I have had this same heater in a 25' x 25' garage workshop for about 4 years and it is fantastic, and you can use it outside about 6 to 10 feet away blowing on you while you work on or under a car or tractor and stay toasty while the surrounding air is below freezing. Inside the thermostat works much better if it is 3 or 4 feet off the cold floor, on a sturdy table, and is much more accurate if you use a box fan to blow the air around the garage to even out the temperature.

I used the torpedo kerosene heater. If was easy to follow the instructions to burn diesel. Had ceiling fans that ran pretty much all year. That heater served me well and it gets into the minus temps here all winter. I really thought it was the ticket. That was a while ago though. Technology marches on.

Mine was delivered last night. After getting it together, I sketched out a simple design for a two wheeled cart. It will have a handle mounted in the rear. Will be able to tip the front just enough to get it off the floor for repositioning or putting away till next use. Never move with heater running.

Wow, that is such a great idea. Mine was a little hard to lift from the ground up the back of that Kawasaki mule when it was full of fuel. I have an old garden wagon that I may convert to try to do something like that. Someone commented earlier That having it a couple of feet off the ground makes the thermostat work a little better. Thanks again for the great comment.

A group of us got together at a friends house several years ago to play cards in the dead of winter. My dad borrowed one like this from work but it was bigger and man you didn't need to run it long and it was HOT. Like your desc says don't run it long in a closed area as some of them got to feeling a little bad after it ran due to the fumes.

Hi Slick ! Great video/review, very pleasing to watch. I know you wrote in the comments that there was an after-smell, but i had a thought: What about firing up the heater outside first, letting it fully warm up, and then bring it inside ? I know it's heavy, so maybe on wheels like a cart or dolly. Just an idea as i know these give off a little puff of smoke when they first fire up. Consider firing it up outside or at least aiming it out an open door at first, and then of course safely reposition it to your liking with your own method. Stay safe & be careful !! Cheers from upstate NY. 👍🇺🇸

Also forgot to mention, I believe the standard is 3 square feet of open door or window, (for fresh air) per each 100,000 BTU of direct vent heating. So figure you need at least 2.1 ft^2 for the 70,000 unit. I hope you're able to have the right amount. Have a good week !

Over the passed 30 years i think i have used them all from Kerosene to Propane in my 20x20 garage the only thing i didn't like about the Kerosene was the initial start up and shut down smell but hey it worked the propane one i have now is one of those fan powered deals it works great but it's it like a Jet engine running so i think I'm just going to mount a couple of blue flame propane heaters to the wall but at one point i did look at the Mr Heater because most people seemed very pleased with it great video. BTW Pennsylvania winters also suck 😂lol

I have this same heater and have used it for several years. I bought it for the same reasons you bought yours. It will burn diesel but it seems like it soots up some and the photo eye gets dirty the heater wont light. You get an E1 code on the display. If you retry to light it several times it will get fuel build up and eventually when ypu finally get it to light that unburned fuel will burn up at one time. Flame will come out a foot past the screen. It works best on kerosene...which unfortunately costs $5/gallon here where i live.

I never considered availability of diesel to propane or kerosene! I like that idea very much. Does the diesel have much of a smell using the Mr heater and would it be usable inside your home during power outages? Does it require A/C to run or batteries?

    • @TommyWasHere

Unfortunately Ive discovered that it does leave a sorta sweet lingering diesel smell and i will not be using it in my little shed cabin. Venting is necessary. I don’t think I would go with this for a small garage. Look at my video on my duel burner propane heater. That 70000 diesel heater gets really hot and it may stink up your car. Also look into one of those small Chinese type diesel heaters that you can vent the exhaust outside. I’m going to try the vevor or maybe spend a little extra on a Mcalory.
