what a mad band! they sound pretty cool to me. i only heard of them this evening from a guy down my local musician's pub (THE RAILWAY HOTEL, SOUTHEND, ESSEX, ENGLAND). could easily be put into the same catagory as THE FALL. nice weirdness, keep it up
This was technically the beginning of the thee oh sees sound and John Dwyer was already 34 at this time. Just imagine if John wasn't an ex speed addict and started this type of music 15 years earlier. it would prob be so unlimited and even more phenomenal than it already is.
theres no way you can say that with a straight face. and youre obviously not a musician. Ideas arent picked up like vegtables in a garden. They are developed consciously and subconcsiously. Every single thing in John's past has made him exactly who he is today. An artist's sound and aesthetic are developed over years and years. If John hadn't been smoking drugs and playing with Coachwhips. or Hospitals, Yikes!, etc etc.. we wouldnt have Thee Oh Sees as we know them now. It took him 10+ years to "start" Thee Oh See's sound. 10 years of hard work. and yes, drugs. But hard work nonetheless.
@@itsgonnbeok7249 I heard John say himself in an interview their sound before this that evolved into this, came about as a reason to due drugs "honestly" I don't think this guy said anything salacious, I think you read it and transposed your own pretensions and responded from something personnel defending someone you've never met
I’m aware of Johns drug history and the whole idea of taking drugs to make music to take drugs to. I don’t really know what that has to do with what the commenter said It is a moot point to suggest an artist would be better if they hadn’t done X drug or whatever. It just is. That’s all i’m pointing out. If John hadn’t done all the shit he did, Thee Oh sees wouldn’t exist. So to suggest they’d be better if John hadn’t been an ex speed addict is just silly to me.
Hell, when you think about it, Thee Oh Sees would't even be a tough sale. Black Keys got famous doing the garage rock thing. I mean Thee Oh Sees are many times better, but still, they're out there enough to be interesting but not so out there that they're inaccessible.
this live version is twice the speed of the one on the album. amazing vocal effects, surf guitars, thrashing drums, retro futuristic rock n roll sound. doesnt really get any better than this as far as lively human expression. hot shit.
Ya know what'd be cool? if we got a bunch of people to request Oh Sees songs and other decent music consistently at whatever lame, corporate "Alternative" station is in their town and got 'em worked into regular rotation. Then maybe we could slowly make a dent in the generally shit taste of people who still only get new music through the radio and itunes charts.
To answer my own problem: how did you call? from behind the water wall did you get full behind the wet wall? a ghost in the trees. a breeze temporarily i can see, i can see. ghosts shaking the leaves i can feel the pull
"DVD Compilation Project Hi every buddy !!! Do you have a video of us playing , or a video that you made featuring one of our songs ? Would you like to make one ? We are putting together an entirely new DVD in the upcoming future featuring more live footage and other entartaining visual entities for eye holes as well as ear holes , and would love any help we can get !! It will be extremely epic !!**
does anyone know the blue pedal Johns using I know the other is the DD-7 but is the other a echo or a distortion? also is he using a fuzz? because the round thing next to the DD-7 looks like a fuzz face or something. an answer would be much appreciated.
Thee Oh Sees - Ghost In The Trees SXSW. 1.12.24. did the band play in some Australians backyard or am I thinking this footage is that faux recollection....?
RETRO FUTURISTIC?!?!?gotta luv it.when they come back to orstraylia they really should get a moody {or goldentone, vadis, diason, maton]up'em!!!and that's no word of a lie, 'ken oath mate!!!!!

it's crazy how many genres/vibes this project has gone through
Awesome. It's great how such a unique sounding record (The Master's Bedroom...) is identical to the way they sound live. What you see is what you get.
The spark is already there
What Austin was all about when I left in 97'

Your sound/style is awesome.
Keep them coming !
You still listen to these guys?
Amazing recording for the setting.
When i saw them with Ty Segall and Sic Alps the drummer was on shrooms haha!
the real influence of king gizz, same effects, voice style etc
Dwyer is the godfather of a modern garage rock
10 years later and my tizaint still gets nipped listening to this... js
I'd be seeing this in Olympia if I hadn't moved to the desert. Mother F. Miss you rainy town.
Awesome! please, post the entire gig
makes me smile!
this is so garage love it
the only reason to go in that shed instead of paying more attention to the band is the joint they're smokin in there. that frickin rules.

No drugs = No garage-psy rock

hot shit.
There is a space echo next to the amp. It mostly sounds like a fuzz / overdrive with some reverb and/or some slapback delay.
A Boss Digital Delay DD-3 and a Dead by Audio Fuzz War.
Damn this is soooooo SXSW, playing in the fuckin dirt man
nice!
Just weird enough. Good stuff!
