The Display has nothing to do with this problem, your display was fine. The problem was in the cable connecting your display to the motherboard it's called LVDS cable. It would have costed you a 100$ maximum, but apple charged you a whole new 27"" display because they want more profit, and of course they took the 600$ and the old display an d gave another one. Anyway i hope your mac is doing great!
Ha ha ha! That was fast! I thought to myself: "I will post this video and in less than one day someone will tell EXACTLY what was going on, saying that it would be some silly under-fifty-bucks repair!" I really appreciate it. You are absolutely right: I am 100% sure they replaced the whole monitor - my original iMac's glass already had some minor usage marks AND the LED backlight was not so bright neither perfectly uniform anymore... Well, I bought an expensive new monitor - at least thats the silver lining I tell myself to feel less unfortunate :)
You're right. Anyway i forgot to tell you something... It also might be the ribbon cable connecting the LCD(LED backlight) display to it's own little board, in both cases it's a 100$ in worst cases. A whole display replacement means that the display is broken and yours wasn't.
I wonder if the outcome would have been different if taken to a different Apple Store (lets say, in California)... anyway that's what I got. Your information is very useful and maybe someone with a similar problem as mine can read this and save some precious money!
They boot up your Mac through the network, using a special disk image containing lots of test apps made by Apple itself - it is not something you can buy or download somewhere. I saw he using it, it takes a few minutes to perform lots of GPU tests - and ind the end, it did not pass.
I have the exact same problem and Apple wants the same prices for the repairs. What is the name of the LED/LCD cable and where can I purchase one? I've already found the LVDS cable on ebay. Thank you.
and fortunately up until now? The odd are you will not have such issues. Im in my mid 70s and have been a mac user since the late 70s. I ALWAYS bought used Apples and I NEVER even had so much as a HDD failure in all those years. It was only recently that my 2011 27" GPU failed after buying it used and using it for 6 years. And guess what? I was not afraid to buy another one just like it (only $200!) swapping out my ram and SSDs to put in the replacement that was hardly used. I love iMacs just like Geek here... If you dont need to be on the bleeding edge? Buy used and save BIG!
I had exactly the same problem this month (November 2018) on my 2013 27" iMac purchased in February 2014. I took it into the Apple Store, expecting a bill for £600 after seeing your video. In the UK we have stronger consumer protection and it appears we are able to make a claim against Apple up to 6 years after the date of delivery. This is on the basis that UK consumer law does not think it is reasonable that a top of the line £2000 computer should fail within 6 years. Apple did not even argue, they offered to repair it free of charge without me asserting my rights at all.
Thank you so much for sharing your story - and I am glad you could have it fixed under warranty :) It should be like this in all countries... but, well, that's life and we should fight to get it more fair.
Thx for the post. I am having the same problem with iMac M1 2021. That too within 18 months. Can you suggest options ? Other than going to Apple service store. ( Diagnostics shows no hardware issue and OS reinstall does not help).
Hum… I am sorry, but yeah, my suggestion at this point is exactly looking for Apple Support - or any reputable (that’s the tricky thing isn’t it?) technical support that works with Macs.
@@GeekDetour Agree. Apple Support and Store just do very very very basic diagnostics and just suggest I change the display. They neither seem convincing nor invested. They just say this is the "Apple Way" ......there is no "repair" in their dictionary, they rather only believe in replace ( part or whole) .........did you try Factory Reset ? do you think Factory Reset helps get rid of display issues ?
I wanted to know if you have seen or heard of the White Vignet border appearing around the screen. My I Mac 27" I have had for some time, late 2012 and when I came in today and pulled it out of sleep mode I had a very pronounced white vignet around the screen outer edges. Any ideas what causes this?
Currently my roommate in university is experiencing glitching with her 2018 MacBook Pro without the Touch Bar. I suggested to her that it might be GPU or display related, as you mentioned in the video. Thanks for sharing your story with the Apple Mac community, even though we have yet to find a solution for the aforementioned technical difficulties.
@@Lanreolokunola I have the same macbook and am having this issue as well. Apple quoted me about $800 in Australia to fix / replace the whole display. So so frustrating and expensive!
Just had this problem with my Macbook 13". It slipped off the bed (not the first time) and then the lines at the bottom of the screen started. No damage, screen hinges normal. My first thought was a video connection to the display had come loose, not a processor or card failure.
I love how you told/showed this story! It was also educational, and I got a few nuggets of information for Mom's iMac, which is the same one as yours and having the same issue. Thank you for posting it.
Thank you! I really appreciate! Could you have your mama’s iMac fixed? Tell us how it went! Also, you might find this other video of mine useful: ruclips.net/video/Aefc75htTNo/видео.html
@@GeekDetour I did tons and tons of research, took pages of notes, backed *everything* up, then plugged it in to my Apple monitor. It hasn't done a thing wrong since, and I have no idea why. I am very happy it's behaving so well, but I am kinda disappointed I didn't get to take it apart. I suppose I could upgrade the hard drives ... :-)
I have an artifac & glitch screen error when using Cartoon Animator 4 software. I use Macbook Pro early2011 8 GB RAM, and graphic card Intel HD Graphics 3000 512 MB. Is it because of the insufficient graphics card issue ?
Hello Brian 👋 My iMac 2013 is still working fine after Apple replaced the display - it is still my main computer for everything I do: video editing, 3D modeling on Fusion 360, 3D printing, Web development and App design 😆 A lot of things going on in this machine - several external hard disks and it is never turned off... almost 8 year old machine now 🤯😬
I have no idea... it happened with mine, but I never read something pointing to that. For example: the newer MacBooks had keyboard problems, widely known. But the iMacs were kind of solid so far.
Thank you so much, merouane slimani! I don’t post as frequently as most channels - this is why my channel has a slow (although steady) growth. You just made my day 😊
I had a similar problem with my mid 2010 15inch MBP. Apple replaced at no cost to me the motherboard and GPU, 5 years after purchase and 1 year after the repair program ended. Its now 8 years old and runs perfectly, albeit with 256SSD and 8GB ram upgrades.
I'm also having the same problem on a 2013 iMac and like you I left it on most of the time. Maybe turning it off would make this computer last longer? Anyway, for 600€, I would rather buy a new one that replace the part as with a 2013 computer, more things will go wrong in the near future for sure...
I just restarted my MacBook and my problem went away myself. I really got concerned watching this video. Thankfully the comments cheered me up and also my problem vanished.
hi, when you sent your laptop and got it back did it start up like normal? No issues since you fixed it? Also did you experience any loss of data? I’m having the same issue and I’m worried about that happening. I have my stuff on iCloud but I’m just anxious
Hi there! Well, it was not my laptop. If you watch the video, you will see it was my iMac. Nothing got lost - they didn’t change the hard disks. But I also use TimeMachine and iCloud, so, I was not too worried.
@@GeekDetour thank you so much for responding! I appreciate your video! Sorry for typo yes your iMac! It looks like for my MacBook I will have to pay 528$ for a new screen repair. Hopefully there’s a fast turn around because I’m a student.
They told me the Display was the problem and the display was changed (I can confirm the display was really changed because I knew a few little marks in the glass and the backlight was already not that homogeneous - they really replaced the whole thing). Could it be just part of the display and they simply made me buy the whole thing unnecessarily? Yes. It is possible.
Those are tho ONLY moments I kind of regret by not using some ordinary, highly modular, PC. In a normal PC world, a brand new 1440p 27" monitor would cost around $300!

Hi great video, I got two thin vertical lines, one red and one blue on the left third of the screen. I have got a mid 2007 20 inch iMac. The lines are there all the time, even when booting, what could be my issue?
Im still on mid 2011 iMac, that one of the whole line of models with "problematic GPUs”(also have a MacBook Pro with same potential problem). It shows some glitches time to time, like flickering, pattern of blue pixels, etc... but not very often, like some times about just 5-10 minutes after "cold start”, and then nothing weird for weeks.
Natorisama, hey 👋. Oh! These intermittent glitches are very irritating - even more if you try to show them on a repair shop and they suddenly hide in fear 😄. I hope you can save the money for a new machine 🖥 before your oldie crashes definitely. Good luck! 🍀
If it may help someone, my problem happened on a 20" iMac mid 2009 iMac after I converted it to a solid state drive. The LCD was really erratic and jumping all over the place and a lot worse than yours. I was really careful about putting everything back together (so I thought) including the LVD ribbon cable back to the logic board, but I did not pay much attention to the 4 inverter wires because I assumed there was no way one could connect them the wrong way because I thought the connectors would not align or plug in and that they were specific to each set of wires, which was not the case. Moreover, I was told the inverter wires polarity didn't matter even if I connected them the wrong way. So, I took the iMac apart again, removed the LVD cable and reattached it and I flipped the inverter cables around, put it back together and the screen was like new again. So, I'm not sure what actually caused or may have fixed my erratic screen issue, but it was worth a try.
Hi Stanley - thank you for this information, it is so important that people share their experiences about what went wrong and if/how it was possible to fix it! Awesome :)
I turned on my Mac computer ( which is now 7 years old) and see a ? in the middle of a file in the middle of the screen. what does this mean? how can I fix it?... Thankyou in advance.
oi Everson!
I have a problem on my MacBook Pro 2012. Can someone help me? When I go into a game, it has red / blue flickering dots (tiny pixels). It even happens when i'm watching RUclips. If you could help, that would be VERY MUCH appreciated.
Hi Jexx, I am afraid there would be no home remedy for what is happening to your computer. Why don’t you take it to an Apple Store and let they make an evaluation?
Nice story telling and yes I agree with others below; you have a very interesting voice that is fun to listen to. You might consider sending a voice demo to Disney, Pixar etc and you might just get a role as an extra/voice extra. My 2011 iMac 27" suddenly gave me the 'pink jail bars of destiny" during a Zoom lecture I was giving from home for my university, which was hilarious. While I checked out your vid on the off chance it would relate, I ended up watching just because you were so entertaining. Points to you. Now I'll need to go off to find my solution but I'm glad I saw this, it lifted my mood!
Please Help me! My screen on my MacBook Air has thick black/blue lines, and they've gotten bigger! My computer overheats easily, beacause its 3 years old, but please help!
I bought a 2017 Mac Book Air and noticed that when I turned it on, it would briefly flash a screen of rainbow colours (not like the bars on a TV shown in this video at the start, but rather like a series of small colourful dots mixed together). Stuff like this started to happen on an old Mac right before the hard drive failed so i got super freaked out and demanded that Apple replace my new Mac. Then they took this mac back and there was no replacement because they were no longer selling this model (old stock). So I searched and finally found another new one. I now have it set up and have been using it for two weeks, and voila! same problem. Any thoughts on what this might be and if it's an issue that should send me back to Apple demanding another replacement or is it not a big issue and I should just keep this computer??
It happens an hour ago and my macbook display screen cracked due to the bump on the screen, even though the glass screen looks all completely fine. Tough luck for me as I’ll off to apple fixing straight off tomorrow 😣 My mac is really slim, if you know the macbook with rose gold? Yep, that one. Is it has to do with the durability? Like if the more thicker mac, the more stronger screen durability? (I heard it from my friend actually).
Hi Mirage 👋 I hope you can have it fixed or replaced. Well, I think anything lighter/thinner tends to be more delicate... But overall, Apple products are very durable compared to similar items from other brands.
I have the same problem on my macbook pro mid 2014 and its a Retina display. It flickers after turning it on. When I turn it on its fine, but after 2 to three minutes of usage the issue happens. I have not hit my MacBook anywhere and the laptop has just been on my desk. I have tried all gpu resets, and all the different software issues and the screen has refused to get well. But when connected to another monitor, it works very well. So I don’t know whether the problem is with the whole screen or the lvds cable as told by someone in the comments
You are quite frankly AWESOME! Clearly a super positive person, very intelligent and thankful for everything. Very admirable. I wish you could teach cheap get arounds for DJ gear inventions - its such an expensive hobby!
Wow, thank you for these more than kind words! ❤️☺️ DJeying seems to be so much fun! Once I got tempted to pay for a course on Electronic Music Production here in Madrid... but that’s something I need to avoid: I find so many things to be interesting, it is impossible to dive in all of it. I’ve been making an effort to keep focused on less stuff 😁
@@GeekDetour haha I can imagine! Yes keep your focus, it's inspiring and all with great incentive! my mac is where i play.my games ( idk why mac, couldve been windows :/ ). yesterday everytime i play a game through steam or wine, the screen goes black then theres a black line in the middle and glitching, and thus another black screen, i was forced to restart it. its weird the issue only happens when i play games. any help?
I really liked your video. I was suspecting the display cables of my Toshiba Satellite Radius P55W-B5224 laptop (wait a minute, why this guy is here, this is a iMac discussion!?!) for the same issue. Your video posting and the discussion of @Y010 confirmed that I need to wait before attempting to replace the screen (which is more than $200 (because it is a combo of LCD and Touch screen) just for parts alone. I hooked up my laptop to an external monitor via a HDMI cable and watched a movie for more than 1 hour, which was perfect. However, it did not occur to me that for that one hour, it was damaging the laptop's screen, which I am realizing now since I had not disconnected the display cables of my laptop while watching the movie in the external monitor. Your video presentation style is great. Keep up the good work - you and @Y010.
I swear to god as I was watching this video my screen glitched the hell out I’m on my phone LOOOL the Mac is only a month old I can’t with Apple products
I had a similar problem with my 2013 MacBook Air screen. I took it into my local Apple store and it turned out my logic board was corrupted. So I had to replace the display clamshell and logic board, which totalled to ~$1200. Luckily, even though my warranty for the mac had expired, I didn't have to pay the fee as I was still covered under my country's consumer law and certain events transpired so that Apple had to cover the cost of the damages (phew!).
my 2015 leaves imprints from the internet all over the screen, weird, screen saver helps, but can't use it all the time. It's like the internet bleeds out all over the screen, and if using multiple aps it gets real bad.
Friends iMac (A1419 late 2013 27") ran into the exact same issue with the display being faulty. 'Apple Genius's' ran their diagnostic test and claimed logic board (GPU) needed replacing. However, as I've learned from experience with vehicles, electronics, etc., I have a hard time trusting people despite their job title. Powered the iMac, all 4 diagnostic lights illuminated green essentially saying all hardware is recognized and is communicating/functioning properly. Plugged in an external monitor via thunderbolt -> displayport and long and behold, visuals were perfectly normal meaning logic board is fine. LCD was the culprit. I'm surprised the display goes faulty before any hardware, such a shame as this should be the last to go. Had requested Apple to provide a quote on a display replacement, all 4 tech support agents via 1-800-my-apple said a quote was not possible and that I had to physically come into the store for a quote. Had booked a date/time with Apple, went in store to obtain quote, their manager said they do not provide display replacements anymore for this iMac. The option they gave was $1000 in-store credit to 'upgrade' to their new line of iMac's and toss the old one. Had sourced a display (third-party) for $600 USD, everything works 100% now. It's just odd that they wanted to replace the logic board for $500 USD (despite it working fine) which wouldn't have fixed the issue, and then they're unable to replace the primary issue (display). Such a money grab, with their grossly inflated spinning hard drives, laptop hardware stuffed into a 'desktop' and unable to replace parts after 7 years. Was debating on splurging on a Macbook for work as I'm mildly impressed with their software, however there are too many design flaws with cooling, and electrical pathways which make zero sense. It looks like they're 'improving' however still going to observe from other peoples experiences.
Thank you for sharing your experience with details! Yeah man... Apple is not nice in the “maintenance” aspect - overall I think the machines and the software are well designed, but if hardware goes bad, the economic solution is really trying to find a trusty third party technician (which is not easy).
currently having this problem on and off. i had my display replaced 10 months ago for a crack (🤦🏻♀️) so im hoping it's still under warranty from the repair.... pray 4 me
My pretty old Sony TV got the same but worse screen Glitches with green, red and black colored lines bars squares and then it slowly gets darker and darker and then the screen went all black and the TV automatically shut down happens after every 2 hours everyday.
I have a 32 inch msi curved and have this problem only when I start up my pc, within a minute it's fine and has bin like this for months as my cover ran out last year for it, so will just see how it goes I suppose
Well I had that problem on 2 iMacs I had (still have one) but since they were old at the time I replaced them with a newer model. I couldn't find anything on the internet about the problem. Since I didn't want to pay repair half of the price of a new one I bought a recenter model. I have my Macs (from the first performa) till now always very long. The last I changed in November last year (cause no more updates).
Hi Tania! Yes. Usually, Macs usually have a long lifespan: my main computer is still this iMac 2013 (8 years old now), and I also have a 2011 MacBook Pro (10 years!). I use the "DosDude1" Catalina Patch on that MacBook (it 'hacky', but it made possible to run Mac OS Catalina on it).
i have the same problem with my 2011 27 inch imac but it does not happen all the time. it works perfectly then every so often the problem comes. i just turn it off and bingo it works fine. And it has been like that since i got it a year and half ago. i notice it happens more in hot whether and i am thinking it is an overheating problem leading to the distorted display. I cracked the glass screen and recently bought a screen / lcd for $80 so i might change the lcd when i upgrade the hard drive to SSD. I wish i knew what the problem was.
I owned a macbook pro before. Had same problem, then i bought a new macbook air because i dont have the guts to repair as it was quite costly. And 2 years later, the macbook air had the same problem. And from wht i read, mac will always hav this display problem and it varies. It somehow makes me lost faith in having another macbook. Certainly not gonna buy an imac unless i will get married to a guy that could fix it for free for me. I wish apple could improve this problem though.
Wow, what a bad luck! I had a MacBook White 2009 that is still working fine... and last year a relative of mine gave me a 2011 MacBook Pro that is now my computer for travels. Macs usually work for many many years - well, or at least they used to.
Hi Geek Deour, nice to meet you! I have a problem with my mac, is a large history. One day, I using my Macbook Pro 13'' Mid 2012, (using Normal apps), I shutting down my mac. The next day, the mac doesn't work, It didn't turn on and it not play anything sound. I went to a Macstore and They said it is motherboard. 2 month ago, the mac surprising and work normally. Before some hours using my mac, the screen did not work, reflected streaks like a tv when doesn't have network. I turn off with de button and turn on again normally. Sometimes, the screen do not work. Is probable Could it be the hard drive?
purchased 2017 MacBook Pro 15" with Touch Bar a week after had to get screen replaced thankfully it was free but then 3 months later had to get it repaired again logic board failed (again was free to get it fixed). I have started noticing that there are dead pixels showing up on the display again and screen is starting to flicker. :(
Hello there I had a similar problem with my 2009 IMac. It started with just a small horizontal black line about the middle height of the screen. I though to my self that it was just some dead screen pixels and it would not affect anything else. But after using it for some days the screen started to have flicking problems and screen refreshing rate problems. Then a huge blured screen appeared on the half bottom part. After a month of using 2 hours daily I got to a point that I could just see the start bar on the top of the screen. The mouse pointer only appears there and the rest is either all black or with a blur. One day I had a moment when the screen made a complete refresh. And all the elements of the desktop were there. But after some minutes the desktop items where on the screen but just as phantoms. The mouse pointer didn't passed down from a very small part of the top of the screen (The refresh rate was only at the above 2 cm of the top screen) wich made me able to see the start bar and a couple of desktop pastes. Unfortenly I don't have a backup of anything over the desktop (a lot of files). So my million dollar question is: How did the technician connected the secondary monitor to the Imac. That would solve my problem as I would then be able to remove all the desktop files into my usb drive disk. Many Thanks.
your standard Apple warranty will expire about a week before it breaks. Unless you have an iPhone 10. Those have already broken days after it was released. if you have Safeware, ...
I had the same problem with my mac and it was actually the graphics card that was defective. I didn't have to pay anything whatsoever and I was way past the warranty.
Hey, I am glad to heard that! With the iPhone 5 and with my MacBook White 2009 I got a free substitution and free repairs - way past the warranty. So, in general I think Apple has a great care with their customers.
My 2013 iMac just did this and I came on youtube and saw your video. Your issue looks a bit diff than mine. Mine was going complete white screen with a black box where the login is and I couldn't move anything. Then It crashed a program and flickers off on the sides. It seems we can't do anything about it... but one thing I am doing right now... using time machine. I really didn't want to buy a new computer just yet ( wanted to wait for the next iMac ) but, if I see this continue...then I gotta do what I gotta do :(
Hi Steve! Yeah... time has passed so quickly! My wife and I had a baby girl and... everything else got slowed down. There are several videos in the making - but I couldn't finish them yet.
My 2014 MacBook Pro had a problem with the battery expanding, is out of warranty and Apple fixed it for free (new top case/battery/keyboard/trackpad) + replacement motherboard because the expanded battery broke the part where a cooler screw lock on it. When I reported on Apple Chat they won’t fix for free, but I complained again when they asked me how was their support and lucky me, after they look at my machine they decided to fix it for free. 2014 MBP is almost “vintage” so they probably want to use all remains parts still left to open espace.
I use the Audio-Technica ATH-M40x: - amzn.to/2mYJd4A (Amazon USA), - amzn.to/2nLigQY (Amazon UK), - amzn.to/2oKKtF4 (Amazon Germany), - amzn.to/2on4yFg (Amazon España), - amzn.to/2nLpJ2b (Amazon France) and - amzn.to/2nLdeUt (Amazon Italia) The ATH-M40x is very underrated, an AWESOME Studio Monitor for the price. The ATH-M50x is considerably more expensive and has more bass than a Studio Monitor for video/music mixing should have (in my opinion).
The best thing you can do is, at least, take it to an Apple Store and let them verify what is happening and check how much money they ask for repairing it - you never know: maybe it is cheaper than you imagine, maybe it is a problem they are repairing for free (I am assuming you are out of warranty)... If they ask for something overly expensive, only then you should look for other repair shops.
this only happens to me (MacBook Air 2018) when I try to close a program & it doesn't want to close... so rarely but its happened 2 times now and im scared
My new macbook did just that, I recently ordered it from the apple store and after I set up the laptop, the screen was flickering and the colors kind of distorted and saturated. Then I noticed faint white horizontal bars on the left side of the screen. Disappointed, I'm not sure if the delivery guy dropped by accident that caused that damage :/ plus I really need that laptop for school and work. I'm sure apple will give me a new replacement for that one.
Hi Everson I have a flickering issue on my macbook 12" retina display. It only happens with light colors and white background like google for example. It starts to blink fast with gray but only when it has a white background all other colors dont blink. I have inverted the color on the display to be able to work in it but I don't think the display is bad. I have no money to replace the display. I am unable to record it on camera or screen record the error. It can only be seen with the eyes aparently. Does anyone have an idea of what could it be? They want me to pay $1000 from a $1500 macbook which I consider less expensinve to buy a brand new one
Geek Detour the glitches are visible if i record them using my phone or any other device but if i take a screenshot on my macbook, and open that screenshot on my phone, it doesn't show any of the glitches. is it a display problem?
Your video was perfect and put me on the right track. Thank you it fixed my problem by plugging in my monitor cable properly. I will leave a full account with final outcome. My mid 2011 screen started flickering in Roblox games in the same way as what your video shows after I replaced the hard drive with an SSD. Part of the OWC SSD instal process(lots of videos available) was to remove and replace the monitor along with pulling the monitor ribbon cable from the tiny ribbon cable slot on the main board and then plugging it back in. The connection seemed sloppy when I put it back in upon reassembly but I thought it was good enough, how it's suppose to be and put it back together. That's when my screen flickering problem started and became worse and variable over time of a couple weeks. I ran the Apple diagnostic using the D key on start up and no problems were found, but considering if there was a loose connection the diagnostic result would be variable on a given moment. I switched memory with known working memory, nothing, still flickering. Finally I pulled the glass, on magnets for 2011, unscrewed the 8 monitor screws, tilted out the monitor and properly plugged in the cable on the main board. Problem solved and looks better than ever. SSD upgrade was also simple and mid 2011 works like lightning.
I had a display on my MacBook replaced within the first year because of a hinge problem, then when it was getting near 4 years old it started getting a splodgy shadow in the centre, they reckoned it was “bruising” of the LCD, I believe it was due to the glue between the display and the light up Apple logo. I fought Apple for 3 months until they caved and had it replaced free of charge. It was only when I emailed Tim that anything really got done.
Do you think this defect (flickering) is intentional? Looks like a hidden program running to flicker our iMacs. Apple got caught already slowing old iPhone & iPad devices. They want us to buy new iMacs. 2011 models still work fine.
If the iMac really has a computer inside - Tam-tam-taaaaaamm! Ha ha ha. Hi Jace! So, when it was happening, the first thing I did was taking a screenshot and screen capturing - the captured images were all fine... it all points to something happening on the display (to me, it really looked like hardware glitches). Apple makes SO MUCH money selling real accessories and iPhones that simulating a defect on the iMac would be an expensive way to make a few bucks from some customers (AND it also hurts the satisfaction with the brand). I would love to buy the gray iMac Pro - but it is REALLLY expensive!
@@jasemshatee8547 hii. it’s been a really long time hehe sorry. but i haven’t fixed it, my macbook is kind of old and my charger is broken and they are expensive lol so i can’t use it. but i’m probably buying a new one but maybe u can go to a apple store and they can help u solve the problem, that’s the only way i think.
It's happening to me Mac right now! There are a thousand white lines forming a box of shaking lines with a duplicate of the top of my screen. Like right now the box has this comment in it. It also has this set of multicolored lines at the left side thats going vertical. This Mac is only about 1 year old and my friend's bugged animation caused ALL THIS. So after I finish this comment I'll stop playing. It's very annoying I can't see anything in Star Stable which is the content I upload on this channel. This was a very helpful video, thank you. I will talk to my dad immediately and we are thinking of taking it to the Apple Store to fix, or just getting a new one. This was only $1,000 dollars as it was on a discount and it is only a MacBook, not a MacBook Pro or anything else. So this time we're fortunate!
Oh boy... there is not much you can do besides taking it to Apple (or authorized repair center). I did this video so anyone having the same problem have an idea of what to expect (in my case, a big repair bill). Good luck!
Yep. They replaced the whole LCD/Glass front panel. Of course it is an unexpected spending... but I tried to find something 'good' about the whole thing, and there is one: the original display's backlight LEDs were not that uniform anymore (on a completely white screen I could see some areas near the border that were getting darker than the rest) - it was very discrete, but well, I could notice it if paying attention. With the new display, as expected, everything is uniform again.
i am watching your video with my screen flickering lol. exempt its displaying the windows 10 welcome screen on the top half of my screen, int splitters vertical lines... quite weird. no issue on my external screen
Thank you.
Apple products are really good until you run into a problem, you start questioning its worth when you see the repair bill
So true!
and fortunately up until now? The odd are you will not have such issues. Im in my mid 70s and have been a mac user since the late 70s. I ALWAYS bought used Apples and I NEVER even had so much as a HDD failure in all those years. It was only recently that my 2011 27" GPU failed after buying it used and using it for 6 years. And guess what? I was not afraid to buy another one just like it (only $200!) swapping out my ram and SSDs to put in the replacement that was hardly used. I love iMacs just like Geek here... If you dont need to be on the bleeding edge? Buy used and save BIG!
I love the way you tell your story
Hey, thank you Devon! That was really sweet - I appreciate it!
Me too!
I love this man's voice
Thank you Larry Juarez! I really appreciate!
Geek Detour My pleasure
Geek Detour do u know to fix burn screen problem in MacBook 2016
Your voice is like rough silk going deep in my throat....love it
Oh my... I am blushing :)

How did she solve it?
@@Lanreolokunola I have the same macbook and am having this issue as well. Apple quoted me about $800 in Australia to fix / replace the whole display. So so frustrating and expensive!
@@annalysegraham4155 you can buy a cheaper display on eBay

Thank you Zlerner 😊 Ha ha ha, I appreciate your flattering words 😄
oh man im having this right now. my imac started showing some glitch/artifacts on the screen
My 2017 model bought just 2 years ago. Going to pick up today. Display failure too. Hope it works for long term??
Hello Brian 👋 My iMac 2013 is still working fine after Apple replaced the display - it is still my main computer for everything I do: video editing, 3D modeling on Fusion 360, 3D printing, Web development and App design 😆 A lot of things going on in this machine - several external hard disks and it is never turned off... almost 8 year old machine now 🤯😬
Is this display problem common with this particular model or series from 2013?
I have no idea... it happened with mine, but I never read something pointing to that. For example: the newer MacBooks had keyboard problems, widely known. But the iMacs were kind of solid so far.
When i saw the video i expected at least 100k subscribers, video quality is awesome 👏
Thank you so much, merouane slimani! I don’t post as frequently as most channels - this is why my channel has a slow (although steady) growth. You just made my day 😊
when will be new video?
I had a similar problem with my mid 2010 15inch MBP. Apple replaced at no cost to me the motherboard and GPU, 5 years after purchase and 1 year after the repair program ended. Its now 8 years old and runs perfectly, albeit with 256SSD and 8GB ram upgrades.
Woahh you have the perfect voiceover voice. I even forgot my MacBook is having issues for minute.
Thank you! Very kind! ❤️ The funny accent might not help, though 😁
Geek Detour you’re most welcome and thank heavens I had a glitch most probably because of low power on my MBA. But thanks for your concern. Rock on!
What's The Solution For Thin Red Line On Mac Desktop?
I'm also having the same problem on a 2013 iMac and like you I left it on most of the time. Maybe turning it off would make this computer last longer? Anyway, for 600€, I would rather buy a new one that replace the part as with a 2013 computer, more things will go wrong in the near future for sure...
I also thought of buying a new one at the time - but I was broke, so, I just repaired it... the choices we take 🥺
@@GeekDetour I will probably buy a display screen for my MacBook. I will miss the big screen...
I have the same problem on my Mac touch bar 15" 2016 is new one :( . they will cover with the warranty ?
now can you fix this problem (i not sure to buy macbook pro 2016)
thankyou
What did thy tell you as to what was the issue and what was changed.
Well, you could technically connect an external monitor to your iMac, but then it wouldn't be an all-in-one PC, would it? And it would look messy.
Holy moly for 660$ you can get a decent PC and you get to keep your Mac and use your pc's monitor with mac too best of both worlds

Awesome :)
Geek Detour thanks and you did an excellent job on your video. It captured the feelings you were going through.
My mac screen haves lines and i dont know how to fix it
Nice story telling and yes I agree with others below; you have a very interesting voice that is fun to listen to.
Wow, thank you so much for your kind words! Oh man... I am sorry for your iMac. I hope you can fix it easily - please let me know how it goes!

Tough luck for me as I’ll off to apple fixing straight off tomorrow 😣
My mac is really slim, if you know the macbook with rose gold?
We have the same problem with our Mac how much is the cost to repair?
It is in the video: 2:19
€ 612,26 (at the time, around USD 660)
...but it could be a really different price... It depends on which parts are affected.
my Mac is bugging out thin lines run across the whole screen in various colors and I need help
I swear to god as I was watching this video my screen glitched the hell out I’m on my phone LOOOL the Mac is only a month old I can’t with Apple products
I think you need to take it to the Apple Store - or a repair shop specialised in Macs.
John Nguyen, hey! That was really some luck!!!!
i like your video editing and character. It's quite original for here. Breaks up the monotony of watching the TYPICAL youtubers
Thank you! 😄
my 2015 leaves imprints from the internet all over the screen, weird, screen saver helps, but can't use it all the time. It's like the internet bleeds out all over the screen, and if using multiple aps it gets real bad.
This has happened to my MacBook Air... Can I fix it myself?
I don’t think so...
I have the problem too on the MacBook Pro touchbar

I have a 32 inch msi curved and have this problem only when I start up my pc, within a minute it's fine and has bin like this for months as my cover ran out last year for it, so will just see how it goes I suppose
Hey man, when the new videos gonna come out?
The flickering occurred with me too. And i had to replace the display, it costed me ₹5000. I dont know why did it started. Why the flickering occured?
i have the same problem with my 2011 27 inch imac but it does not happen all the time. it works perfectly then every so often the problem comes. i just turn it off and bingo it works fine.
I’ve got a late 2009 27in. Imac for $175 last year and I love this computer
purchased 2017 MacBook Pro 15" with Touch Bar a week after had to get screen replaced thankfully it was free but then 3 months later had to get it repaired again logic board failed (again was free to get it fixed). I have started noticing that there are dead pixels showing up on the display again and screen is starting to flicker. :(
Oh man... that's terrible!
I love the way you explain things in your videos! 😁
Wow, very kind words 😊 Thank you!
If I have warranty on my Mac would they do it for free
Batool A Of course! Fix it, or replace it... free. That's why warranty is so important! But mine was by far past the warranty period.
Geek Detour thanks I was really stressed because I got this Mac just this year and I have not dropped it or done anything to it.
your standard Apple warranty will expire about a week before it breaks. Unless you have an iPhone 10. Those have already broken days after it was released.
if you have Safeware, ...
I just bought mine and I have the same problem
I really didn't want to buy a new computer just yet ( wanted to wait for the next iMac ) but, if I see this continue...then I gotta do what I gotta do :(
Hey do you not publish videos anymore? : (
Hi Steve! Yeah... time has passed so quickly! My wife and I had a baby girl and... everything else got slowed down. There are several videos in the making - but I couldn't finish them yet.
I really appreciate you for stepping by and checking out if I am still alive, ha ha ha! Lets have a wonderful 2018 - with videos, of course!
Geek Detour ah that's great news. Congrats.
Geek tour why you don’t do RUclips videos ?
Kavidu, But I make RUclips videos!!! 😄 This is a video, on RUclips!!!🤣🤣🤣
2014 MBP is almost “vintage” so they probably want to use all remains parts still left to open espace.
my poor iPhone 5S was fixed by a pixel problem two times and still glitches 😞
time to upgrade that crap
what type of headphones do you use
I use the Audio-Technica ATH-M40x:
- amzn.to/2mYJd4A (Amazon USA),
- amzn.to/2nLigQY (Amazon UK),
- amzn.to/2oKKtF4 (Amazon Germany),
- amzn.to/2on4yFg (Amazon España),
- amzn.to/2nLpJ2b (Amazon France) and
- amzn.to/2nLdeUt (Amazon Italia)
The ATH-M40x is very underrated, an AWESOME Studio Monitor for the price. The ATH-M50x is considerably more expensive and has more bass than a Studio Monitor for video/music mixing should have (in my opinion).
help it happened to me i dont know what to do i dont want to pay
The best thing you can do is, at least, take it to an Apple Store and let them verify what is happening and check how much money they ask for repairing it - you never know: maybe it is cheaper than you imagine, maybe it is a problem they are repairing for free (I am assuming you are out of warranty)... If they ask for something overly expensive, only then you should look for other repair shops.
Same issue on Macbook Pro Retina
mid 2012
Dis u have it fixed and how? Thank you
Did you have it fixed and how?
this only happens to me (MacBook Air 2018) when I try to close a program & it doesn't want to close... so rarely but its happened 2 times now and im scared
DiMenaF hey, use your phone to record what the screen is showing! A $1000? Wow... in which city/Apple Store you took it for evaluation?
I'm having the dame exact problem with my macbook pro 13"
Geek Detour the glitches are visible if i record them using my phone or any other device but if i take a screenshot on my macbook, and open that screenshot on my phone, it doesn't show any of the glitches. is it a display problem?
I am having the same issue on my 2016 MacBook Pro, did you manage to fix it?
Noushad Muhammed did you get yours fixed. I’m having the same issue with the same laptop as you
I was just using mine it completely turned grey ??????
LITERALLY, THE EXACT MAC, SAME AGE, SAME IT WAS GREAT! AND NOW I'M WORKING AT HOME WITH BIG FILES AND it's BEEN GLITCHING.
I'm here for your acting prowess. My mac is just fine.
Ha ha ha, oh boy! Acting prowess - that’s a first! 🤣 Thanks!
My late 11 mbp just started this and now going into repetitive rebooting
Im So Happy That Your GPU Is Passed
I was relieved, actually. If not, it would have cost me twice to fix it.
I'm having the same problem right now!
Oh man... good luck! Is your iMac still under warranty?
It's happening to my macbook air :/
marvelsheaven Did you ever end up fixing it?
@@agnesb4395 mee too i am facing the same in the left side, could please let me know what u did to fix it :(
@@jasemshatee8547 hii. it’s been a really long time hehe sorry. but i haven’t fixed it, my macbook is kind of old and my charger is broken and they are expensive lol so i can’t use it. but i’m probably buying a new one but maybe u can go to a apple store and they can help u solve the problem, that’s the only way i think.
I have no lines but everting is jumping on the screen....help
Oh boy... there is not much you can do besides taking it to Apple (or authorized repair center). I did this video so anyone having the same problem have an idea of what to expect (in my case, a big repair bill). Good luck!
@ Geek Detour - about how much was your repair ?
about $600.00 USA Dollars?
With the new display, as expected, everything is uniform again.
flex did not work.
I looked at the comments but unfortunately screen corrupted.don't give money to the cable in vain
My computer is acting just like this . I don't know what to do. mine MacBook is 2014 they say they can't fix
this is happening to my MacBook Pro and damn let me tell u it has only been a year and a few months, apple please fix this 😶
meera me too!
i am watching your video with my screen flickering lol. exempt its displaying the windows 10 welcome screen on the top half of my screen, int splitters vertical lines... quite weird. no issue on my external screen
I have a screen problem too- weird coloured lines up the top of my screen so I can't access my hotbar
