted.
Where can I get clear Pardo?
Polyclayplay has it polyclayplay.com/?aff=2
@@KalyanaDesignTutorials Thanks! I just ordered some from them, and some cutters.
Love your videos! I watch them all. I don't really care for how Premo looks. I love Pardo. I wonder how Fimo translucent would look?

What is platinum
Platinum is for the Pardo brand what White Pearl is for the Premo brand. You can find it at Polyclayplay in Clay->Pardo polyclayplay.com/?aff=2
One question...are the alternating sheets you are stacking both the same mix?
It's not a mix, it's slices of the stack I make at the beginning of the video.
Eu acho essas" pedras " uma das mais bonitas que você já fez 💕
muito obrigado por suas amáveis palavras!
I have a quick question if I may... Do you let the paint dry down before you put the super thin sheet on top of the cabochon?
Absolutely. You don't put iot on the wet paint.
But don't worry, this brand of acrylic paint if very sticky, it has a glue component, so the sheet of clay on top will adhere perfectly
Wow Wow Wow!!!
Thank you!

Great job! Thank you for this! One question. Do you let the paint dry first before baking?
Yes, you always let paint dry. Otherwise the water inside might start boiling and your paint layers will have bubbles as the water evaporates

Can I make this out of a ring and beautiful job Btx!😍

Might I ask why one would want to make fake moonstones? This makes me so sad. :(
Various reasons. Jewelry design, challenge to see if you can do it, etc. Why would it make you sad?
