Hi I just want to thank you so much for sharing your knowladge! without you I would have never been able to use freecad for simulations! Thanks so much once more!

Good Stuff! Been looking for days for a simple explanation on how to place parts on a sketch! My mechanical clock is so much easier to mess with now! thank you!

0:00 - intro - describe what video is about (explain diff between a2plus, asm3, and a4 workbenches)
    0:11 - theory - explain how a2plus & asm3 work
    1:36 - theory - explain how asm4 works
    3:32 - explain diff between asm3,a2plus and asm4
4:00 - begin construction of scissor parts (sketch with constraints)
5:28 - create part, drag padded sketch (body) into part using `combo view`
6:30 - explain how body/part coordinate systems can not be used with asm4 workbench
    6:50 - (asm4) make a `lcs` local coordinate system for the `body`
    7:00 - (asm4) create an asm4 model (hide `the ??? thing`) within the `parts` folder using `spacebar`
    7:20 - (asm4) create a `master sketch`,
10:14 - (asm4) define coordinate system for `master sketch` (create four coordinate sys using asm4 wb)
10:38 - (asm4) set the map mode for the first coord sys
11:35 - (asm4) explain part (arm) needs to be imported into the asm4 model
11:54 - (asm4) explain, the lcs within the part (arm) needs to be attached to one of the `lcs's` within the asm4 model by using map mode
13:03 - (asm4) hide part (within the parts folder `spacebar`), import part into the asm4 model "group" using the `import button` from the asm4 toolbar
13:30 - (asm4) insert part 4x into asm4 model (perform insert operation four times)
14:29 - (asm4) UNDO/DELETE created parts (the imported parts within the asm4 model)
14:40 - (asm4) recreates the coord system `lcs` for the part (arm)
15:00 - (asm4) recreate the four imported parts using the `import button` from the asm4 toolbar
16:40 - (asm4) uses the `move/attach` toolbar button to place the `imported parts (4x)` within the assembly
18:00 - (asm4) create `variables` using asm4 toolbar button to properly set the length of the arms
    18:37 - (asm4) reference/define the variables within the `master sketch`
    19:48 - (asm4) ref/defind the variables within the `part` (arm) within the `parts folder`
20:19 - (asm4) update the length/variable reference of the sketch within the part (the sketch that is used to create the pad of the original body)
21:40 - (asm4) change values of variables and watch the magic happen 🕴
    22:03 - (asm4) explain animation within the asm4 wb
24:13 - (asm4) explain original sketch (part/arm) can be edited, and assembly should update without exploding 🤯
leaving this for future me 👴🏼

Great tutorial! I found out that besides clicking Rot X to place the arms right then to have each arm in different height (level) one can click Rot Y so that the arms shifts between being above, below, above. below one another. Thanks a lot - you have really helped me getting started with Assembly 4. In the beginning I was really confused because the user interface of the Assembly 4 Workbench has changed its design so that there are other buttons and dialogs than older tutorials show so good to have it explained. I very much like that the Sketches hold the dynamic variables so that there is not too much assembly specific stuff, but instead Assembly 4 reuses a lot of previous components like Sketches, parts and the stuff made for FreeCAD 0.19 re. linking.

Quick question: Am I the only one who gets a lot of these in the 'Report view'?
PartDesign::CoordinateSystem / LCS_1: Links go out of the allowed scope
, what is this warning caused by - is it some internal fluke or should I just ignore it?
I mean everything seems to work well, because the scissor animation plays very well, but the message occurs several times while the animation runs.

Hi. Followed up to "insert a part ...." ...... it doesn't insert. My tree looks like yours, no error message either. Another weird thing is my LCS axis don't go to the start of the four links, they seem random in position and direction (always puts blue axis in correct axis (along element) but some go north and some go south ....HELP!!

It would have been cool to import an assembly 4 animation to blender and render it there any ideas anybody

      @cmj317 3 года назад +2

I just rig and render in blender. Works well. If you set different colors for each body and export as OBJ it will open up as separate meshes in Blender with coordinate origins intact.
