      @@THEREALSHOWBBQ Agreed. Everyone has a unique palate. Im sure that it was delicious, im not knocking it. Its a thick vegetable soup with heavy meat. I bet its amazing on a cold winter night. Its not a BBQ dish. Not trying to be a RUclips troll. Can we agree that Brunswick stew is unique? Unique to everyone that has tried it, and /or made it? Whether you respond or not, I think we could. Also, can we agree that this is far more reminiscent of vegetable beef soup, minus the beef? Great video BTW. No puns towards you. Have a great 4th!

    Now, is it just folklore or a country legend that Brunswick stew - way, way back in the day, like, in the 19th century, maybe - was originally made with . . . squirrel? Anyone else ever hear this tale, or did somebody somewhere along the way pull my leg? Please do lemme know if you know or have heard anything!

    • @THEREALSHOWBBQ
      @THEREALSHOWBBQ  5 лет назад +1

      As far as when was originally started I'm not sure. Authentic Brunswick stew claims to use game meat such a squirrel, opossum, or rabbit meat and simmers all day to allow the tougher meats to tenderize.

    Warning: Be careful if using organic ground cayenne pepper. It is VERY hot 🥵 Butter, chicken stock, mustard, brown sugar, Apple cider vinegar & liquid smoke all enhance the flavor profile of Brunswick stew. Think of the flavor being a tomato based sweet/sour/spicy/savory BBQ Chicken & Pork stew with vegetables. Also, better to precook the corn and cream in a food processor for the most classic flavor & texture!

      BigMac Mick - Some Brunswick stew recipes call for beef as well. Most BBQ restaurants don’t sell beef in NC, so they just use what they have. Family recipes & church recipes will call for beef. And the recipes get even more different in Virginia & Georgia, who both lay claim to creating his southern dish.
