Buttons instead of everything in touchscreen, YES! Plug-in hybrid, YES! Capacitor based steering wheel button, NO! This is a car I will consider in my next purchase.
I just drove a rental which had lot of buttons. I had to stop the car to find cruse control buttons as those were not visible. Tesla has very good user interface on the screen. Even my wife found everything there and she is not very good user of smart phones.

I can’t understand how an AMG can have a 3.0 i6, and an “normal” model, the 580 can have a V8, and I would say that the 580 is the best buy for this type of car
Wasn't a big fan of this iteration of the GLE when it was first launched but I have changed my opinion with time and actually really like it now. Been driving the standard GLE 450 4Matic here in the US - lovely car. Still prefer Porsche Cayenne.
Considering this is going to be more expensive than the regular 53, I rather get the slightly used 63 which has true V8, with lighter weight, and better performance. Even though it saves a lot of gas cost, I doubt that it's spending me more on maintainance or repairing even comparing to the 63, one time of that may cancel out I guess 10k miles of gas savings.
but some people want to drive fully electric to shopping and bringing kids to school so you dont need to put useless cold starts to the engine in the city
I hope in near future an experienced and objective engineer will take time and energy to explain that the only benefit of "real" exaust tips on a daily car is esthetic while the functional benefits are on the side of solutions that aren't interfering with rear bumper aerodynamics, are directioning exaust fumes to the road (less destructive towards the environment) plus some close to irelevant aspects such as less weight, spending and exposure to atmospheric influences (water entering exaust...). PS Wider tyres generally have less traction on wet surfaces as their width is calculated for dry surface promarily. Ofc most important aspect is the compound and design but in this particular case width isn't the main plus as mentioned.
An interesting review of a marque I do not much like at the moment, thank you. What interests me is the PHEV part. I have driven one for over a year now and with my driving patterns I do most mileage on electric and can top up at home from renewables. What Mercedes seems to bring to a PHEV is very sophisticated regeneration (perhaps from its racing experience) as shown by its battery hold feature. I hope Mercedes take its PHEV capability to other parts of their model range.
Sorry, mercedes. Update your interior. That's 2020 in there. Every other model has been updated for years. Give the GLE a superscreen and I'll come back from BMW.

This car is nonsense. Expensive but a watered down AMG and the headache of hybrid for 4.7? Joke. When it comes to GLE pick the 63s or 580 for comfort or the 450 for a budget option. The 53 is a weird gimmick. It's slow and rides extremely harsh and comes with 0 options. By the time you add options you're at the price of a base 63s.
It’s not going to pass. They have to get away from ICE eventually. Can’t keep running millions of cars on oil products because it will eventually run out. They’ll need clean renewable energy production.
