Mafia II probably has the most realistic vehicle physics of any open world game.

@@Versuffe no its still a feature. Its not a detail. The problem is that in its time games of this scale it should be a standard to swim. But they dont have too. Imagine when Far Cry 6 comes out and turns out you cant swim. Or better yet wouldnt know cause they didnt put large bodies of water in game.

I think it's more about the underwater detail. GTA has it, but not Mafia, as it's just pitch black and inaccessible.

5:01 it happen because some modern cars don't have double rims on their wheels. But, some classic Cars have hubcaps on their wheels.

Even though I prefer GTA. The mafia series is so very clever with all of its little realistic features.

@Runar Pettersen it's older than GTA V, it's closer to GTA IV in age and on that you could only swim and that has always been a GTA feature. Maf 2 was ahead of its time...

2:35 there is a major attention to detail. There is an angle on the front axle so that the steering wheel turns back to its straight position. Yet, gta does not have that. But mafia 2 does.

It’s an Alloy. And they can’t be shot off. Older cars have Hubcaps. So don’t know what he was expecting.
He should have used a Roosevelt or customized the car with Lowrider wheels (there's a hubcap wheel in that category) for GTA 5.

5:17 Very extremely good job by making the windshield realistic, windshields are nearly bullet resistant.
Actually that is not realistic at all. The bullet would have went through the windshield, but it wouldn't have broken completely because the windshield has 3 layers. First layer, the glass, second layer a transparent thick foil, and third glass again. The foil is there so the windshield doesn't brake into tiny pieces, like it does in GTA. It is not realistic

Oranges and apples, GTA V is all about giving as much freedom to the player as possible, compromises have to be made on small things. These are two very different games and should not be compared.

I wanted to try everything to damage the rim. The bullets doesn't make any noticeable damage in GTA V, while in Mafia II they make holes even through the hubcap. You can see holes in the rim after the hubcap falls.

I suggest playing 1 and 2 if you want to, the third is sorta a let down

its clear that both games have their cons and pros, but I think it's pretty clear that they are both quite good games of their time
One thing about the wheels gtav had rims mafia 2 had caps on the rims idk if the gta cars with caps (if they even exist) do fall of but its just an observation. Nice vid!

Mafia 2 is a 12-year-old game, at that time graphics, physics, everything was at a high level, this DEFINITIVE EDITION did not give any big improvements in physics, NPC models, only a little improved lighting, some textures, they did not invest any big effort in this remaster!
I remember i was disappointed with mafia 2 when it came out...after the first game i had so many expectations, now when im older i realize its all about the story, free roam is almost non existent...
About the details, nobody comes close to rockstar...i learned that a long time ago

You shot the hubcaps off in Mafia 2, the car you were shooting at in GTA 5 didn't have any.

technically you can not compare mafia 2 to grand theft auto they are worlds apart so therefore there is no real comparison of the 2 games
Mafia 2 Is Extremely Emotional And That's Why I Like It 100 Times More Than GTA V. I'm Not Saying GTA Is Bad, Mafia 2 Just Has a Better Story. Mafia 2 Is Emotional, Sad And Real Life, It Teaches That Being a Criminal Can Change You And Ruin Your Life, GTA V On The Other Hand Is a Game Made For Having Fun And Fooling Around. Both is nice but also Both studios need to look how vechicle looks after for example 2 mags from AR or AK and then be a little bit more realistic. I know the explosions from Hollywood is good but better system is real life samples

That's the only 1 downpoint you got here. First go play that game and see. It's not all about open world. Even though it isn't an open world game, mafia 2 scores better than most gta games in few reasons. Mafia games always excels Rockstar games with detail and physics.
